I tend to agree with you. I read my last by her b/c of just the ridiculous plot and the reactions of characters within it. I honestly don't think you can crank out novels with such speed that are of any real quality. Once, maybe two books a year. That's about the speed of most authors who are enduring in suspense/mystery.
Male here. I found this book in my sister's room and decided to read it while my power was out and I actually quite enjoyed it. I never read and the Teacher was a pleasant surprise. I found myself liking Eve great deal. My assessment is that Eve is supposed to be a terrible person with a lot of redeeming qualities. I found her fascination with shoes kind of cute, but at a certain point I tuned those parts out. Shoes are supposed to be a symbol of happiness in her loveless marriage and I think it makes sense. Also, Eve's eccentric internal monologue had me laughing out loud multiple times. "Boobalicious" and her comments about Lotus's cringy make-up are stand out moments. All things said, Eve is pretty unsympathetic especially given that she was willing to extort Nate in exchange for her silence so the fact that she was in an inappropriate relationship with Hudson didn't bother me at all. I actually think that twist serves the story pretty well considering it's another example of Hudson being willing to keep dark secrets. I've read The Teacher, Never Lie and The Inmate and of those three, this one's my favorite with Never Lie not too far behind.
Do You Remember? was one of my favorite books she's written. Spoilers: So at the end I was so confused because at one point Jay gets a call from his "wife" and has a new baby from what Eve says. @@chosen.loved.forgiven Sadly, many people who were abused/groomed, often become abusers/groomers themselves. Eve kept talking about how wrong it was that Nate was with Addie, so why didn't she realize what SHE was doing was also wrong?
NO, NO, AND NO!!!! It was like you read my mind! Plus I am a teacher and so is my husband. This brings the ick factor way up. Every male teacher I have ever known has been taught to NEVER be in a room with a girl alone, you are supposed to steer her to the door and finish your convo in the hall. I too had the same question about Art Tuttle and the shoes, wow they drove me crazy!!! The shoes that she was buying were not the kind that you would buy in the mall, or you would ever buy on a teacher's salary. Maybe my review is stupid as I know that the role of teachers needs to be researched better. I was left with a slew of questions. If you want to read a book about this very disturbing subject pick up My Dark Vanessa.
YES! I am a teacher and shoe maven, and there's no way she could afford those name brands on two teacher's salaries. I happen to have a few pairs of high-end shoes (most bought on sale), that I could only afford because I used to make A LOT more money in my previous job, and my husband has a well-paying job. I wear heels to school almost every day, but I would never wear stilettos or high-end shoes. That's just stupid. And no, they would never be sold at a mall! Come on!
The book was really ridiculous lol but it was like a train wreck you can't look away from. It kept me turning the pages I gave it 4 stars. She's more of a miss then hit for me I have only liked The Housemaid and this one.
Spoiler Observation: I found it a bit annoying that the storyline with the fired teacher, Art, was never resolved or explained. I find only 2 possible explanations as to why it was in the story 1) To made us suspicious of Addie i.e. Art's strong warning for Eve to stay away from Addie or 2) We haven't seen the last of Addie, prepare for a sequel!😂😂😂
I kept hearing so many good things about her books & found this audiobook on Libby ready to borrow. I wasn't wowed & guessed All the reveals minus that last 2 in the epilogue🤦🏾♀️ I'm gonna try one more of her books & if it's just meh I'm done!!!
I share your thoughts and opinions on her writing style 😂I thought this one day when reading her ‘Housemaid’ series. But I like the stories, I think they’re unique and interesting. I try to think of them as if they were made into Netflix shows (which tend to have long drawn out episodes).
The previous teacher quit because it looked bad. Not because something happened but because there was gossip going around. He was taking her in and letting her have dinner at his house...... And Addie kind of became attached....
SPOLIER thanks for revealing the last twist, I didn’t put it together or missed it or just gave up with this book. It was predictable and boring, but appreciate it was an easy read.
Agreed. I just finished The Teacher and boy had I fun. The last two plot twists in that book had my jaw dropped on the floor. To me, personally, it's super easy and quick reads and she knows how to entertain . I love her books. But everything is in the eye of the beholder.
