If you scrape the leads of the crayons on a piece of sandpaper over the piece where you want textures..on damp it spreads, on dry you can touch with a wet brush or carefully spray the area. It's a magical effect especially if you hold a group of colours together. Bx

Awesome! No worries, I use black all the time in WC. 😊 There are no rules, just personal opinions.

Thanks for sharing this. Love all the color in the final piece. Thanks for showing how you grab color from the pencil and how you also showed the color palette process.

Thanks GAL! I love watercolor pencils. My favorites are the Faber Castell and Caran d’ Ache. Both excellent.

I really want to get some more of the Faber castell! I only have 6 but they do see like the pencils I have tried so far. When I get a set together I’ll do a demo/review I think 😊

That’s a beautiful painting! I love the style and only started urban sketching recently. I use watercolour and inktense pencils too, and bought a plastic palette by Caran d’Ache which has a rough side to shave the pigments off the pencils for better mixing. I haven’t tried it yet but it sounded like a good idea.

Thank you so much Brigitte! Ooh that Caran D'ache palette sounds super interesting! Not sure I have seen that before. Very cool. Are you on Instagram? Tag me if you are, I'd love to see what you're experimenting with! You can find me @lookingouttosee_ OR @urbansketchingworld - thanks so much for your comment!

@@tarias_sketchy_adventures That's the palette I mentioned before. I love it! Especially for watercolour pencil mixing.

@@tarias_sketchy_adventures Yeppers :) It's expensive for a bit of hard plastic, I think I paid about nine quid, but it's brilliant. I use the smooth backside for normall watercolour paint, and the rough side for watercolour coloured pencils. It cleans a dream. Plus small and easy to stash for urban sketching. As I mentioned in some other post, I'm not sure about the staining quality of Inktense pencils on this palette...

@@tarias_sketchy_adventures I’ll try it out and put a review on Instagram - will tag you there! It’s a bit expensive, so I waited until it was on sale (under £10). The smooth side should be great for mixing water based markers - I have to try that too!

The white seems very smooth and more opaque than I'd thought looking at other white watercolour pencil demos. But I'm yet to try toned paper! I'm still enjoying a dip and dab of white gouache straight from the tube... maybe a little too obvious and harsh on the eye at times, but I guess that's just getting used to it and I'm new to gouache. Lovely painting, T... and love how you speak about your process organically, warts 'n all... the reason I subscribe X

Thank you so much Wen. Yeh I think showing the honest process is the only way, and I hope it really encourages other people to just have a go :) I really want to do more with gouache...its on my to do list for 2021!

Hi just found your video by searching yt as I purchased a Lyra Aquarelle pencil and a couple of other brands that my art store had on open stock. I mainly use Prismacolour and also Inktense pencils. Anyway, I was intrigued with you drawing the door, and talking about your Pinterest page, so I followed you on Pinterest and love your page, I like you seem to be, am completely taken by interesting doors. In 2008 I went overseas including Italy, and took heaps of photos of old doors. I have also now subscribed to your YT channel, and look forward to seeing more vidoes, and thanks for the reviews, so helpful. Cheers from hot South Australia

Hi Kendra, I like to use fountain pens generally, my fave is a TWSBI Eco but I also like Lamy Safari's. I also use fineliners....and any brand will do: Pigma micron, Uni Ball, Steadtler, copic etc....
