Jesse Eisenberg on Playing Lex Luthor in Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice
/ latenightseth
No one had faith in this guy. He played a teen heartthrob in 10 things I hate about you, a gay cowboy in brokeback mountain, a knight in a Knights tale, Casanova in Casanova and an outlaw in Ned Kelly. They really were his noteworthy movies and still, despite how many people had no faith (almost everyone) in Heath ledger to play the joker, he pulled off the best depiction of the villain. In my opinion, he pulled off the best villain role in any superhero movie, and maybe any movie. My point is, judge an actor on their performance after they have fucking performed it.
Someone with some sense. Thank you for this comment.
Well said sir
True words
tom campbell if the studio would show us ore than this would all disappear
xxwantedxx but then all the anticipation would disappear! I love not knowing anything about a movie. Makes the experience better when you haven't watched three trailers and 5 sneak peaks
Personally loved Jesse's take on Luther. Fucking amazing acting imo.
agree!
+Zarah O. Too cringy...
+Zarah O. 100%
+Jesse Eisenberg lol
+Jesse Eisenberg It's easy to act when you can just make up your own version.
"If you guys were the inventors of Facebook, you'd have invented Facebook"
I love him on The Social Network marvellous film.
KAREN MANCERA VARON if you guys were the inventor of lexcorp, you would have invented lexcorp
KAREN MANCERA VARON I think if your clients want to sit on my shoulders and call themselves tall, they have the right to give it a try - but there's no requirement that I enjoy sitting here listening to people lie. You have part of my attention - you have the minimum amount. The rest of my attention is back at the offices of Facebook, where my colleagues and I are doing things that no one in this room, including and especially your clients, are intellectually or creatively capable of doing...Did I adequately answer your condescending question?
KAREN MANCERA VARON Do you see any of your code on Facebook? Do you?
How to make Seth Meyers look mellow and comfortable: Put him next to Jesse Eisenberg.
I think that was Seth's best interview yet.
I'm excited for Batman V Superman! I hope he does a good Lex Luthor.
***** NOPE. It's gonna look cheap af.
I think it would annoy/shock Marvel fanboys if nothing else.
Batman V Superman is good but not Lex Luthor
yeah I know. I made this comment before I saw the movie.
Alex WAllar Is the Lex Luthor from Birthright
he is such a fast talker
Just remember my words guys, he is about to become one of the greatest actors in his generation
i was just thinking about it
He is already ..
@@aynurmusayeva8388 yup😂😂😂. He will be mention forever.
By turning in a terrible villain performance in BvS you mean?
so apparently it's been 3 years since you commented this and he is still underrated.. i hope that one day he will get the recognition he deserves.
He's so awkward. I love it.
I loved him as Lex. I think people are hesitant right now of his performance because it wasn't spot on comic book Luthor but I think he stayed to the character enough for it to be iconic while still adding his own touch to it. Overall brilliant
Only good thing in the whole movie was him
No only good thing were the fx
just saw the movie, and i think jesse was SO good he did so well really. lex author is like the role of his life. the movie was SO EXCITING. Ben affleck was great!!!!! Jesse stole the show tho.
+Fionna Adeline ikr! i am glad to see someone who likes his role in the movie!!!!!!!
haha yas!!!!!
yesss!!!!! I'm named from lex luthor and im happy!!!!
OMGGGG THAT'S AWESOME. Your parents are amazing
And my classmayes always call me lex 😆
I can’t believe jesse is a dad i love it! The thought of him giving his child an advice is adorable XD
every time I hear him I just think of Blu in Rio lol damn
4hotpink10 watch better movies
Beau Agrawal I do it just stuck
Beau Agrawal Rio is a good movie
mmk
4hotpink10 Yeah, his voice are soo cute
I actually really liked his "mad scientist" interpretation of Lex Luthor.
I feel like he is a genius whenever I see him talk.
yeah I think this was probably one of Seth's best interviews too. They were really just having a good conversation together and Jesse was really into it and I think Seth was really into it too.
Jesse is hilarious and I feel he's become so much more confident. His interviews are a pleasure to watch (:
the most anticipated movie ever !
Kenyon Krause Yes it is, and i bet you will be standing in the queue to get the tickets
Kenyon Krause then what is it, can you enlighten us
Any new episode/movie of Star Wars.
usman ismail After Ben Affleck ,the casting announcements went down hill...