I had been on the waiting list for this book at the library and finally read it last week. I feel the same way about this book - the first half was just so cliché and the second half went overboard trying to be original and shocking. This was my first book from this author and I was wondering after finishing this book if I should give a second book a try before making up my mind about her work, but now I'm really hesitant to do so. What I find interesting is that I get the feeling that people equal "not being able to put a book down" to enjoying a book. Which I come to realize is not the same thing. A good book will keep you engaged the whole time. A bad book propels you forward by not giving anything of substance or revealing much about the story and you keep turning pages hoping to finally gain understanding on what the heck is going on. Two examples of such books I've read this year Expiration Dates (Rebecca Serie) and Bad Summer People (Emma Rosenblum). Read in a couple of days, and did not find any payoff in finding out how the story ends. SPOILERS: I feel the story could have been more interesting if the conflict had been set between Eve and Addie. The second it got moved to the relationship the student had with the male teacher, I thought it was just lazy storytelling. When the weird things started happening inside the house, I wondered if they were going to bring the wife back from the dead but thought this would not be very original - and yet... You had to suspend your disbelief quite a bit with that part - she survived being hit on the head, then choked, then managed to wriggle her way out of a sheet while buried underground. And it lucked out that she had been buried with her purse so she could call for help when she got out. And then that epilogue felt so pointless and unnecessary. I don't think we see it coming, but aside from revealing that Eve is just as bad as her husband, it does not add much to the story as a whole.
Spoiler It bothered me that they all ised the term "slept with" when referring to Nate's student teacher relationships instead of saying "assaulted" which is what he did because they were teenagers... As a high school English teacher it grossed me out. WE DO NOT CLAIM NATE BENNET lol
SPOILER: i believe Addie had daddy issues. So, everytime an older male treated her nicely, she developed feelings. Thats what i think happened wirh mr. Tuttle
I wanted to read this just because it's about my profession and I wanted it on my shelf but I had a feeling it was gonna suck so I couldn't bring myself to buy it 😂 glad I was right!
I think I have more fun watching this review (with all the graphic animation 😵!) and it saved me a ton of time 😂 I only read One by One 3⭐️ and Never Lie 1⭐️. Both have OTT reveals trying to shock me but it didn’t work - both endings were ludicrous! 😂
I hated it, really hated it almost gave up reading many many time and it only took me a day and a half to get through. I basically kept reading to see if I was correct abt (SPOILERS)the guy teacher 🙈I can’t remember his name all of a sudden -having had an inappropriate relationship with Eve when she was his student. So many things pointed to that and I was surprised it only got revealed at the very end. So many things pointed to the creep only being interested in young girls including their stunted intimacy issues. I can kind of understand Eve seeming young because having been groomed and then marrying her groomer could lead to that kind of mindset- I just could not stand that she went ahead and had a relationship with a student herself. I wanted to go back see if J was described as looking older then he is to justify it but I just couldn’t be asked. I did love that Eve used all of the Poe stuff to miss with his head and I appreciate that he thinks he’s some poetic genius but has only been able to write one really bad poem he keeps reusing over and over again. Yikes.
SPOILER disagree with you about the big reveal at the end... it makes the title "The Teacher" take more than one villan. And remember who is the murder at the end and also... who is doing inapropiate things with an student. So... it is very vwry meanfull
This book was just plain ridiculous. I mean come on wtf?? I consider a plot twist to be good only if it makes you think "how could I have missed that." The final reveal cannot be predicted by anyone. There were literally no clues to help reach the twist. Also as you mentioned it adds zero value to the book.
I’m probably not going to be reading anymore of her works after she basically said on FB that she doesn’t think TWs are necessary and refused to put them on this book even though the subject matter can be triggering for a lot of people. She basically said that if you read the synopsis then you shouldn’t be surprised what the subject matter is.
Oooh how I agree with this!!! I read this a while ago. It was my second one with The Housemaid being the first which I thought was ok. But this one I was appalled actually. I don’t like the lightheartedness of the grooming. I’m sick of the weak females (mentally) that she writes about. None of those women in her books has any substance. I just can’t. I won’t read another unless it’s something I am completely enamored by but even then….
I agree with you. About the author and about this book. I have read several of her books because they are so popular and I have a bit of FOMO, but I am done. I feel like all the women are portrayed as silly, naïve, and just unrelatable.
