      I have another recommendation. If it is hot outside first press the button while the bottle is upright. The inside might be under pressure!
      It happened to me one time that alcohol was shooting out both sides.

    That shaking after the filling the burner is the same action men do after filling the gas tank--casually carried over from the potty training days, and practiced many, many times in the boys' bathrooms.

    Good vid Paul, I've never had any problems carrying my meths in old nail polish remover bottles that the Mrs bins. No chance of leakage plus knowing it's held remover you know there's no chance of meths corroding the plastic. The only downside I guess is the amount I can carry...Never ran out luckily
    Enjoyed your vid mate
    Take care

    To prevent the small dribble of fuel press open valve when upright to drain small amount of fuel trapped in valve before screwing tight.

    I use these for long term bulk storage, but never in the field. If you forget to screw down the locking nut, you are gonna have a bad time with fuel leaking all over your pack. I don't do alcohol stoves much anymore because they have limited use on long trips (gotta cary too much fuel) but when I do, it's always in a bottle with a top that is obviously closed or obviously open, with little chance of it changing that state in my pack. These bottles don't do it for me in the field.

    I'm sure it was this video where you talked about glugging when pouring meths into the bottles.
    In my feral youth as an apprentice, wobbling about on a step ladder trying to pour 20 litre bottles of anti freeze into a cooler.... (The ones with a handle and the opening on the top, adjacent to each other) My boss, who was watching me piss anti freeze all over the machine and floor said that "you should keep the mouth of the bottle at the highest point for air intake and you can slowly revolve it round as the liquid empties."
    So if you started pouring with a full bottle the handle is low and the mouth is high.
    Works with the 5 litre meths bottles as well.(and not so heavy) Almost perfect pour every time without a funnel.
    Love the videos. The only thing I can think of to make them even better would (and I would really appreciate it) be if you were to also play the jungle music theme tune at the end of your videos as well.
    Fantastic.

    👍 .. yep, those bottles are good .. I've got the 500ml size.
    One thing though, the threads on both the bottle and top are plastic. If one is careless enough, it is possible to 'cross-thread' them, which creates its own set of problems.
    Refilling a Burner which has run dry. With any Spirit Burner, I keep a wet folded cotton face cloth handy which I put over the top of the burner. This ensures that the Flame is definitely out and cools the burner down sufficiently to allow manual handling and a safe refill. The cloth (aka 'jammer lappie' / 'sorry rag') has other uses .. cleaning spillages .. wiping hands / surfaces .. handling hot items .. etc, etc.
    Take care ..

    Great video! Have you tried using isopropyl alcohol in the trangia?

    • @dennisyoung4631
      @dennisyoung4631 2 роки тому +2

      99% isopropyl alcohol might burn hot, but it’s going to put a *lot* of black messy stuff on your pots.
      I’ve found that mine wants at least 50% methanol in the fuel to not make a big black mess! Isopropyl alcohol would be a lot worse than “green” denatured alcohol, which I have tried. It gave a bigger fire, but the black mess it left on my pot was *awful!*

    • @maskddingo1779

    Nice video, thanks. I am having trouble getting the top off when refilling. Seems stuck. A mate had the same problem, and used too much force to unscrew the top and broke the nozzles off. Any ideas to make it easier to unscrew?

    • @PaulBissekerBushcraft
      @PaulBissekerBushcraft  Рік тому

      Dont tighten it too much. Thats i can say. Thanks for watching.

    • @arthurrsaker8893
      @arthurrsaker8893 Рік тому

      I had the same problem with the screw on top. Eventually freed it by holding the top quite firmly in the wooden jaws of a Black and Decker Workmate clone and a strap wrench around the stove body/reservoir. When freed off I applied a good smear of vaseline to the threads and now I carefully replace the top finger tight then ease it back a little. It remains safely in place ready for its next use.
      Prior to this I empty as much fuel as I can, then prop the stove at an angle and use a small olastic syringe obtainable from a pharmacy to draw up as much of the remaining fuel as I can and return it to the fuel bottle. Any remaining amount is so miniscule that a couple of minutes burn will eliminate it.
      The syringe is handy for achieving a safe spill-free refuelling as it allows fine control of the filling process.

      I have one that has been filled for over 8 years. The contents still burns and nothing leaked. They are very solid and durable. This comes at the price of extra weight. I use them for storage, not in the field. I don't like these for in the field because too much can go (and has gone) wrong with not securing the locking nut or it backing off in a pack over time.

    Where are you? sounds like a freeway next door. I also like the ring tone on your cell phone, nice to be popular and getting messages.
    I am always confused when people say "mill"? what does that mean? mil in English means thousands of an inch?
    is this the length of the large bottle? you say 1000 mils, must by 1 inch long 2.54cm. Looks a bit longer than that 🙂

    • @PaulBissekerBushcraft
      @PaulBissekerBushcraft  8 місяців тому

      When i say mill its short for milliliters or millimeters. The metric system. Like spanners in the US 12 mill spanner "Wrench" So in this case Milliliters. 1000 = 1 Litre. Yes i was near a busy road.

    If you don't shake it and dry it then you will get drips. Buy cheap buy twice.

      I have found since, that if you hold it upright and press the button down the fluid will go back into the bottle and it won't leak afterwards. There is a small amount in the press top mechanism. That was the problem :)

      You can fill the trangia and take it with you. It'll be the smallest option so it's arguably better for bushcraft. Less weight, less space
