Isonzo Is STILL An UNDERRATED Gem! | Isonzo, Authentic WW1 FPS

- The WW1 Game Series is known for producing QUALITY, yet underrated authentic WW1 shooter experiences. Although, there is a multitude of factors behind why a game could "fall off", the reason I think Isonzo has been unable to retain much of its initial player-base has a lot to do with the societally endemic apathy felt towards history as a whole..... but that's just my opinion.

Making this video was an absolute blast! But unfortunately the footage is a tad grainy which I’m very disappointed by.
But, with some help, I’ve re-optimized my recording software so that, hopefully, this does not occur anymore in any future videos. Thank you guys so much for watching, and despite the inconvenience, I hope you enjoyed anyhow! 🙏🏾
I want them to update and merge all their WW1 FPSs in to one game.
1 of the devs was talking about it on our server - there are technical reasons (the game engine?) why this will probably never be possible 😢
and make an option for xbox one and ps4 or old gen users to optimise it for better gameplay
That would be the coolest game of all time
@SirAroace @nozzatron01gaming11 this needs to happen
I’ve heard they can’t do this because of game differences but they could at least have something like the battle field menu screen with the other games on the left bar and you can choose between them
90% of Italians quit the assault right before they're going to take Isonzo
No, that’s just Luigi Cadorna pulling yet another Cadorna-ism.
Technically & mathematically it would be 91%
I do agree with you that the lack of players on more historical accurate games is due to a lack interest and integrity of history. That’s also just me, but I find it disappointing.
Always love to see isonzo being mentioned somewhere, great video!
Downloaded this off GamePass and absolutely love Isonzo. I couldnt stop playing and got up to level 50 in a weekend lol.
damn I thought I played a lot getting to level 25
Based
Finally a good vid for people that don’t play this game to watch so u can convince them to get it
Honestly you guys showed a lot of dynamics and allowed the game's character to shine. Made me want to get after it and put some extra love into this title
Thank you very much man! And yes, you absolutely should get the game. It’s only receiving more content as time progresses.
@TheUberMarshalYT I had the game for a whle and struggled with framrates (PS4) but I decided to settle down and try it more. It's a unique experience for sure. I'll be getting a PS5 very soon so I'm looking to play it on next gen along with Hell Let Loose
I played this from gamepass. Holy shit
same....good thing I did
@@the_mobrulez384 it’s great
The game now has 11.000 active people online right now on Xbox. The increase may be due to it's recent addition to Xbox game pass.
Only stated playing this game 2 days ago, I’m obsessed, everything you said is perfect, such a shame it’s not a popular player base game 😢
All 3 games are fun and different and I rotate through them all
I love Isonzo so much, the music and sounds are insane. Also great video man! Also, I confess, I'm sometimes a filthy ice axe player.
Just bought this a few days ago. I’m really excited to play it. Haven’t had the chance yet but I love the history of WW1 in particular and like BF1 in the same timeframe, I still play that game right now.
Thanks for the vid
thats what i also thought about marmolada when i first played it... absolutely insane to fight in a place like that. :D
5:18 I think what appreciate out of the WW1 Game Series in general is the fact that there’s gotta be this guy: the one first through the breach that gets mowed down so his comrades can get through (hopefully). Everyone’s not a hero armed to the teeth like Battlefield 1. You’ve got your trusty rifle, maybe a grenade, and the clothes on your back just pushing toward the enemy trench. You’ve gotta make that harsh choice to sacrifice yourself to give your guys some momentum on the attack. Despite the extremely low TTK that makes people a lot more cautious in this game, I see teammates become more aggressive when you decide to put yourself in the line of fire. It’s awesome!
Face shot in the crater was brutal.
Amazing video, deserves more views
You’d think after getting a degree in history I’d look for more ways to blend it with my love for video games. Definitely checking this one out, thanks for the awesome video man!
Just started playing and it is simply amazing. Like you and many others I'm sure agree, this game deserves so many more players!