I can’t with McFadden. I’ve read Never Lie, The Inmate and The Locked Door. They all felt like books you could write a one page summary on and be done (kind of like you did here). There was no beautiful writing to enjoy, quotes to highlight, no meaning, just a silly predictable mystery. I generally don’t like to be negative about authors, but because the plagiarism accusations are really hard to get past, the book similarities sound absurd, I just don’t feel bad. Maybe as a teen I would’ve loved these books, but that’s about that.
I didn't like how she kept writing that the age of consent was actually 16 in the state..... I'm like what? does that matter? And it took to the very end before she actually started writing that it was grooming
I dnf'd The Teacher. I hated that book. I'm currently reading the coworker and so far it's good. She has another one called The Boyfriend coming out Oct. 1, 2024. I've read all her books and only dnf'd one.
I hated this one. I haven't really liked any of her books since the Housemaid. I really thought she was IT when I read the Locked Door, the Wife Upstairs and Do Not Disturb, but nothing has been as good since I read those!
completely disagree, end plot twist was VERY meaningful and things like victim becoming abuser is very interesting to look at, it literally is a teenage girl so ofc its written like that, and eve is just that way inclined that's her character like. and rating it down because of the grooming etc is unfair like ofc its bad, its a story like
Since I read ”Ward D” I have been boycotting her books. The way she described people with mental health issues was disgusting. As someone who suffers from depression myself, I just don’t know if I can support McFadden after that😂 I have enjoyed her books prior, but something inside me just burst when I read ”Ward D”. Should I give her another chance?
Spoiler alert/question? That whole ending weirded me out. The fact that she woke up from the dead and decided to live in a student's toolshed because she feared him getting away with attempted murder and sexual relationship with a student? And then the ended when they reveal Jay is actually Jankowski.... like didnt Eve kept saying "his wife and baby" so like did she not know that hes a kid? What is happening?
@user-ym1pg5sq2y exactly!! The math doesn't make sense. It took him 45 mins to get to Addie. Eve said she laid in the dirt for an hour just to make sure Addie was gone and then called Jay. So that means it shouldve taken atleast an hour and half to drive back to the spot to pick up Eve after dropping of addie. Idk just doesn't add up. I think that twist was just thrown together.
I found this book so repetitive. I hate when something happens in the plot then two sentences later the character has to reiterate the implication of the event like it didn’t just happen 20 seconds ago!
This is the first book by this author I read. The one thing that doesn’t add up is (Hudson/Jay) 🤨 Eve thought he was married with a baby. Which the baby she heard crying when they were on the phone once was actually Hudson’s baby brother-ok that works. However if Hudson is Jay that works at the shoe store…..and also attends school where Eve works…..then she would have known him from school so that doesn’t work, Good twist but ultimately doesn’t add up. Thoughts???
I just finished it at breakfast today! 😂😂😂 SPOILERS Jay was the star QB at the school she teached, but she didn't know him???????? J lied to Eve and said he was married with a baby, but was actually a HS student living at home with a baby brother???????????? Also, that poem that entranced all these ladies was the biggest pile of 💩💩💩 I've ever read. 😂😂 Glad this book was left in my LFL ... or maybe I'm not? 🤔📚📮
What really had me confused was how he pick up both Eve and Addie dang near at the same time anddddd went to the shoe store to get Eve shoes andddd tormented Nate/ knocked him out and help killed him when he apparently ignored Addie for a whole year cuz of the accident death of the father Very confused, still enjoyed it tho
As a fanfiction/Wattpad addict for many years who was absolutely obsessed with the teacher/student thing I really liked that the whole dead body thing at the beginning was amazing. That said, it sounds really predictable straight up Wattpad vibes with much better language and of course, no typos.
I loved Never Lie. I hated The Teacher so much. I have a bad taste in my mouth. I do like a lot of her books. Maybe it is because she spits them out too fast like you said.
I tried not to like it but I can’t 😂I listen this and never lie on audio with the same narrator and maybe thanks to her voice that gives more emotion and interesting energy to the book I did like it. Also you went into it already not liking the synopsis and the teacher student relationship so that can throw you off 😊. But I enjoyed your review!
