Hi Fiona, I want to thank you for your tutorials. Not only because of what I have learnt from you but for a very special reason. My much loved dog died last week and making your kaleidoscopes takes for me, a lot of concentration. They have helped me immensely in dealing with my grief because they take my attention away from everything else. You are talented and have shared your gift with us polymer clay addicts. So Thank you. Kate
Oh Kate I am so sorry to hear of your loss, I know so well what it is like, and losing them is so hard. I am glad that the video's help, even a little bit, Sending virtual hugs.
I think you are the most amazing teacher I have ever seen and I mean it from the bottom of my heart Miss Fiona! I havent set my fingers into the clay but i am positive i can do this and that is only because of you and your teaching skills.. Much love from Buffalo, NY
I'm always so happy to see you've released another video. You explain every step. I'm also glad you let beginners know they can skip certain steps without it affecting the outcome negatively.
Gorgeous and worth the investment of time, the finished pieces are fabulous. All those different variations ❤❤❤. I have to say you are the most patient teacher of PC. Sometimes content creators want to keep their tutorials short so they don't explain for newbies to understand which is frustrating. Thank you for taking the time and showing how to achieve the same results with and without the 'fancy' tools e.g. Pasta Machine. I got one (a Mont Marte brand from our local PNA craft supply store) they are pricey here in South Africa 😢 (like everything creative that is imported). Now that I'm in between work projects, I will gather my tools and materials to practice.
So great to hear from you today!!! It really is a sweet looking pendant!! I haven't done any clay work for about year now, back to painting acrylic paintings, so it was fun to watch this today!
First - Gorgeous pendant, love the colors and design. You make it look so easy that anyone can do it. Second - I really appreciate how very well you explain every detail. A lot of crafters on here don't even use audio so you're left to guess some of the instructions. I actually just watched a bracelet video that left me with lot's of questions. I also appreciate that you suggest alternative ways to do things. Thank you so much.
Thanks so much Connie - yes I want people to actually be able to make what I show, and while I get some criticism that I am too slow or talk too much 😂 having comments like this make it worth while, so thanks so much for letting me know it works for you 🙂
At 34:25 & 37:52, when you put the pieces together i see a cartoon image of a face. Not sure if they're good or evil though. Turns out that the way you cut the pendant, he shows up at the top. 😆 Once again, absolutely lovely design. You never fall to impress me.
Love this whole process :) how long in 'real time' did this take from start to finish please Fiona? Love that bowl ... *toddles off to watch the video* Did you or will you make earrings to go with that pendant and did you put the Silver on the back of it? Thank you for taking the time to make these, I very much appreciate the work involved.
No idea in real time, as of course it all slows down when I am making a video, as I have to think about angles etc ;) It was about 3 hours worth of filming, with stops for baking, cooling etc so that gives you a rough idea. I added silver to the bottom edge, under the plait on the back, but not the whole back, and no, I haven't made any earring from it as yet. I am snowed under getting ready for my big yearly art show, so am not doing anything else at the moment. Not quite sure how I managed to fit this video tut in, but thought if I didn't do it now, it wouldn't get done till after October 11th ;) Thanks kerry :)
I sometimes get a very small amount of doming if I have a very thick piece of clay, and have am therefore stretching the cling film more than usual to get it down over the edges. For me this is not generally a problem as I am usually not cutting on where I am going to bake, so releasing the cut piece allows the clay to flatten again. Try not stretching the cling film so tight. It is probably that the force of the film pulling over the edge causes the clay to pull in towards the middle and pull up the outer edges. It may also be as simple as the film you are using may be a thicker, stronger film than the one I use. I have found from experience that the cheaper film reacts less with clay than the more expensive ones, and of course the cheaper ones are probably thinner so will have less strength to pull the edges of the clay up. Once you have released your piece after cutting it, and placed it on a dome to bake, then you should be able to even out any lower middle areas. I hope that helps? :)
Once they are flat and together, you have two main options. 1 carefully roll /press down and over the slices to gradually lower the thicker slice till it is the same height as the others - you will get a slight distortion/bulging of the pattern, but it is a quick remedy. 2 VERY carefully shave off a bit of the thick slice using your polymer clay blade. this takes a bit of practice, so is best practiced on some scrap clay first ;) I hope one of those suggestions help :)

Whenever I put the cling film on my pieces & cut them out, I get a lower place in the middle, not a dome. How do I prevent this?

how do i remedy if my slices of cane are in different thickness?
