623 GSI is a lovely car, and the colour is superb for a Rover. It really looks great. And what cracking condition 👏 well done to previous owners

Very nice, the 600 series seems to be very under rated, but nearly all have disappeared from our roads.

Nice Rover! Probably supplied by Waveney Rover at Lowestoft when it was new - also, that box in the boot is very similar to what I make at work. Might even be one of mine 😂

Yep, always maintained that the 600 is THE best post 80's rover ever built. Way better than the 75 in many ways, and, the 600 still looks the part in all the modern junk today.

As a Rover 75 driver I can say that the 600 series is the only other Rover I’ve seriously considering owning & this is the specification I’d want. I like the brand in general but it’s always the MkI 75’s I default too but I’ve always had a soft spot for the 600.

I drove a Rover 75 diesel for 300k miles as a taxi. Always used genuine Rover parts, serviced it regularly and it was a good car. The engine was as sweet at 300k as it was when it was new. However you are absolutely right. The suspension was replaced many times during my ownership - I lost count but there was hardly a time when something wasn't rattling or knocking.

Same 'phase 2' facelift and colour as my old 620ti. These were and remain beautiful cars. Oddly, I've seen quite a few 600s lately, it's nice to see them still about! Sadly, the more powerful 623 and ti models are a rarity these days. 25 years old... Jesus H. Corbett, when did that happen?!

My dad had a nightfire red 623 iS which he had the fabric trim from the 1/2 leather seats changed to leather in red to match the car. It was a great car to drive with the manual gearbox & 2.3 engine. I often wonder what happened to that car after he traded it in against his 825 Sterling.

Even base-model 618i's look nice in this White Gold - a cut above a same-age BMW 318 non-SE. I would imagine many executives would be driving T-plate Rover 623's well-into the 2000's as well - Winston Davies was still quite a new car in 2001. Harry Secombe the Nightfire Red 620i has a slightly fruitier-sounding engine so may have been tuned up at one point.

They were shockingly capable cars, I miss my old ti very much. R139DGC gone but not forgotten.
Sad end to a well preserved and much loved car (it got plundered for its engine and gearbox for a ZR conversion some months after I sold it according to rumour).

And also turns out Honda liked the Rover diesel engine so much they used it in the Accord.

Wasn't the under-stated, scorching, 620Ti a development of the MG Maestro Turbo engine? I think British Racing was the colour to have on the Ti.

  • @windymiller5058

This video has confused me immensely. I quite like the Rover 600, I assumed I would like one like this the most. Biggest engine, automatic, squashy leather seats, seems to be the most Rovery Rover of them all. I also thought the 620Ti would be good, but not quite as Rovery which isn't necessarily a bad thing. I think one of the issues that led to Rover's demise was it was too Rovery so perhaps a non Rovery Rover would be a good Rover. Anyway, I didn't know which of these two 600s I would prefer and it kept me awake at night and I had no faith that I could ever resolve this dilemma. Then along comes an angel in a Fruit of the Loom t shirt and long hair with the answer. The Ti is for men with moustaches who play snooker. But it's not quite that simple. I used to like to play snooker, not because I was any good because I wasn't, I think my highest break was 12. I liked the social aspect, a few of us would go to the dark, dingy snooker room and drink beer and be bad at snooker and talk to the shady low level gangsters for a couple of hours and I loved it. I didn't have a moustache though, I was clean shaven, my face was like a new born's bottom. Now I'm older I do have a moustache, as part of the complete face hair set though which I don't know if that disqualifies me from being moustachioed and I haven't played snooker for probably 20 years. So I used to go to play snooker but I wouldn't say I'm able to 'play' snooker to any degree of competence, I have a moustache, albeit as part of a more comprehensive face hair package, and I would prefer this lazy Rovery Rover to the less Rovery Ti meaning that not only have I ruined your analogy, I'm also responsible for the death of Rover as a brand. Weirdly though, the object of my desire is a Saab 900 at the moment and I would like the full on, bodykitted Turbo 16S in 3 door guise, not a four door GL. So although it means I'm perhaps blameless in Saab's demise it confuses me as I want a lazy car like this, and a sporty car like the Ti, but as a Saab and not a Ti. And I can't have both because I don't use the car I already have very much any more. Luckily you passed a shop full of motorbikes which has restored some certainty to this uncertain existence. I would like to go and play snooker I think, but my local snooker hall is partially demolished. Those developers jumped the gun and started pulling down a listed building without permission so now its future looks bleak. They have a painting of Jimmy White on the facade. That's still there and it looks terrifying. Like Jimmy has had a terrible accident. Peace.

Windsor Davies - what a great character. I discovered that his sidekick, Don Estelle, reportedly lived not far from here so I set about with the idea of booking him to sing at a local venue. It turned out I was a bit late as he had sadly died a couple of years previously! 🙁
Which was the ultimate Rover? To my mind, for all its virtues, the 600 doesn't look like a Rover. In fact I think its somewhat indistinct. Based on Rovery looks, I'd say P4, P5 or P6 . I do think the earlier 75 were good looking cars. 200/400, 25 and 45 were all great cars, but were they 'proper' Rovers? Must be a potential video or two weighing all up!🤔
