    Lyrics:
    T´ain´t no big thing
To wait for the bell to ring
    T´ain´t no big thing
    The toll of the bell
    Aggravated - spare for days
I troll downtown the red light place
Jump up bubble up - what´s in store
Love is the drug and I need to score
Showing out, showing out, hit and run
Boy meets girl where beat goes on
Stitched up tight, can´t shake free
Love is the drug, got a hook on me
    Oh oh catch that buzz
Love is the drug i´m thinking of
    Oh oh can´t you see
Love is the drug for me
Late that night I park my car
Stake my place in the singles bar
Face to face, toe to toe
Heart to heart as we hit the floor
    Lumber up, limbo down
The locked embrace, the stumble round
I say go, she say yes
Dim the lights, you can guess the rest
    Oh oh catch that buzz
Love is the drug i´m thinking of
    Oh oh can´t you see
Love is the drug, got a hook in me
    Oh oh catch that buzz
Love is the drug i´m thinking of
    Oh oh can´t you see
Love is the drug for me

When I was having my daily radiation treatments for throat cancer, I hummed this to my self while I was strapped into the mask. Ten years later, I'm alive and well, thanks to my great doctors. But I do believe love was the drug and it will always be my mantra.

Life's a trip. Always old for my age my mom used to drop me off by myself at the Plano skating rink outside of Dallas when I was 7/8 1975/76. They'd play this song, Thin Lizzy Jailbreak, ZZ Top Tush, Dream Weaver, and some funky stuff from Parliament and Hot Chocolate. Disco, the best rocknroll, and the beginning of punk all in the same era. Damn glad to have been a kid in the 70's!

The best, ever, eh? The naysayers have absolutely NO idea. I feel bad for them, honestly. They have no idea how great it really was. All they can do is read about it and hack on it. I’d go back there in one hot second, and even take the angst of being a teenager again if I could do it again. I was 15 in 75.

My wife and I had sang it ' live ' on stage at the event . So much fun!!! What glorious memories!!! We are still going strong after 35 years, although like others, I presume, there have been ' hiccups' along the way . One thing has NEVER changed. So sublime are some melodies that they deny easy explanations.
We are meant to struggle to explain how deeply some songs move us. That's How it feel when we are moved to love something, perhaps even more so with " love is the drug"
You can imagine the struggle Bryan had in composing it.
While we enjoy the finished product we often don't know the background to the minstrel's struggle.

Well, not entirely. For every Roxy Music there was a Minnie Riperton. And don't forget Gilbert O'Sullivan, Terry Jacks, Starland Vocal Band, Paper Lace, etc. Actually we *WOULD* like to forget about them.
Thankfully there was CHOM-FM out of Montreal, which reached all the way into Northern Vermont. There you could hear Sparks, Patti Smith, Ian Dury, David Bowie, T-Rex, and of course, Roxy Music amongst plenty of other better yet lesser known music.

    • @virginiaviola5097
      @virginiaviola5097 Рік тому

@@SenileOtaku Minnie Riperton? No way, absolutely glorious voice. The song might have been a bit corny, but her voice made it something ethereal. Afternoon Delight was a coffee break song, a quick escape from the books to make a drink so as not to miss the next song. And I still know every word to Billy..and I’m 60. Every alternate you listed to the corny stuff is the music that I was actually into, but even the bad stuff was so bad it was good. These days bad music is just bad, and not in a Michael Jackson way.

      @SenileOtaku Рік тому

@@virginiaviola5097 Well, back in high school I tolerated them (far fewer options for alternative music back then, especially in the Northeast Kingdom). In the 80's I picked up on Punk, the 90's was Belgian Techno, and these days it's Vocaloid, Touhou Doujin, Japanese trance/techno, and various music from anime. Doesn't mean I've stopped listening to Roxy Music et al, just an expanded selection now. I'm 63 and always open for what's happening in the alternative/independent scene.

I doubt anyone could have the confidence today to go on stage in the West dressed for higher ideals. Even a pretension of higher ideals. Look at the stunning backup singers. That's vitality!