John dignerds i guess we can only judge after we have actually seen the movie
We have an Academy Award Nominee playing Lex Luthor - we should be pretty damn happy about that.
lairdriver the last Lex Luthor, Kevin Spacey, was an Academy Award winner. Didn't help the movie that much though...
***** That movie was setup totally different to be an extension of the Donner films. Critics loved that film. It got 75% on Rotten Tomatoes. Superman Returns is very much underrated. There was action in it. But it was more man vs himself, man vs nature.
They also portrayed Superman alot more alien like. Brand Routh did nail Clark Kent on the head though.
***** nope nope nope.
my problem with what you posted is that you are so "matter of fact". movies, and movie performances are all subjective. you are entitled to your opinion but don't be like Hitler and tell everyone else how to think and feel. I liked Singer's Superman. Not as much as Donner's but whatever... Also Kevin Spacey??? Are you sure you know all of his films? What about Verbal? What about Buddy Ackerman? What about John Doe? The more I type, the more i realize that you are probably only joking. No one is that dumb. this is all a ruse isn't it?
this is the internet. Not america. Your earth rules don't apply here. no wonder everyone hates you guys.....and just read my post. No one compared you to Hitler. I merely pointed out the fact that he liked to control what people felt and thought(for instance: you should not like this movie because i say so). Don't overreact. If we cant talk calmly about stuff we probably shouldn't be posting in the first place right? right.
Love him as an actor...still dunno about him as Lex Luthor, _especially_ if he's gonna be talking like he usually does. Nevertheless, hoping for the best
Gundamn Mechahunter he's an actor for fucks sake. When you ACT, you are not your normal self.
Gundamn Mechahunter I'm bitching at a guy for being a dumb ass
I see...and just how was i being a dumb ass?
Gundamn Mechahunter Jesse Eisenberg as Lex Luthor? Ben Affleck as Batman? Well, we'll see. We'll see.
***** oh shut up, you're acting like you've produced 10 movies.
You're free to judge actors AFTER you watch the movie.
I was one of the few who believed in Heath Ledger as The Joker from the get go, but Jesse Eisenberg as Lex Luthor is odd to me. I hope he does awesome and absolutely shocks the world, but I'll have to wait and see.
That's because ledger had proven himself capable of transforming himself for roles. Eisenberg- not so much. Ledger was just a much more proven acting talent
DZSignal the difference was that he hadn't been typecast aa the same role in every movie. True he had never played a maniacal psychopath, but few have. The encouraging part was that he had demonstrated himself capable of transforming himself into a character other than himself. Hell even just being able to change his accent was more acting talent than Eisenberg has exhibited thus far.
And this isn't even taking into account the drastic age difference between Eisenberg and the classic interpretation of luthor. An age gap that did not exist in ledgers case.
DZSignal I don't really care what "people" do. I don't speak for "people."
Im speaking for myself, to you, and I explained to you why I'm very doubtful Eisenberg will make a good luthor.
DZSignal I repeat:why do you think Eisenberg is right for the role of lex luthor?
rainmaker6261 Jesse was incredible in The Social Network
His approach to Lex Luthor was actually incredible. I think he did a great job
+Gerardo Delgado he was fucking brutal imo.
Yes!!! yes finally someone who gets it :)
it was some of the worst acting ive ever seen. Nothing like lex luthor
+Grandpa Rick He didnt play Lex Luthor. he played Lex Luthors son, which for some reason they have the same nickname.
Gigglebytes 23 yeah that's just stupid. The real lex luthor has so much potential to be the greatest villain on the big screen but of course dc dont take that opportunity.
he is so young and likable!! i wanna see him in the movie now =)
omg his acting was so damn gd in the movie..
no it wasnt.
Yeah it was amazing.
Amazing
He was such a good actor in bvs.
+Ramith Ram Why anyone would like this a**hole's performance in the movie is beyond my understanding. The fact that he's promoting it makes me dislike him even more.
***** What's that supposed to mean?
he was terrible.
He really was.
Jesse was just like Lex Luthor in Superman: Birthright, he was a great Lex in BvS
He seems like such a fascinating human being just to sit and have a coffee with! Like super intelligent!