I remember randomly being on your team on arma reforger a while ago was hilarious haha (in a good way), straight away people calling you the voice actor
Haha! Pleasant coincidence. It’s unfortunate though, I’ve begun to talk less and less in Reforger games on account of how wearing on my patience the playerbase can be.
Love it when small youtubers making quality shit, subscribed!
It’s cuz we have a million ww1 and 2 based games. Most of them are fun as hell so all the people who enjoy that genre are spread out between a lot of games. The only way to fix this would be if maybe some of this developers that make these games start joining hands to combine player bases
Bro got the GVMERS voice 😮
it’s popping so much now as soon as they added it to gamepass servers went up a bunch
fire video brug keep it up
So glad It just came to game pass, so many more players
LOVE THIS GAME A WHOLE BUNCH I TELL YOU WHAT
Love the video, instant sub. Would love to see more Insonzo
That might just happen. The game’s devs have just recently, revealed the “Ascent” gamemode due to release soon. I might just have to cover that, we’ll see.
I love Isonzo. But most of all, I love its maps. Some reminded me of the original Insurgency.
PS I bought it for 3 bucks, but it delivered like 300
the game from today will be as it should be, it enters the X box Ultimate and there will be many new players and I am one of them, I greet you and I wish you a good game
Never heard of it til gamepass Yeo this game is crazy
Your channel and the game deserve more attention 😌...
Unfortunately, 80% of the players play Only the Most sponsored games
I really appreciate that sir! Only more videos to come, and hopefully at least a slight increase in playerbase on Isonzo as a result of this video. 😅
@@TheUberMarshalYT you deserve (credits Also to "Pax": Great squad😂)... devs are preparing a new game Mode and new maps.. Hope they'll increase the players base.. however, in full lobby, this game is already insanely fun 😎
I disagree on what's keeping Isonzo underrated. It's not Apathy or a lack of interest in Historical games. BF1, Red Dead 2, Paradox's bread and butter games, The Great War day by day. Heck if you get a bit into it most games depicting GWOT are historical being set twenty years ago, which is as far back as the Vietnam games I grew up on. So I don't think it's that.
I think it's that the gameplay and flow don't map to modern mechanics. Shooter mechanics have really brought Esports and the spectacle to the forefront; the main drivers of the spectacle are speed, mobility, graphics, readability. Titanfall, Apex, COD are fast paced games that require quick reactions and constant adaptation to a changing environment. Those have also doubled down on movement of each player and each team. Which in turn makes a better and more tense viewing experience.
Now Isonzo can do the reactions and graphics; as can it's cousins Verdun, Tannenberg, Hell let loose, Enlisted, Post Scriptum. Also worth mentioning it's brothers from other mothers Insurgency Sandstorm and Squad. While the time periods are different, the viewing experience and general rules of play are very similar.
Where we reach our first problem, Isonzo has to be a larger game it can't be a tight 5v5 E sport shooter it wouldn't capture the feel, and casting an Isonzo match where there's going to be ~20 people on each time you're trying to get viewers to root for it's going to be a nightmare. This is the real bit holding it back; for Cod, Halo, Apex, Siege you can form a team of just your mates. If your friend group can fill a Isonzo team you are very blessed especially if they can all play at the same time.
So i think it has more to do with Esports, and Isonzo's mechanics not being well mapped to the gaming audience of today. Perhaps had it been released ten years ago just before the centennial, expectations would be a lot closer to what Isonzo can deliver on. This would put it just after Project Reality 1.0 is released but just before Titanfall 2.
THOUGH haven't played Isonzo specifically.
Ah, I see now. I appreciate you fleshing out your thoughts 🫡
@@TheUberMarshalYT Yeah I wrote my first comment a bit early. But it bought time to flesh out my thoughts a bit.
Games like Isonzo have been left behind by trends. Like I said had it been released 2014, much more receptive gaming market for it, beaten a lot of its competitors to market as well. While also being in time for the centenial of the battle it depicts.
Just played this on gamepass today its fun af, got a triple kill w a grenade and so many one shot kills.
