Anxiety is like fire. It can either ignite a flame of momentum to get you going in life, or it can burn you to the ground. You have to choose daily though, to not allow it to do the latter.

He’s the kind of guy people prejudge to their detriment. He’s not overly charismatic, laughing, joking… smiling. Therefore, he must be a stiff or a jerk. Nope. I’d love to know him, work for him, or be a friend. Listen to how he speaks about Kieran and Julianne. He’s so complimentary, supportive and is the type of guy who makes others shine. Oh yeah, he’s also incredibly talented. Love this personality and I’m a fan.

He has great ideas, but the way he articulates them makes me think that he has ready answers for all the typical 30 questions that people constantly think about, and he never challenges these. I suspect that most of the Hollywood has the same answers. I believe this tendency is a deep dark hole for American and global society. Ppl with Jesse's influence could contribute so much more than just "ideas of walls", don't you think? They could focus on *technologies*, which encompass scientific progress and communication by the word's definition. Who is perpetuating this narrow mindset that seems to dominate the world's creative landscape?

I recently had a really A-type boss who was overly anxious, cared about what others thought and jumped at shadows. But on day 1, he asked me the most amazing two questions: "how do you like to work" and "how do you learn". I've used those ever since. Brilliant.

He’s saying that on the surface leaders may seem highly charismatic and outgoing, but deep down they may be anxious just like you. But unlike you, they know how to harness their strengths and tamp down their weaknesses to their advantage, e.g. we’re all similar at baseline; leadership is just learned. That’s my take at least.

I have GAD and this is fascinating! So it really is a superpower in that because I have thought of every scenario, I am VERY prepared at work and I'm able to keep others on task. I can't speak for him, but the points in which Jesse seems disoriented or realizes he may be off task remind me of GAD brain I get. Since some areas of the brain are overactive and sympathetic nervous system activation means blood increases to organs and executive functioning is decreased, it can mess with memory. That's really in more severe moments or "flare ups." There's also an interesting scenario where memories can be recorded in a different version of reality - more hostile if you may be in a state of anxiety. It's good to have a trusted colleague to check in with to see if you'd committed a more hostile version of reality to memory than what actually happened. Learning about anxiety and how it affects the brain/body is very freeing to take off some of the blame of some symptoms that cannot be helped.
Creativity is AMAZING for those with GAD because expression feels like a release of pent up energy. And I do think those with an anxiety disorder often have more empathy which, in the right workplace, can mean MUCH better leadership. The candid-ness I see in Jesse also is something I experience and it works to my advantage when people see me as a non-judgmental person who will not get upset with them if they tell me what's going on with them.
Anxiety disorders were often born out of a necessary reason to cope. They CAN serve us well, but control and knowing how it personally affects you is important. Jesse really seems to have an understanding of his own circumstance and that's the best place to be at!

I started deeply looking into meditation as someone who struggles with a constantly wandering mind since early university days. Some days are easy but most days are incredibly hard to be present constantly, especially as a student. Mindfulness has genuinely helped me become a better person and more importantly actively try to be a mindful person.

I think that's especially true if you can accept the anxiety as part of the process, as the thing that keeps you focused and gives you the energy to make things better. Anxiety is after all a state of energy in the body and the mind has some, or even a lot of power to create a narrative on what that energy is for.

While I think there is definitely something to reframing your anxieties productively, I've found one of the best motivators to be deep love and passion. Anxieties can wane and diminish when you get better at your work, but love is consistent. To renew lost anxieties, artists push themselves to new heights to feel scared \again, while loving the art you produce naturally demands the best you can bring at every stage.

    • @djl3009

Interesting. I wonder if deep love and passion is more accurately describe as inspiration rather than motivation. Motivation does seem to fit best within the context of anxiety, lack of purpose and may be even depression. On the other hand, inspiration does seem to be a better fit to passion and love. I sometimes wonder if it is intrinsically human to motivate ourselves and others? I also wonder if inspiration implies a touch of the divine in it? Inspiration = in spirit?

One of Gifts about Anxiety is that you can feel things and sense things the average person cannot sense. We can feel people's vibes and when we enter a room we can feel the energy of the room. It protects us from false people and gives us an advantage over other's. We know who is for us or who is against us. Anxiety can be channeled to be more productive and outwork other's. Energy is A Form of energy and can be channeled. However I'm a leader and by leader I mean a leader of my own self. I never choose to follow another man and can think for myself that's why I don't do cliques or tribes or political parties and I've always marched to the drum of my own beat. If you do this, you will face must envy and face much persecution. It's so worth it!! You attract both lover's and haters and one must cultivate towards those who Love you and gaslight those who hate you lol... One of my parents was a narcissist so II use that to my advantage to get into my enemies heads. I'm not a narcissist btw but you have to use it sometimes and trigger those who trigger you.

I’ve never been able to put this or these thoughts in my head into words. For the last year or so I have noticed my anxiety seems to help me think at a much faster pace than most. Due to fear of being beat, or not doing as great as I know I can do, not being able to be noticed etc etc.

Hearing that a successful & handsome actor feels anxiety the same as an average person like myself is somehow very helpful

Listening to this guy makes me realise my own anxiety and promotes me to use it farther than suppress it with useless depressive thought precesses. Thanks big think.
