  • Lets try some calligraphy and review this calligraphy pen set from Mont Marte. Now this was definitely an experience trying calligraphy for the first time, I think I went into this thinking I knew what calligraphy was, and turns out it was something quite technical and different! I'm not entirely sure calligraphy is the right kind of craft for me, however I did think the calligraphy pet set that I had bought was really decent and good value. If you're thinking about getting into calligraphy for the first time then I'd highly recommend this calligraphy pen set from Mont Marte. But feel free to let me know what your thoughts were on calligraphy, and if you have any other crafts or arty stuff you want to see of the channel, then make sure to leave your suggestions in the comments below!

    Oof, I've tried calligraphy so many times, failing spectacularly each time, lol! I'm from the era where lefties were still taught to write right-handed (you know, like "normal" people), so I figured that screwed me up pretty good. I'd try calligraphy every so often hoping it would at least make my penmanship better overall, but I don't think it ever did. Like you said, my lettering always looked like a forced version of what someone else did. As for rules in art, I completely agree. I will say, tho, that it seems some folks are almost too intimidated by something to just try it, so having a set of rules or steps for starting can help, but after that, experimentation is so much more fun. But that's just me 🙄😁 Absolutely loving the luscious, long locks!! You enjoying the longer hair (have you had long hair before?)? Thanks for another fantastic video!!!

    • @AnthonyCrammen
      @AnthonyCrammen  Рік тому +3

      Haha 😆😆 Ah I didn't realise you were left handed! And for sure! I think as a guide it's helpful but then definitely experiment! Oh why thank you! I had long hair when I was a young kid but not since, I kinda like it, although it's getting harder to figure out a style I like lol. Ah and no problem at all! ☺️☺️

    Your freestyle was great! So happy to see other lefties in the comments. We were ALL hopelessly, perpetually smeared with ink and pencil in school... "Penmanship lessons" were a nightmare. We had to hold our hand in such a contorted way that it is a miracle that anyone can read our Picassoesque handwriting... HAPPY CHRISTMAS Anthony.♥

    That little outro was different than normal. Usually when you feel that you messed up or weren't good/skillful with the craft you tried (or even mad at it like the miniatures I peer pressured you into j/k), the outro is usually short and to the point.
    This one however, I think you were just shocked that you weren't as bad as you thought you'd be, and it made you uncomfy LOL
    I think you did great, and a little bit of practice you'd do really well at it!
    *Suggestion:*If you wanted to try something fun, you could make your own handwriting into a font for anyone to use! I could see you making all sorts of styled alphabets! There's quite a few sites online that allows you to do that, might be good for a laugh
    *Other Suggestions:* Modern Hand-Lettering (Calligraphy-adjacent), Subversive Crossstitch, Obsidian Knapping, Medieval Coil Candle Making, Stuffed Animals, and what I do, Wire-wrapped jewelry.
    And that's off the top of my head!
    I'm also going to send this video to my brother, he's been doing calligraphy since his pre-teens. (He also does mathematical/science/religious scroll recreations, one of which is in a gallery.) He's ridiculously good at it. He also made his own electric Cello!
    I'm sorry I wrote this novel.

      Oh yeah decided to spice things up a bit 😅😅 Haha, I think I just wasn't expecting it to be as technical for some reason, I also didn't expect so many rules 🤣🤣 Oh I'll keep them in mind! Ah and that's so cool! I'm sure he'd cringe at my attempt! 😆😆

    I would love a set like that Ant! I have always wanted to learn calligraphy, as I want to be able to create beautiful paintings with calligraphy quotes in the centre, or make some cards for various occasions and situated on them.
    One of my brothers can do calligraphy and he's always being asked to write out mementos for weddings etc, and service cards for weddings, christenings, and sometimes funerals too. People ask him to do calligraphy around pictures of their deceased pets as well. I am determined to learn how to do calligraphy. Where did you get that set Ant, coz I really want one. It looks right up my alley. I hope you had a peaceful, happy, relaxed kind of Christmas. Have a great week Ant and God bless you and your loved ones!

    The two things I remember about calligraphy from my art class are 1. you don’t move your wrist, you move your entire forearm and hold your arm steady and 2. you never push the pen up the paper you only draw downward strokes.
    As an art form, it’s not for everyone, but that doesn’t mean you can’t use the tools however you like to make your own artistic creations .

    I do practices to eventually adopt into freestyle graffiti lettering. What helps is to use blank paper (no gridlines) to get rid of any sense of rigidity :)

    Hey Ant, thanks for trying out the calligraphy set!! 😄😄 I think the technical rules don't quite suit your free-spirited style of art - and I can sympathize! We were made to do calligraphy at school for a whole term and I didn't get on with all the rules either 😝😝 Fortunately, these days you can get a calligraphy font for the computer which takes all the pain out of it 😂😂 I hope you had a fab Christmas (with copious amounts of chocolate orange) - and love the new intro titles!! 😄😄

    Been there, done that, and I really suck at it. I don't fallow rules very good and.....45 degrees what's up with that. love following you. Find something fun to do and MAYBE we can both be good at it. I always try new things at least once Happy holidays

  • @darialacy2151
    @darialacy2151 Рік тому +1

    The 45 degree angle refers to the flat edge of the nib, not the pen itself. Think of top to bottom of the paper as your line and keep the nip always at the angle no matter the direction you go in the letter... That forms the wide and narrow parts if the lines... Wide when about 45 degrees to straight up and down, and thin when the side of the nib follows the direction. I do calligraphy occasionally, but not enough to be good at it. 😃

      @AnthonyCrammen  Рік тому

    You did great Ant! Lovely descenders on the G and Y. I like using the old dip pens and cut feather quills. It does take a bit of practice but there is nothing like a medieval bit of script to accompany some other styles of art. You have a lot of leftie subscribers lol (I’m a rightie) 😛🪶
