  • It’s hard to compete with the view from The Bolder, outside Stavanger, part of our Norway’s best hotels & Airbnb series. The Bolder Skylodge is a unique retreat located on a cliff’s edge overlooking Lyse Fjord. The hotel (partially designed by Vipp, a Danish maker of cool things) is made up of two types of cabins - Star Lodges and Sky Lodges, plus the even more luxe grand lodge. The Star Lodges were designed by Norwegian studio Snøhetta in cooperation with: homeward brand Vipp, the Norwegian furniture company Eikund, and Expo Nova, a Norwegian furniture and lighting company. The lodges are scattered across the natural setting, and the designers and owner get extra points for making these drool-worthy cabins light on the land. The interiors beautifully blend in with the surroundings, and all cabins have complete kitchens, featuring some of Norway’s worst coffee (sorry, but got to keep it real).

The Swank Guide is supported by you. Our recommendations are 100% unbiased; we choose what we think is best. We’ve partnered with Booking.com because that ensures we can get you the lowest price. In most cases, you also have ample time to cancel.
Our goal is to save you time by finding the best hotels and experiences for you, and eliminate the stress of paying for something before you understand if it’s right for you. We work with total editorial independence. That means nothing appears in our videos as a recommendation unless we’ve tried it and loved it. These are the hotels and activities we choose for ourselves and recommend to our family and friends.
We strive to be the most trusted, the most transparent, boutique hotel recommendation service…. ever. If you choose to use our link to book a hotel, you are supporting our work. You can go around us - it won’t save you any money. This hotel commission fee supports us as we travel the world looking for the best places. Running a business costs money, and this is how we cover most of our expenses.
We curate unusual, independent, and sustainable boutique hotel experiences. We’re a small team of 3.5 people - for now. Our founder Don is an American who’s lived about half his life overseas and has traveled to over 60 countries - always looking for that perfect hotel, and often being disappointed. Before starting Swank, Don worked as an entrepreneur in the clean energy space, and then sustainable housing - one of the reasons sustainability is in our DNA.

This is a very cool and unique hotel. Would love to do a similar Norway trip one of these days. One thing struck me in this room, however, which is that it looks like for the two people sharing the bed the person closest to the far window has to climb over their bedmate to exit the bed. That's a bummer. I could see going to the bathroom overnight being annoying.

I dont put in prices b/c it can vary wildly by season, demand and room type... thats' why I uase the relative $$$$$ rating system comparing it to other NOrway hotels.
