Very First Betamax Home Video Recorder Promo 1977

This is the consumer tape that came in the very first homevideo recorder called The Sony Betamax. It described an entirely new concept in television viewing. At that time it was one giant unit including the recorder and trinitron television. Betamax lost the format wars to VHS and has disappeared into time.

The amazing thing is that this wasn’t really new even in 1975. Philips had their VCR system introduced in Europe in 1972. It succeeded quite well (in Sweden at least) and it was also less expensive than the original Betamax. It had a timer just like the Betamax and one hour recording time like the original Betamax.