I actually loved this book. The only book I didn’t really like was the second Housemaid book. I’ll be reading the third one, but I thought that one was awful. Overall, tho, I enjoyed The Teacher.
good job. this book was way too contrived and far-fetched for me. Unbelievable epilogue. drivel. there are better books to read, better authors to read.

Hahah fair!
Spoiler Observation:
I found it a bit annoying that the storyline with the fired teacher, Art, was never resolved or explained. I find only 2 possible explanations as to why it was in the story 1) To made us suspicious of Addie i.e. Art's strong warning for Eve to stay away from Addie or 2) We haven't seen the last of Addie, prepare for a sequel!😂😂😂
Yeah I felt the same thing
Love her books so much , I have read The Ex . The Gift and The Wife Upstairs so far . For me she never dissapoints . ❤❤
Agreed. I just finished The Teacher and boy had I fun. The last two plot twists in that book had my jaw dropped on the floor. To me, personally, it's super easy and quick reads and she knows how to entertain . I love her books. But everything is in the eye of the beholder.
@@irisclaudia3670it was definitely an easy read there are just plots and plot twists that should have beeen explained more/better in my opinion
SPOILERS:
I feel the story could have been more interesting if the conflict had been set between Eve and Addie.
Spoiler
It bothered me that they all ised the term "slept with" when referring to Nate's student teacher relationships instead of saying "assaulted" which is what he did because they were teenagers... As a high school English teacher it grossed me out. WE DO NOT CLAIM NATE BENNET lol
SPOILER: i believe Addie had daddy issues. So, everytime an older male treated her nicely, she developed feelings. Thats what i think happened wirh mr. Tuttle
Have you read do not disturb?? It’s another Frieda McFadden book it’s really good
I wanted to read this just because it's about my profession and I wanted it on my shelf but I had a feeling it was gonna suck so I couldn't bring myself to buy it 😂 glad I was right!
Good call 😂
Interesting. I've always hated her books but I loved The Teacher
I think I have more fun watching this review (with all the graphic animation 😵!) and it saved me a ton of time 😂
I only read One by One 3⭐️ and Never Lie 1⭐️. Both have OTT reveals trying to shock me but it didn’t work - both endings were ludicrous! 😂
I'm wondering if there is going to be sequel because the art situation was never explained.
Lol! I just borrowed this book from the library a few days back and I already know I'm going to return it unread.😅
I feel like FM left it open for a potential Teacher Part 2?!
A poor man's version of My Dark Vanessa turned into a crime thriller 😏
Stop reading it then
I agree with her.Every thriller has some triggers because it's that kind of literature.Don't read thrillers or horrors if you are so sensitive!
She also talks about high heels constantly in The Inmate. Ugh her writing just kills me
What the heck is up with the high heels?!?
I enjoyed the book
I agree with you. About the author and about this book. I have read several of her books because they are so popular and I have a bit of FOMO, but I am done. I feel like all the women are portrayed as silly, naïve, and just unrelatable.
I've been planning to read some of her books, but i'm constantly seeing mixed to negative reviews
Yeah I think as she continues to get more exposure the expectations rise, and then we keep getting let down 🥲
One by One was the first Frieda book I read after housemaid which was a 5 star read for me. it was absolutely terrible lol
Haven’t read that one yet & don’t plan to now 😂
I’ve never read a Freida McFadden book yet!
Stay strong! 😂
After Ward D I am done with her. I also liked the housemaid but everything else has been trash.
I hated this one. I haven't really liked any of her books since the Housemaid. I really thought she was IT when I read the Locked Door, the Wife Upstairs and Do Not Disturb, but nothing has been as good since I read those!
completely disagree, end plot twist was VERY meaningful and things like victim becoming abuser is very interesting to look at, it literally is a teenage girl so ofc its written like that, and eve is just that way inclined that's her character like. and rating it down because of the grooming etc is unfair like ofc its bad, its a story like
100% agree with you!
I actually liked this one better than the housemaid
Since I read ”Ward D” I have been boycotting her books. The way she described people with mental health issues was disgusting. As someone who suffers from depression myself, I just don’t know if I can support McFadden after that😂 I have enjoyed her books prior, but something inside me just burst when I read ”Ward D”. Should I give her another chance?
