This is probably one of the best interviews I've ran across with the Daniels. So much passion about filmmaking being discussed, by both these surprisingly down-to-earth directors as well as the interviewer. If you're the one who did this video, excellent job! 👍
Well said. Incredible that it was Daniel Kwan's mom and a fortune teller who predicted his future though he started off in business school instead of his destiny of film school and story-telling
In essence this movie is a great example of why cinema should exist.. the intertwining of scifi and tangible emotion, the sheer experiential chaos of the visuals makes it one of the most engaging expressions in the medium of film in recent memory.
Finally! I have watched like EVERY reaction to this movie but you are the only one who saw thru the awesome ridiculousness of the hot dog universe to the heart of it. Honestly think if she hadn't experienced that universe, everything would have ended badly for Evelyn. Finds herself in a relationship with a woman she fears and dislikes in a surreal situation. Learning to love ans accept it is what helped her to kearn and accept everything else. In my opinion. Also i loved the couple of scenes with Scheinert, great acting and in my opinion, adorably hot. Also, shout out to a couple of side characters. Becky was done so well. I fell in love with the character from the way she asked 'what did he say?' after gong gong said girlfriend. So sweet! Also the one security guard, damn good acting. I laugh out loud everytime i hear 'Oh on, Craig! F*ck!'
Just started this. "Swiss Army Man" one of the greatest films ever. Always try to show it to people. The opening credit sequence always stuns the hell out of people. From that point you're either in or out 😂
I didn’t get Swiss Army Man. It might have lost me early on and I just gave up on it. With your recommendation I will rewatch and give it another chance.
Hello from Winnipeg, nice to hear Matt Hannam's name being mentioned :) I know that he worked with the Daniels on "Swiss Army Men" and so glad for his success, as he such a wonderfully talented fellow. Loved "Everything Everywhere all at once" This was such a nice treat to listen to this podcast! Alex your podcast is great and criminally underrated shared it around Social Media and always looking forward to future episodes!
Watched EEAAO at a packed theater on the opening weekend was a highlight of movie going experiences for me in recent years. Little did I know what came after is such unexpected joyful journey following all these wonderful interviews of the Daniels. Just want to say I'm so thankful for all the interviewers/ hosts for their great questions allow us to get into the beautiful creative minds of the Daniels.
Love this movie recently rewatched it and went down a UA-cam rabbit hole come across this video not my next level soul guy hit that subscribe so fast. Spirit is so cool 😍🥰
@@RetroPowered budgets clearly don’t matter with the Daniels. They’ve got the creative and originality that needs to be preserved for their own success. Their work is a breath of fresh air for Hollywood and I hope they change the way corporate studios work.
@@samlui3591 They have shown independents what is possible. Swiss army man was only a couple million, EEAAO was 25. Maybe they stay in that range, but I think it will be cool to let their creativity run wild on 50 mill at least once.
You talked about during the interview how hard it must have been to get funding for their wacky concepts. Can someone go over about what percentage of that budget would go to the cast & crew? Since they have a couple of veteran actors in Michelle Yeoh and Jamie Lee Curtis, would that increase the payroll quite a bit? And would the directors earn royalties as well as the actors? Thanks.
There are different ways in which actors are compensated for a film. It all depends on what they negotiate. They can get paid upfront and/or get a percentage of the money the movie makes. The salaries of the actors usually is figured out before the budget is finalized although they usuallyhaveaballpark number when negotions begin. But that's not a hard and fast rule. It depends on the movie, the studio, investors, etc.
Okay I don't get it. On one hand we have movies that don't make 10K in the indie world off 100k but then you get a 4 million dollar movie and make 5.8 millon. So why is there no 100K movies making 5 million? Hmm....how?
couldn't help but feel put off by daniel on the righs comments about "breaking into the industry", kind of felt a "your not good enough for this industry" vibe.
The chemistry between the interviewer & the Daniels, make this interview so much better

This movie is so uniquely good that I’m sad I’ll never see a movie as unique and good

Daniel Kwan is so vulnerable and thoughtful omg idk why I’m blown away bc that’s why I loved his movie omg
hearing all the things that had to go right in order to get EEAAO makes me genuinely happy to be in this universe

Watch it 2x. I was overwhelmed the first watch but it was a revelation the second. And every since!
Daniel Kwan's 3 favourite films made me love him even more😆

Absolutely fabulous interview! Great questions! Great answers! Thank you for being a fantastic host and interviewer!!
This is inspiring. Keep up the good work!
Thank you! Will do!
what a fucking treat of an interview this is!!!
Alex is hitting it out of the park with his interviews. Daniels swings for the fences and they hit, wacky and extremely poignant home runs every time.
Thank you sir!!!
“Princess Mononoke” & “Moonlight” getting mentioned at the end! 💜
I needed this today!
Thank you so much for this interview/podcast !

The best moment: when they all joke about ditching old crew people in order to work only with "Oscar winners" 🤣
AMAZING interview!! Loved it!!
Im so glad Swiss army man exist
Great interview. Is Swiss army man good?
Yes it is!
Daniels Ink Five-Year Deal with Universal! What will they amaze us with next?!
As long as they have 100% creative control. I mean universal isn’t exactly a24

Christian fortune teller? There’s an oxymoron for you! Don’t you mean a prophet? If it was a prophet, you have a calling.
Prophet would imply he/she is actually of supernatural powers and since it’s all voodoo mumbo jumbo - fortune teller is a more suitable name.
@@DarkWildSaison God is the one with the supernatural powers. He speaks to whoever He wants. Fortune tellers are satanic.
@@ministerioscristianosefata7838 well let’s agree to disagree about god. Peace.