Jesse Eisenberg should be the Flash. The way he speak is super fast
I have to admit that I was very skeptical with Jesse as Lex when I saw the trailer. But when I saw the movie, he was actually pretty awesome. Great acting, and the quirky personality actually disguises his villainous side very well.
Oh please. His Lex was one part Tony Stark, three parts Heath Ledger's Joker, and one part Tim Burton's Willy Wonka. Nothing like the cold, Machiavellian businessman/scientist from the comics.
MrPjw5 Have you seen the other Superman movies? His performance isn't too different from Gene Hackman or Kevin Spacey.
MrPjw5 I didn't say that his Luthor was the right one. I just said that his acting was pretty good for what he got.
MrPjw5 is completely right. Jesse played his usual one trick pony role. He does that awkward twitchy character in every single film. That isn't Lex. Kevin Spacey from House of Cards is Lex Luthor. However, it seems like the teenagers ate up Jesse so they made the right choice at the bank.
CptCanada I think that "awkward twitchy character" thing is just an act. He does show a degree of menace in his character, too. It's subtle, but it's there.
He looks like he could be Tom Brady's awkward brother.
Yeah his younger smaller brother Tad Brady! Lol
Bruce Wayne Who is tom brady ?
I actually thought he'd be more like Jason Statham's younger awkward brother lol
darkknight5696 Or just any shaved head white guy's younger brother.
shane womeldorff
My point exactly ;)
He sounds so intimidated, every time Jessie Eisenberg speaks he sounds nervous, even when speaking to Seth Meyers who is a genuinely nice person!
I don't know what his Luther will be like but I'm open to it, it could still surprise everybody the way Heath Ledger surprised with the Joker
Jesse's take on Lex Luthor was simply incredible. This is the most sinister and ruthless Lex Luthor ever put on screen. He kills everyone in this part including a US senato and manages to fool the world's greatest detective. Its funny how fanboys talk about how Lex in the comics is smart, yet he can't figure out Superman's identity. This Lex figures out the identity of not only the Bat and Supes, but the entire Justice league roster easily without wasting time. Love BVS and can't wait for more DCEU films.
I think knowing he's an awkward but well spoken guy in real life makes him all the more perfect for the part of Lex. I think his performance in the film was phenomenal. Lex Luthor is a genius, most geniuses, especially those with a sort of God complex about them, will stutter and start to sound insane when they speak for a while. He executed Luthor's insane genius perfectly by doing this.
He was my favorite in BvS
i never watch batman/superman series..but once my friends asked me to go watch the dawn of justice..and hell yeha i was fall for the villain! jesse sure catch my eyes with his daring way of talk
I'm excited for BvS as much as every nerd out there but I'm also excited for that play.
So this Lex Luthor is a young dude with long hair hmmm....Lex in Smallville was young and he was great hmmm...and Gene Hackman's Luthor had hair....yeah he'll be fine.
+Rowan J Coleman It would have been awesome to have Gene Hackman back as an older Lex Luthor. The guy is fucking intense. He beat people up on set lol. I can just imagine him going all Crimson Tide or Mississippi Burning on Superman. When he got older, the villain role suited him so well.
+Rowan J Coleman I guess it makes sense that Lex has long hair just like his father Lionel Luthor in Smallville. Noticed the tone of his voice and his personality when he talks to Clark Kent and Bruce Wayne in the trailer? It reminds me a lot of John Glover's Lionel Luthor
Jesse was awesome as Luther
I enjoyed him as Lex Luthor
So did I. Screw anyone who dislikes something and goes around telling everyone they shouldn't like it either.
I believe in Jesse Eisenberg! I think he could bring a brilliant performance as Luthor.
"I forgot my helmet... and I'm out of gum!" hahaha
I wanted the dude from breaking bad to be lex Luther.
So did we all, good sir. So did we all.
no thanks. More of the same weve already seen before
Who ? Jesse Heisenberg ?
James Shannon Bryan Cranston was rumored to be connected to the role for months, many were surprised he didn't get the role. he's not my first choice, but I think he'd be a better pick than Eisenberg. he's the only cast member I'm not wild about, it's mainly his voice.I want to see Clancy Brown play Lex Luthor. he's played the animated Lex for years in Superman and Justice League. with his size and build he would make for a very imposing Lex, which would contrast perfectly against Affleck and Cavill.