I've found the gunplay far more enjoyable than any other modern titles because of the types of weapons used and the audio quality of the weapons adds to the feel of the whole pizza too. Mama Mia, what a game
You and me both brother. I just can’t wait for Gallipoli!!!
Love this game despite the small player base.
Great gameplay! If you got twitch would defo watch!
I do not, but I appreciate the compliment 🫡
@@TheUberMarshalYTOh apologies for the confusion! I was just wondering if you streamed on twitch!
Great video, love this game. Just needs some love/more players. Maybe another free weekend if the devs would consider it. Cheers!
I think a free weekend *could* make all the difference, it just needs proper advertisement!
Kar98 seems mad overpowered
I agree
Love this it's brilliant one of the best fps out there so can't wait for there next instalment where ever that may be
The only thing I dislike about isonzo is the gas because the model looks like no one cared and made something but like another game the SAME studio made was verdun which had cool looking gas I mean it’s still a good game but eh i don’t care that much
This reminds me a lot of BF1 which I loved to play back in the day, although Isonzo seems to be a lot more realistic and cinematic imo.
Good vid, keep it up brother.🫡
Battlefield 1 will forever hold the distinction of being my favorite and most-played Battlefield in the series. The WW1 Game Series however, holds my heart for my favorite historical game series ever. ❤
I wouldnt Say Gem, it had its moment but is incredible repetative. Verdun I think was the best but is kinda outdated now. Nobody really played tannenberg. I liked the Ascent Event tho so creds to the devs for adding this. I think if the servers were bigger and incorprated more team base it would be good
That is an interesting opinion
I don't think that apathy towards history is the problem. Though that may be a slight issue for younger players, I don't believe older players would see it that way.
I believe the main issue is the graphics being too clean and rather pretty; basically cartoonish. The colors are too vivid where they need to be more earthy and dull.
It needs to be grittier and nasty looking.
Agreed, only certain people respect history and actually know a good amount about it. People rather play cod instead of enjoy old school style games with way better graphics. Battlefield V is decent world war game but isonzo and hell let loose are so much more enjoyable.
Completely different styles of shooters. Makes no sense comparing Battlefield to games like Hell Let Loose.
That’s like comparing Doom to Halo.
@@TheGreatestJediOfAllTime not comparing them just talking about which war games I like
It kinda reminds me of insurgency sandstorm as far as the gameplay goes
great video mate
14:27 Savoia!!!
I dont think it the uninterest in history but its the poplularity and fun of Battlefield 1
Regardless WW1 game series is still 10x better and more Historical accurate than BF1 i hope for Galipoli (Middle eastern front) in the future
So, in regard to BF1, I feel that the success of that game had *far* more to do with the fact that, not only was it a new Battlefield title (at that time), but it also tapped into a previously & relatively unexplored era in War-history, thus there was an acutely high level of curiosity, rather than any preexisting mainstream affinity towards history of WW1 to begin with.
Just the same with WW2 games in that, you typically don’t see the average WW2 fps gamer playing those games for the sole appreciation of historical authenticity and context, rather they simply enjoy the era for its aesthetic and the immersion of “fighting” in the greatest/biggest war to have ever been fought. Though I’m sure that there is a minority of those that do in fact, play these games for their appreciation of history.
Unfortunately though, nowadays the biggest, most common emotion you will see from the average person towards history, is apathy.
I've only played Verdun, but what I didn't enjoy was the quality of the game. It felt like a poor man's Red Orchestra 2. Gameplay and animations were not of the same quality and the maps were not enjoyable. The trenches of WW1 in Verdun do not, in my opinion, make for good gameplay in a shooter where you die from 1 shot. Didn't bother with Tannenberg because it seemed odd that they split the playerbase. Isonzo looks pretty great from the maps. I might dive in and give the series a shot. Ideally, they should've combined all fronts into one game, which would make for great variety, and they could pull in what they have learned over the years.
2:58 people would rather play warzone with Niki minaje unfortunately 😢
I physically recoiled when I saw Nicki in one of the MWIII trailers.
