My father in 1930 when he was 12 made a .22 pearl handle revolver out of a piece of a railroad track.
Good tooling, hard hitting hammer, and experience. I have two powerhammers in my shop. Doesn’t matter where you are. The three ingredients are universal. Good work!!
Hardened edge no temper. Breaks twig nicely though.
It would temper from the residual heat away from the edge.
At 5:30 they temper the blade
@@bobdoughnut1585 that’s a quench- creates martensite. The temper is intended to relieve stress within the brittle hard steel.
Much respect for these guys using what's available to them to generate an income for them and or their families

@@jerrybigrig9475 Yep, it's called the "safety squint". I use it all the time in my cabinet shop...
If that wheel came apart, I'm not sure even a face shield would protect him.
i now work 15 years in the production of steel with all kinds of big ass machinery around me. but i still have great respect when it comes to fast spinning machines and i really don't know how so many people can just ignore that danger.
@@meverick666 I think a lot has to do with feeding one's family. deal with it or go hungry. And maybe they don't know any other way.
@@AffordBindEquipment oh i mean no disrespect for these workers, they probably have not much of a choice. I was just pointing out that a lot of people seem to underestimate the danger of fast spinning things.

Thats not a splitting axe! Head is too thin,but could be used to split kindling? Just saying😆😆👍
Didn’t seem like much of a quench and very shallow too. Might only be hardened to a depth of 1/2”.
@@trappenweisseguy27 that would probably be fine. Axes are generally medium carbon steel and a heat treatment is not essential

а что в РФии мешает так же, гаражей нет, рельс нет, нет должной политики глаз на жопу не натягивать, у нас только торговать, и рельсы в лом пилить. А люди вон из вторички без переплавки херачат, товары народного потребления.

Their skill and ingenuity at forging the head was neat but their honing and handle making skills were terrible. I hope that wasn't the finished product.