I’m team “don’t waste your time” 😂
@@ashleyslittlelibrary Then I shall take your advice! There are too many good books out there to be read instead📚
Nooooo clue tbh 😅 I’m guessing the “wife and a baby” thing was a lie to throw off the reader?? She HAD to have known he was a student too, right?
@user-ym1pg5sq2y exactly!! The math doesn't make sense. It took him 45 mins to get to Addie. Eve said she laid in the dirt for an hour just to make sure Addie was gone and then called Jay. So that means it shouldve taken atleast an hour and half to drive back to the spot to pick up Eve after dropping of addie. Idk just doesn't add up. I think that twist was just thrown together.
Whoa, thanks for your review! I'm gonna skip this book. Lol
Omg this was a 6 star book for me! Dang. I’m sorry!!
Glad you had a better time with it!
I really wish I could have watched this before I wasted my time reading it 😢
I found this book so repetitive. I hate when something happens in the plot then two sentences later the character has to reiterate the implication of the event like it didn’t just happen 20 seconds ago!
Never could get into Frida’s books😩
Hated the coworker and couldn’t finish it
I’ve read 4 books of her and I’ve had enough. 😅😅
You should read/listen to Ward D. I think it was much better than The Teacher
Just finished this and hated it, and was so excited that you hated it too. Is there a word for that?
Comfort in mutual suffering? 😂
This is the first book by this author I read.
The one thing that doesn’t add up is (Hudson/Jay)
🤨
Eve thought he was married with a baby.
Which the baby she heard crying when they were on the phone once was actually Hudson’s baby brother-ok that works.
However if Hudson is Jay that works at the shoe store…..and also attends school where Eve works…..then she would have known him from school so that doesn’t work,
Good twist but ultimately doesn’t add up.
Thoughts???
I just finished it at breakfast today! 😂😂😂
SPOILERS
Jay was the star QB at the school she teached, but she didn't know him????????
J lied to Eve and said he was married with a baby, but was actually a HS student living at home with a baby brother????????????
Also, that poem that entranced all these ladies was the biggest pile of 💩💩💩 I've ever read. 😂😂
Glad this book was left in my LFL ... or maybe I'm not? 🤔📚📮
What really had me confused was how he pick up both Eve and Addie dang near at the same time anddddd went to the shoe store to get Eve shoes andddd tormented Nate/ knocked him out and help killed him when he apparently ignored Addie for a whole year cuz of the accident death of the father
Very confused, still enjoyed it tho
As a fanfiction/Wattpad addict for many years who was absolutely obsessed with the teacher/student thing I really liked that the whole dead body thing at the beginning was amazing. That said, it sounds really predictable straight up Wattpad vibes with much better language and of course, no typos.
I read this last week and it was just the worst book
I just read never lie and it was a 2.5 read for me. It just made no sense.
I think it’s just bad lol books can be great with this kind of dynamic. This one was just bad in my opinion. Not because of the topic lol
I intensely disliked The Housemaid and never gave her another chance.
I really liked that book I like the inmate and Ward D
I actually loved this book. The only book I didn’t really like was the second Housemaid book. I’ll be reading the third one, but I thought that one was awful. Overall, tho, I enjoyed The Teacher.
good job. this book was way too contrived and far-fetched for me. Unbelievable epilogue. drivel. there are better books to read, better authors to read.
you should review your ratings cuz 1 star??? if it was 1 star you wouldn't even have finished it. its fine if you didn't like it, but doesn't mean its a 1 star story.. please.
Nope it was 1 star - I finish 1 stars all the time and everyone’s entitled to their own rating scale!
Did not get past 20 pages. I'm done with her. So many better thriller writers.
Can you please suggest some good thriller writers?
@ Hank Phillippi Ryan
Lucy Foley. Riley Sager. Robyn Harding. David Ellis. Meg Gardiner. Lisa Gardner. Ruth Ware.
Wenn ich Freida Mc Fadden höre... 👎👎👎 Der absolute Mist
I got so bored a few chapters in and stuck with that really long and full of detailed spoilers review that's on Goodreads. So glad I just read that instead because lord. It was like a 15 year old DID write it.
