    CORRECTION: I forgot to mention the tail. To prevent an updraft, or the jacket rising up, exposing your back, they tail is a bit longer than the rest of the jacket. I personally don't need that, but it's not enough to bother me, so I think it's okay.

      You really had me laughing when you said you're skinny at 5' 9" / 180 #, when I'm 6' / 140 #.
      Seriously, I always go out of my way to find made in USA products.
      Feedback for Defense Mechanisms, inside pockets, especially zippered, are a big plus (wallet, important documents, etc).
      Edit, checked DM's website. The pants are now on my radar.

    I don't get how $215 is dang affordable but okay.

      Considering a Wild things Active flex or similar issued loft jacket like something from massif goes for around 750. So 250ish is affordable.

      If you walk into REI or Eddie Bauer you will pay $215 for a very average down jacket when it’s not on sale, and it’s made in Bangladesh.
      This is not Wal-Mart pricing because this is not Walmart quality
      To do anything more than survive you have to have a household income of 125K bare minimum today.
      More in more expensive places to live .
      This video is likely coming from the mindset of no less than 100 K household income.

      I bought mine last year on Black Friday and bought one for my wife this Black Friday. Haven't got my wife's yet cause it's hand made. I've been wearing mine for a year. Its definitely worth the hype. Best jacket I've ever owned. Super light and super warm. I got my wife's for $170 shipped with all the discounts. Expensive, but i promise it's worth every penny.

    I actually ordered one of these jackets a few months ago on your recommendation then. Its my favorite jacket to keep me warm here in NM. I originally ordered the medium as well, but found that the sleeves were too tight, as you said. Customer service was great. After contacting them, I simply sent the medium back and they built the large for me with no problems. Highly recommend this jacket!

    I like that it's form fitting, in theory one could wear it when moving around and put on a thicker jacket or a Swagman when not moving. The reason I like hoods is that it redirects the heat rising from my back into my neck and head, so I sometimes wear 3 hoods at the same time.

    This would be closer to a level 3 replacement but insulation is never just black and white in usage.

    That’s an awesome jacket. Definitely agree with your view on the inner pockets. Maybe even a thinner deep one for a thermos or water bottle on the inside as well. Also through my limited experience and what I’ve heard, double zippers would also be a nice addition. Thanks Randall for the great video as always. Also, that’s a pretty dope tab!

    One of only five channels i subscribe. Thanks for no fluff, get it done style. Been using a pack you tested a few years ago, June will be a year. So far its been steller accept a but small for winter trips.
    Been training with weighted vests and rucking for 35yrs. When you do your fitness series can you explain how or why rucking stress amplifies all other training such as cardio, weights, and self-weight (pullups/pushups)? Its the secret weapon to stay fit for most of my life. You have a good handle on explaining and may help a lot of people feel that missing link. Thanks from PA Appalachians.

    I'm sold! Enlightened Equipment is awesome! I've been rocking their 20 degree enigma apex for over 5 years now and it's my go to for backpacking. This jacket is basically a heavier duty version of their Torrid. The only question now is...full zip, or pullover?

    The Helicon-Tex Level 7 seems to be more along the lines of your military marshmallow jacket. You may recall, I had it with me at your place.

    As a person who rides a motorcycle in the winter up here in the north east no hood or removable hood are the only things I'll buy. TBH anyone riding any ATV or motorcycle shouldn't have an attached hood on for obvious reasons

      Columbia's omniheat jackets are pretty unbelievable for straight up warmth. Especially when you're moving, that omniheat liner really does work. Not tactical though but I use it as my heavy insulate layer hunting.

    Brooklyn Armed Forces makes a vest version of the Level 7 parka, similar to the vest of the PCU system. Not official issue but supposedly identical. $130. For the temps I see (10 deg F at the coldest, I'm hoping it will be all of the L7 stuff I'll need, over the L5's and good insulating layers.

    Love that this is made in the USA. If you wound up with a large when you normally wear small reg I guess my fat ass would need a 3XL. I wear 2XL in a M65 Field Jacket and the modern issue ECWCS gear and it’s snug. 2XL is perfect for me in the issue Polar Fleece jackets that you don’t really like in your previous video. I’d hate to have to experiment with made to order gear as a mistake on my part could get expensive. Someone would be getting great gifts due to my error.

    • @bodstrup
      @bodstrup Рік тому +1

      @@GruntProof Sure, and layer classification is irrelevant, as long as you use it right. However, if insulation thickness is anything like the Atom LT - and given the polartec fleece panels - it looked more like a mid-layer than a cold weather outer layer to me -but then again useful as an outerl ayer in cool but not cold conditions.
      The customization is awesome, If they were able to vary the insulation amount it would be even better.

    1. Okay, we can argue the Wikipedia "Name and etymology" paragraph all day. It even mildly argues that Sierra Nevadas is correct too. Not worth spending too much time on.
    2. For your number 2 question, I subscribed to you to learn some new techniques or improve upon what I know with regards to military issues. I've never been in the military but I have been outdoors in challenging scenarios for many years. I've gotten too lazy to update my blog SunToTheNorth at Blogspotbut you can see some of it there . I've engaged in all sorts of things; mountain climbing, canyoneering, distance hiking, overlanding, mine exploration and so on. You have a unique trove of military related skills I could learn from and I'm not a 'bot who needs to be entertained.
    I don't see any answers to my two main questions where looking inward at why no one goes to Rumble could be a way to help boost the views there or give up on the venue. It was honest feedback so react or over-react to it however is productive to you. I tried to help because you asked but if it isn't worth the time for us I'll leave it be. Sort of a cheap shot that you blocked my comments in the other thread.

    • @GruntProof
      @GruntProof  Рік тому

      I just took the post down. I appreciate the feedback and honestly, looking inward is all I do. Not sure why I tried rumble, but it does seem even harder than youtube to get anyone to see your stuff. Either way I see it as diversification, like with investing. So I'll keep putting stuff there in the event youtube disappears or I get completely booted. I pretty much do what I want on here, which is pretty varied, so of course I won't please everyone.
