Actually, here in Germany they use the wood chips for paper and that composite IKEA style furniture. I'm not a particular fan of it, but the trees aren't wasted like you assume.

If this was intended for fuel, then with woodchips it can either be pelleted for a pellet stove, which gets more efficient use per kg of wood than just burning logs. Or it can mixed with other plant material and pressed into briquettes and burned, that way the wood is consumed at a slower rate and the leaves, twigs, undergrowth, even grass and hedge clippings, can all be used to create a useful and carbon neutral source of fuel.

Никто, ничего не уничтожает. Наоборот проводят санитарные рубки, убирают упавшие деревья. Главное в результате сжигания этой щепы не нарушается баланс углекислого газа в атмосфере. При сжигании ископаемых угля, нефти, газа ... содержание парниковых газов растет, а здесь нет.

It is possible that those trees were diseased and could not be used. Otherwise, it would have made sense for them to use the wood for some other purpose instead of chipping it all up.

Trails West wood chips, mulch , maybe it was processed and made in to some kind of special fire wood? you never know what they do with the stuff that comes out.

Trails West Given this looks like it was done on private property i'm more than willing to bet those chips were then pelleted for a pellet stove. Several of my family and friends have moved over to pellet stoves instead of burning our yearly timber. We get more heat out of the available thermal mass and its just in general more efficient. Not to mention infinitely cleaner (and easier on the back). If you have ever felled and split a seasons worth of wood you'll know!
