    I’ve learned more in 17 mins than I did in the past 5 years. The penny has dropped about how to neaten up my necks and you’ve also saved me a lot time and aggravation. This was the highlight of the week.

    When I first started watching this video, I thought you were going to be doing the scarf joint in one cut, such as if you were using one long board that would end up being both the neck and headstock. While watching you make the jig, I thought “there’s no way he is going to have enough clearance in the back of that chop saw to stick a board through there past the fence”. But when I saw you use two separate pieces of wood, that makes sense and honestly, I’d never even considered that myself. It almost makes it a little easier since you won’t have to glue “ears” onto the sides of the headstock in order to make it wider than the neck. Nice video and great jig! Simple and effective.

      Yeah, it took me a minute to figure you do not use the cut off parts. So there's a couple inches you discard but can cut off a new four inch piece with the 15 degree cut on it to use as the headstock. Nice!

    Mucho thanks for this one. This is much easier than using my table saw and jig. I'm trying to downsize and this video came at a perfect time!

    Thanks Paul, your scarf joint cutting jig video was super helpful, such a great time saver. I’m am an absolute beginner and about to start on my very first cigar box guitar build. As you said, this is one of the hardest jobs to do, along with positioning the frets. This way is much easier, thank you. I will take a look at some of your other videos to see what method you use. All the best from down under 👍

    Thank you very much for this scarf joint cutting jig video. I have that type of chop saw but I didn't know how to use it to cut scarf joint nor I have a band saw. IIm building electric guitar although the neck blank is wider than a cigar box headstock but the principle is still the same. Thank you very much.

    Holy cow, this is the oldest vid of yours Ive seen this far .....its amazing how that aging thing seems to start happening all at once huh? Im just kidding but i know something of it even though of course its true about it being a state of mind, aside from damn knees and frickin things like that. Have a great weekend!!

    I made one like that but with one angle at each end. One for the headstock and one for the heel. Come to think of it, I think this video inspired it.

    The only thing I did to improve in your design for myself was I put a back brace using a scrap piece 1 x2 that fits up against the steel saw brace and atteched from the bottom of the jig perpendicular to your "wood stop" I use a few extra wood clamps to help hold the jig as solidly as possible for cutting. Simple add on but really helps hold the jig steady.
    Thanks for the idea Ken, good job

    • @fokker313
      @fokker313 3 роки тому

      @@ThePavit52 sorry. Just saw this, my improvement was an addition back brace that runs perpendicular to the actual jig, your particular saw might not have a metal wing, although both of mine do, to support the jig and keep it square to the chop blade. Very simple, but does help, built over 400 guitars using this type of jig and works perfectly, good luck!

    I like to make Scarf Joints on a band saw. For a 15° Scarf joint, measure out the angle cuts at 3 1/2 ". A 12° scarf joint measures out at 4 1/2" point to point. Have fun with your band saw. Just don't cut off your fingers. 🎸

    Thank you for a very informative video,,,,,I have a question,,,,if the thickness of the board you use is 3/4 inch thick,,,,do you have to make the boards thinner to accommodate for the length of the tuner?,,,,,,for example would you have to remove about 1/4 inch thickness and then make the cut for the headstock,,,,,,,thanks,,

    The problem it's to glue that type of cuts without slipping. Solves only the cutting part of the scarf joint.

    What kind of blade is on your chop saw. Like is it a fine tooth.

  • @MrLyge

    I just finished making one of these. Thanks so much for your videos, and instruction. God bless Bro.
    EDIT: Quick question though...do you still thin your head stock like you would without a scarf joint? If not, how thick is your head stock and what tuners do you use. Mine tuners only seem to stick up by a little over a quarter inch. Thanks very much.

    Ughhhh....Chop saw is for metal cutting. What you have is a miter saw, made for wood. There IS a big difference.

    • @gtrboy77
      @gtrboy77 4 роки тому +2

      Chop saw is slang woodworking speak for miter saw. Same thing.
