As a Mexican I’m very happy that Canada didnt let a conmebol team win the concacaf gold cup. Colombians must’ve thought this was going to be an easy win and they would’ve been pretty snobbish if they won the gold cup. The South Americans would have mocked us I know they would have. Canada defended our North American honor. It was a win for not only Canada but for the rest of the concacaf and not allow the gold cup to leave the North American continent.
you are absolutely right. I do some little research and I found that there has never been any none concaf team win the gold cup. although the gold cup invites a lot of other continental teams to play every time. and mexico even defend the champions two times from the brazil team
I was at the Gold Cup Final that year. My friends and I bought tickets as soon as they went on sale we assumed that it would be a USA vs. Mexico final. We went and it poured down rain the entire game, we all got soaked, but it was a great game. All of us got sick.
I'm not sure about soon.. It's not like a club team where you can buy players Canada has to grow there players... I'd say at least 30 more years before they can rival USA and Mexico 15 to be a decent side
Just watched this game and what a game it was,a must for all Canadian soccer fans, commercials are awsome too, what a game spectacular,go Canada go 2022 WC
Bien por Canada, una gran sorpresa en el 2000. La selección canadiense puede ganar las copas que quiera, si se comprometen y le dedican tiempo al soccer como lo hacen con otros deportes. ¡Éxito Canadá!
Very interesting to watch this especially to see where they are at on the CONCACAF standing for the 2022 Qatar World Cup. All that hard work is finally paying off! Also that’s Steve Nash’s brother?!!!
Canada's MNT finest moment, orchestrated by our best ever head coach Holger Osieck. Yes yes, my Aussie friends, I know lol But Holger took us to new heights. But then like usual Bob Lenarduzzi and his cronyism forced Holger out. I think he installed Dale freakon Mitchell at some point afterward even...new lows. Lenarduzzi is also pretty much responsible dor driving Owen Hargreaves to end up playing for England instead of getting his commitment by capping him as a teenager, which Owen actually wanted. The sooner the over-revered "Class of '86" are away from all positions of power over yhe men's nat'l team the better
The top three youth sports in Canada are soccer, basketball, and ice hockey. There is a huge growth of players in basketball that it could be likely that they could even get a medal for the next Olympic Games. Ice Hockey has always been extremely popular in Canada and have got gold in the last 3 of the 5 Winter Olympic Games. The problem with soccer in Canada was a lack of soccer teams in Canada since the old Canadian Soccer League folded in the mid-1990's. It is much better now than in the early 2000's, but there still is need for improvement. In my opinion, Canada still needs more professional (Canada has 3 right now) and semi-professional (Canada has two right now) teams. That being said, the players being brought up in their semi-professional and professional teams in Canada will more likely be at a much higher level than the players playing for the Canadian men's national team now.
Canada would improve in soccer when they start teaching kids in playgrounds and after school that soccer is meant to be competitive and not for the sake of participation. You play to win!
shout out to them for keeping Colombia from winning the gold cup, the following year Colombia won the copa america over mexico, it would of been funny to see mexico representing concacaf to win a conmebol tournemont
John Chakkour - that would require lots of bizarre events to happen at more or less the same time. Personally, I suspect it would be accompanied by other portents of the impending armageddon: locusts, Four Horsemen, etc... (So, yeah, I _might_ believe it when it happens...)
South America's Copa America invites Mexico and Costa Rica every tournament though. CONCACAF stopped the invites though but both North and South America are joining to have the 2016 Copa America.
jason! I was there they were just letting anyone into the stadium and we got to sit any where. But it was pouring down rain, so bad the first row was completely flooded.
There's far more support now in Canada than back then with Toronto, Vancouver, and Montreal all having MLS teams. 2 years ago, a World Cup qualifier against Mexico had over 50,000 in attendance for example.
obviously the producer asked him to. (you can hear him talking under the v/o...not a particularly candid clip). Sure, he became a footballer, but before he made inroads with Tottenham Hotspur and was a mainstay on the Canadian Nat'l side, he was an excellent basketball player. Not too many guys his size could dunk...and this guy could reverse jam in high school. I believe he played University level basketball (U of Winnipeg I think) before he gave it up to commit to soccer full time. Regardless - great to see this commentary Marty - well done - glad to stumble upon this. That was a fantastic tournament...I didn't know the part about the coin flip....awesome!!!
I'm glad that Canada won something in their soccer history good job Canada 👏🇨🇦
and now they r going to the world cup haha

I watched nearly every minute of this tournament back in 2000. Stunning victory. Jason DeVos was a beast on defense.
One of Canada's shining moments in the beautiful game .

I'm not sure about soon.. It's not like a club team where you can buy players Canada has to grow there players... I'd say at least 30 more years before they can rival USA and Mexico 15 to be a decent side

TheFidelRF Yeah he played for Canada.
I wonder what Martin thinks of Canada now!
Love you my favourite and peaceful country of the world
Very interesting to watch this especially to see where they are at on the CONCACAF standing for the 2022 Qatar World Cup. All that hard work is finally paying off!
Also that’s Steve Nash’s brother?!!!
Yes. He was just recently hired as manager as York United, a Canadian Premier League club.
Im Colombian and I didn't watch the final but my dad said that the Colombians thought they were gonna win it all since they already beat the USA.
The future for Canada now is gonna be one of the greatest ones to look out for!
A glorious victory for Canada!!!!
Canada will win the World Cup before England.
Mark these words!
😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂 England has a cup already so what you wrote there makes no sense.

CONCACAF final.
If play Mexico, sold out, if play team like Canada, just 7.000.
Fast forward to 2021 and they might have a chance to win a final if they beat Mexico💯
Good luck to Canada 2015 Gold Cup !

I was at the game it was pouring down rain all day. That’s what kept the crowd away, the rain was so bad the first row was completely flooded.

Mexico can't win in conmebol, the refeering there is awfluly localistic.
Well done Canada soon will become a Republic. The Beautiful Guatemala must recover every metre of its territory of Belice
A beautiful moment for our guys - alas, a fleeting one, and one unlikely to be repeated anytime soon.

Paul Madryga We shouldn't lose hope.
John Chakkour : Of course we shouldn't, and I'll keep cheering for them for as long as they stay in contention. But I'm also inclined to be realistic.
this year my man

Well done Canada
Soccer is gaining popularity in Canada so in a decade or so they might have a decent chance to get to the World Cup
Try now...look at the CONCACAF table...