The only reason it is unknown is because it’s forgotten just as much as the Italian front as a whole. Forget Korea being known as the forgotten war
Got 6 hours on the game now and I have a blast almost every match 🤙 wish I found the game sooner. Also on Xbox servers there are usually 10 or more full servers so that’s nice
Such a shame that players don't enjoy WW1 thematic games
I tried playing this the other day and the iron sight is honestly so small I cant even see
the "timer" isnt the amount of seconds you have its a counter for how many people you have
Great game!
more hoi4 gamers should jump on this game. Its literally way better than the great war redux.
Total different genres except war
Way to battlefield with the numbers and hit registration. Ruins the immersion for me but also disadvantage as playing dead becomes a option
All 3 must be in a single wombo combo, and one in Turkey with english and russians uwu
this why i don't buy fps's becuase of guys like you my reaction times could never
What?
@@TheUberMarshalYT he prolly wanted to point out that he is slow and not as fast as you in these close fights. But one thing he doesn't know about isonzo, and it's that you dont have to be the best shooter to contribute your team winning. There are lots of different approaches because of all the classes you can pick, you can even be the best player on the team without a single kill
@@nathanukalovic3872 Wow! Reading his comment with this clarification makes so much sense now 😂
Thank you.
I like history, especially the wars but I don't play these games, they are simply not fun for me. I played maybe 3 online games and it was nothing but aerial spamm and arty spamm on the points for 40 mins in my games. And offline the bots in Isonzo cheat too much. Which is why I will refrain from ever getting another one of these games.
Edit: thanks for interacting, Uber, even if my comment wasn't that positive about a game you enjoy. I think this game is better with friends but alas, like you said at the start, there is apathy towards the subject these games draw inspiration from i'm stuck playing this solo. I keep coming back to it for the historical accuracy but I can't finish a game, my patience runs too thin. Subbed, I'll just watch you play.
do you guys use discord for voice?
or is there a toggle/ptt option in isonzo? I havent figured out how to change that if its the case
thanks!
@@nicholassheuerman4589 discord sir.
Is there a discord for isonzo ?
Yes. Check out the official WW1 Game Series YT channel.
How do you move so fcking fast lol
Bugle and and Probably had the mountaineer speed perk. It's amazing
Games better in lower fov
Odd I had WW1 shooter down as oversaturated.
Verdun, Tanneberg, Isonzo; far too niche a space for three and all needing to compare to a AAA game like BF1 is not an easy thing.
This is a very interesting perspective on the coverage of WW1, within the video game medium, and I appreciate the comment.
Although I would agree that WW1 is a niche subject, as stated in the video, I have to entirely disagree with the notion that due to that same obscurity, there is no room for additional exposure/coverage. If we’re talking about the “oversaturation” of a particular era of history in gaming, I’d have to immediately gesture to the 1st place holder of that title: WW2.
@@TheUberMarshalYT Why thank you; I don't mean to dismiss your perspective.
WW2 has a lot more scope for narratives and environments. Plus the factions aren't going to seem that different in terms of weapons and tactics in MP.
While WW2 offers more playstyles and stories.
Pacific Fighter Ace, Soviet Tanker, U-Boat captain, French Partisan. It's a setting that touches on a lot more mechanics and a broader scope for narratives and nations.
WW1 is dominated by stalemate and trenches. It's a more restrictive canvass. Not impossible but restrictive.
It's also that it's a niche with intense compeitition. Alongside the other WW1 games, you have to compete with Arma 2/3/Reforger, Post Scriptum, Hell Let loose, Squad, Enlisted, Insurgency Sandstorm, Rising Storm. These games are going to attract the same kind of players that want to play Isonzo.
Sorry gaming trends is kinda my jam.
I can’t get past the movement, why does it look like VR? it looks goofy AF
good game huh
I love a still buggy game with an awful unlocking system and terrible visual effects!
You are American though so your idea of history is corrupt by poor education.
And also the fact that American schools meatride American history and never talk about anything else besides it, that’s why we only know WWI as “that war with trenches in it”