Lord Stinson Cranston.
I think he's gonna kill it as Lex.
I miss his hair :'/ seeing the official photo last week was tough.... but the it honestly gives him this mature look
I really see him as Lex now. It's gonna work
I like is weird adventures and how he really relates to people.
One of the better talkshows. With relevant questions, and a host who isn't trying but IS funny.
personally i think jesse eisenberg is one of the best actors out there. he talks real fast and it's great that he turns it into an advantage by playing roles as either a psychopath, freak, villain, and even a fidgetting nerd. he's too awesome.
If I were in that crowd, I would have yelled "Do your Lex Luthor Voice!" Thats pretty much all I'm worried about...
I was thinking the same.
Sooo...I heard his voice in the latest teaser trailer and not much has changed. I guess I'll reserve my final judgement for when I see the actual movie. Still a little disappointed tho...
Superman13195 Yeah...And?
Superman13195 ...So hostile. There is nothing left to say. I've heard all I needed to hear. ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)
He's very geeky and that makes him very attractive. I love how he talks with his hands just like me. I thought I was weird for that. 😂
Jesse, I swear to god, stop being cute. 😐
😂😂😂😂😂😃😂😂😂😂😂
I would Love to see his play. I'm from Nepal too....
We've all been expecting Heisenberg as Luthor. But one letter off and we've got THIS!
You can feel how nervous Jessie is
I've never been less suprised to learn someone's a playwright.
Bryan Cranston should be playing lex luthor.
+Xiang (Fortehlolz)
you mean walter white
+Xiang (Fortehlolz) he did an interview about how it would be basically be playing the same character as W.W. no one wants a rehash. besides everyone complained about how DC movies lack humor, at least this luthor will inject some, do i love their directing choice, no but im rolling with it and i think it will be decent
+Xiang (Fortehlolz) NOPE he should be playing Gordon
The way Jesse Eisenberg talks here, is the same as all his movies
+The Guy In The Hat Yeah totally. If cranston was lex then all we would see is walter white when he shaves the head. This will for sure be the role where jessie breaks his typecasting. Thats the real problem, hes just never been offered a role like this
Loved him in BvS
I think he's too cute for Lex Luthor.
Lex Luthor (with long hair) was played by the guy who also was Blu the macaw from Rio and Columbus from Zombieland? **mind explodes**
One of my favourite actor! Seriously he's soo good!
Jesse will nail this role!
he seems so awkward and nervous but he's still trying to throw in jokes and make conversation. it's kinda like he's michael cera's older brother who's been famous longer so he's a bit more used to interviews but he still has that inherent awkward quality
I think he'll do a great job as Lex.
Love Jesse)
I really like Jesse's hair.
Jesse's underrated
Great actor 🙏♥️♥️🙏
he seems so down to earth in this i love it
I feel like he's always been typecasted, especially after his performance as Mark Zuckerberg. I like him and I do believe that he's a good actor though, he just need a breakthrough from all of the typecasting-roles that's been following his career and show the audience that he too is a versatile actor. Hopefully, him being casted as Lex Luthor is that breakthrough.
Don't forget he played a cgi bird in a kids movie once.
I love this dude's personality
The Lex Luthor that Jesse Eisenberg plays in this film is in real life Chris Kingsley, a tech mogul who heads a company called 42 and who was in Phillips Exeter Academy's Class of 2000 and also graduated from the University of Pennsylvania in the Class of 2004. Jesse Eisenberg is just playing Chris Kingsley as Lex Luthor in this.
anyone who think he is gonna mess up as lex.... please SHUT UP ! Batman vs Superman would be marvelous and its success is inevitable.. and i think its even gonna be much better than captain america civil war..
No
Are you on drugs, he is horrible actor and can only play the Nerd because he is one
Kostas Zeimpekis Lets see
The guy that played lex luthor on smallville play him the best
I love this guy!
I like his new look. He finally looks more like his age.
