5:18 I think what appreciate out of the WW1 Game Series in general is the fact that there’s gotta be this guy: the one first through the breach that gets mowed down so his comrades can get through (hopefully). Everyone’s not a hero armed to the teeth like Battlefield 1. You’ve got your trusty rifle, maybe a grenade, and the clothes on your back just pushing toward the enemy trench. You’ve gotta make that harsh choice to sacrifice yourself to give your guys some momentum on the attack. Despite the extremely low TTK that makes people a lot more cautious in this game, I see teammates become more aggressive when you decide to put yourself in the line of fire. It’s awesome!
You’d think after getting a degree in history I’d look for more ways to blend it with my love for video games. Definitely checking this one out, thanks for the awesome video man!

I disagree on what's keeping Isonzo underrated. It's not Apathy or a lack of interest in Historical games. BF1, Red Dead 2, Paradox's bread and butter games, The Great War day by day. Heck if you get a bit into it most games depicting GWOT are historical being set twenty years ago, which is as far back as the Vietnam games I grew up on. So I don't think it's that. I think it's that the gameplay and flow don't map to modern mechanics. Shooter mechanics have really brought Esports and the spectacle to the forefront; the main drivers of the spectacle are speed, mobility, graphics, readability. Titanfall, Apex, COD are fast paced games that require quick reactions and constant adaptation to a changing environment. Those have also doubled down on movement of each player and each team. Which in turn makes a better and more tense viewing experience. Now Isonzo can do the reactions and graphics; as can it's cousins Verdun, Tannenberg, Hell let loose, Enlisted, Post Scriptum. Also worth mentioning it's brothers from other mothers Insurgency Sandstorm and Squad. While the time periods are different, the viewing experience and general rules of play are very similar. Where we reach our first problem, Isonzo has to be a larger game it can't be a tight 5v5 E sport shooter it wouldn't capture the feel, and casting an Isonzo match where there's going to be ~20 people on each time you're trying to get viewers to root for it's going to be a nightmare. This is the real bit holding it back; for Cod, Halo, Apex, Siege you can form a team of just your mates. If your friend group can fill a Isonzo team you are very blessed especially if they can all play at the same time. So i think it has more to do with Esports, and Isonzo's mechanics not being well mapped to the gaming audience of today.
