I really wished they continued the 2005 series, especially since the manga has a lot of material for a second season. A battle between Sho and Agito in their Gigantic forms would have been amazing to see animated.

I found Guyver on VHS as a teenager browsing Virgin Megastore back when that was a thing, but fortunately in the compilation video form where you got 4 episodes per video. The artwork on those three was just sublime. I remember bringing it into school to show my friends and a teacher confiscating it for months... I never should have let him take *my* property like that, especially something as treasured as the Guyver.
I 100% agree with the artwork being the drawing point! I rented the first one purely on how interesting the case was! This was my gateway to Anime in the 90s as a kid
I miss this series, I was happy with the 2000's reboot (Which was closer too the Manga) and hope they continue from where that series stopped. Plus a finished ending for the manga.

Mark hamil was not the guyver in the the first movie he was a detective helping the scientist protect the guyver unit until him and the Scientist got captured and the then guyver one came and save him and Masuki but cronos had put mark hamil’s character in the pod going thru the process of zoanoid and came out to early and transformed and the he died but mark hamil didn’t play as the guyver
Wrongo. That series came out in japan in the late 80s. The first movie was in 1991 the second in 94. Both based loosely on the bio booster armor series. The original ova "out of control" was in '86.
I'm a Guyver fan. I have been since the early 90's. I used to collect the tapes as well as other anime which I still have today. It was my first collection of anything. I even have a few of the figures. I've got all 3 Guyvers as well as Murakami in his Zoalord form. It's a shame they never finished the story. Maybe one day.

Guyver was one of my first anime's as a kid growing up in the 90's, then as a tenager I bought the original 90's series from HMV on DVD. The back cover gave an awful description of Chronos being vampires and I didn't give it a chance at the time.
I took a holiday from Ireland to either New York or Toronto (not sure which) many years ago, where I discovered the 2-dvd Guyver set. VHS was the only way to watch the show in Ireland and I can't describe my joy when I picked up the dvds
Guyver anime and manga are fantastic. I am not super huge anime/manga fan but I got totally amazed by guyver. Never understood why it never got larger fane. Two animes both ended too soon. Sadly I heard the creator died recently so the amazing story will remain unfinished 😞

The series actually began its run in the late 80s prior to it there was an Movie Called Bio Booster Armor Guyver : Out Of Control predating the two live American produced live action Films the first featuring Mark Hamil as a coo and the second featuring David Hayter (AKA Solid Snake) as the lead. The VHS you have must be the MANGA run of the English version when they acquired the distribution rights for the English version which sucks because the removed the original opening track. L. A. Hero had the rights in the US prior and they were 2 episodes per tape with the original opening and closings intact. MANGA also release the show on DVD with the final Episodes from each arc containing the original opening and ending themes so I would check for that online. MANGA was awful when the distributed series back in the 90s they were the only ones who did that one episode per tape crap. Also check out the 2005 reboot it’s more closer the manga.

The Manga it is based on never had a ending but the last anime onkly got though like under half of what story existed in the Manga. I do not think it will ever end though in Anime Form. Modern anime viewers and fans do not know of the series and alot of shows made now are sold on how cute the girls are to sell merch you can,nt really do that with this series. Yet some of the Elemental Heries in Yugioh card game was clearly based off the series. They is a One episode series that was made more the 80's one called Guyver Out of Control you can finded Subed on UA-cam. Though it was a prototype to the 12 part series yet had a Female Guyver in it who was not in the 12 part version.

Reasons they never made more, and this is just a guess on my part. The original format is a manga comic, and that's been coming out veeerrryyy slowly over the past, like, what, 3 decades? It's like a lot of other anime series based on a manga, if the manga isn't finished, the anime series, or whatever, either stops at a certain point (which this one did), or they keep going and make up a different ending (like the first Full Metal Alchemist series). Sometimes, after the manga finishes, they may do another series, starting from the beginning, and retell the story, more in line with the manga. FMA did this, so did Hellsing, probably a lot of others too. Guyver may do this some day, but only if the manga ever finishes, and it takes forever for new volumes/chapters to be released. The various anime releases (a movie, an OVA, then a 26ep series), each one tells the story a little further than the previous release, because the manga progressed a bit further by that point, so....yeah, there ya go.

I belive with advancement in technology and research in fungi in about 50 years humans would be able to create this armour suit. You should look in to unbelievable attributes of mushrooms. The research in using mushrooms to build unbreakable furniture. What amazes me that this gayver armour is got all the attributes of mushrooms.
You didn't mention the single 1 ep. OVA, nor the later full 26 ep(?) reboot from ADV. The main reason I think it was never continued from the original 12 is I don't think it was that popular in Japan. You can tell during the 2nd series (7-12) the quality of the animation was getting worse.
cuz the guy who created the story never finished it and there is a lot of unanswered questions the anime ends with Guyver Gigantor but the manga keeps going after that and still is left open the 2 American live action movies that we got are pretty okay really wish this story would just be finished already almost 18 years later but it probably never will be

The original 12 ep was released in the mid/late 80's I believe then followed by the first movie in the late 80's the second movie came out in the early 90's then the 20+ ep version came out in the mid 00's.
The first Guyver live action movie. Mark Hamill was not the protagonist. He was a support character. Also, he had a bad death scene where he was forced to transform into a bug, then died. Sad use of Hamill.

Mark Hamill doesn’t play The Guyver, the English title for the first movie is Mutronics and I think you can get it on blu-ray at HMV

No, Yoshiki Takaya is still alive. He just hasn’t drawn a new chapter since 2016. You might be getting mixed up with Kentaro Miura of Berserk’s death.

The first movie was bad but its a guilty pleasure of mine. It had a great cast and introduced me to the series as a whole.