I heard him talk in the Teaser and he sounded like people will dislike him in the movie. He still sounds like Jesse Eisenberg. He should try to at least talk a bit deeper. It would have been better to cast someone else but people also said that about Heath Ledger. The picture alone will not convince me. Anyone can look angry. I will give him the benefit of doubt. We'll see
I'm excited to see what he does with Lex
taking from his behavior i think he is a very stressful guy...also great actor!
have too see the movie too judge his luthor i would have said byan cranston but i guess they wanted him younger
Jesse was awesome as let need more of this
I think he should have gone for a more the social network vibe for lex Luthor
I love how anxious he is
So one guy was like: Cast Bryan Cranston!!!!!!
And the next guy was like: Heisenberg? Great idea- Cast Heisenberg!!!!!!!
Final guy: Eisenberg? Okay...
all kidding aside, I have nothing against jessie as lex and hope he does very well!
He did not do well
+greenclonetrooper1004 I think he did do very well c:
Jerry Tomas Agreed
No, badly miscast, he's simply incapable of being menacing or intinidating, the only roles he's good at r those with personalities similar to his, i.e quirky, awkward intelligent. Very little range just being honest
Juanito Alimaña he played an insane lex luthor fine.
Lex Luther is a confident guy and one who exudes power hope this guy isn't a bumbling wreck like in this interview as Lex or its going to be a big let down. He needs to have a bigger voice too
Wayne Prezzler I believe that's why it's called acting. Could totally be wrong though
dub544 Well in every movie I've seen the guy in he acts like he does here. In all his film he's like a awkward gibbering dude he's not a guy who exudes power and control hope I'm wrong like most folk were about Ledger been the Joker.
Are you kidding me? Have you seen The Social Network? I think he was cast cause of that movie. He is an arrogant genius in it, which we all know its the same as Lex
GabeCal As I've stated I hope I'm wrong and yes I have seen that movie where he played a cocky awkward geek. He can pull it off hut he needs to be different to anything he's ever played before like Ledger was with the Joker he blew everyone away
I don't get why people doesn't see how his voice fit as lex. IMO his voice is kind of like a smart-ass so being lex and having superman as your enemy it seems fitting for me
I'm excited by the idea that Eisenberg's Luthor will be crazier than a bag of snakes.
Hackman & Spacey were awesome, but they were pretty standard, megalomaniacal villains, and I want Eisenberg to be really transgressive. In other words, whether you love him or hate him, this Luthor definitely won't be forgettable.
we need to remember he played earth 3 lex, the crazy dude that he did perfectly.
+DeathCreationist A quick trip to Wikipedia makes me wanna ask: "So when did he scream Mazahs?!" That Lex Luthor has super power, this one is just a below average lucky fruity nerd full of bi-sexual tension when talking to anyone in private.
darkrood ?
+DeathCreationist Could you please direct me to the link. Because I am not comic book expert, and none of my friends recognize this Lex.
it is the comic book superman birthright in which he portrays perfectly
I met this guy at an airport in Grand Rapids...he is kind of awkward. Really short. But Jason Segal was talking to himself in the bathroom...kind of a good day
He actually looks more his age here. But that voice still makes him seem younger.
He is brilliant as Lex Luther !!!
CC kevin spacey is the best lex luthor
Don't underestimate Eisenberg. He is literally obsessive in getting the characters right. I think he will be brilliant.
Lex Luthor wanted superman to kill batman so that superman could save his mom. superman wanted to not do it and team up with batman, but batman wouldn't do it and tried to kill superman because he had a dream that the flash told him that superman would turn bad. but yeah batman was so badass he can destroy superman if he wanted to.
You can hear him in the trailer
Mr Dickhead is in a right mood this time :)
Mad max gonna have the teaser to B vs S
You can’t get to 500 million friends without making a few enemies...
The Social Network .
I just don't understand why Michael Rosenbaum isn't playing Lex Luthor in the movie. I can't believe anyone else could pull it off.
kevin lorthe nothing lasts forever.
+kevin lorthe because hollywood bosses are idiots
everyone says bryan cranston should have played luthor. I think jesse eisenberg will be a good lex luthor. if tjey didnt choose him (if he was a little taller) if like to see dean norris play him
Jesse Eisenberg is a stud
wow that went sad really fast....not often you actually hear celebrities admit to depression.
Yes, that's right
Omg I miss his curls!!
something draws me to it, idk.
He's the best choice for Lex Luthor tbh. Either him or Kevin O'Leary... off topic tho, what if Jared Leto was Tim Drake and the real joker was Luke Evans
