Let me be perfectly clear on this I have all the respect in the world for you guys in that Minnesota winter weather! wow! no way no how, I mean cold weather is ten times harder to work in than hot weather but things do seem to work better in hot weather, thank goodness, here is a tip of the hat to all Larson Farm workers on or off camera, best of luck to you all and enjoy your summer because it's a comin', (southern talk for y'all)...
Please get mics for all of you. Cant hear a lot of what the swede says. Doug has lots of volume. Just a suggestion. Enjoy watching as much as you guys seem to enjoy making.
Chet, you are the ultimate in cool. You have the greatest disposition of anyone I've ever known. You and the Big Swede make a great team, your wisdom and organization skills and his ability to seem to be able to do anything and willingness to try. I hope the three of you (got to include Duggo) have an awesome 2022 filled with great things. Take care.

Hey Chet! The secret to aluminum welding is the air temperature! Welded an A frame duck blind with 1/8 inch square tubing and 3/16 sheet aluminum on top of the frame for a weather barrier. The metal conducts heat fast so you park it outside for 10 minutes and cool it down. Then weld small sections fast before everything heats up. Once it gets hot (and you will know when that happens) stick it back outside to cool down and repeat. Love the content. I’m not a farmer I’m cooperate 9-5 but I have family and friends that do farm in my county and I cant wait for that harvest or planting phone call asking for an extra hand after my full time job
Ozone generator is the way to go to get the smell out of the quad track. I think I got one for $60 on Amazon. Removed mouse smell in our combine in about 20 minutes
Those ozone machine's work good, 60 on amazon to. Worked on a car that had been outside for 25 year's, with mold, dust, and mouse motels. Has no foul smell anymore. Just don't breathe the air, can damage your lungs or worse. They use these for black mold removal of spores.
You 3+ mamma are a tribute to family enjoying doing life together. Your channel is one of my top 5 channels. Have a blessed, prosperous and faithful New Year.
Guys. On aluminum when a crack starts you drill a hole at the end of the crack. That stops the crack from getting bigger. It’s called stop drilling and we use on aircraft aluminum and even plexiglass windows. Looks like Erik’s welding came out really good 👍
Make sure the surface is clean and then weld it on the BS behalf if you don’t weld aluminum everyday you can’t get good. Toby looks happy Toby is the man stay safe and warm see you on the next video
Take ground coffee and spread it all over the cab, works very well. I used to do that to tractors that came on trade from a hog barn or such at the dealership.
I learned a long time ago how to get odors out of spaces including rotten meats from coolers, refrigerators, freezers, etc. 1st remove the items and clean the area thoroughly. 2nd place a small amount of chlorine (swimming pool kind works well) in a plastic or glass bowl, about 1 tablespoon per 100 square foot area. Place that in the space and close it up tightly for 24 hours. If the odors persist after that then place the chlorine in a envelope and place it back into the bowl. Then add ½ teaspoon of water and let sit undisturbed for an additional 24 hours. It will take a minute or so before the water and chlorine interact so use that time to evaluate the area. Do not breathe the air in that space and wear safety glasses and gloves. After 24 hours the odor should be gone and you can wipe the surface clean with soap & water.
I so enjoy looking at a farm yard that is kept neat with the machinery and tractors put away. I keep my place neat and everything possible inside. I think it shows that the owner has pride in his machinery which shows when clean and kept up at trade in time.
On semis they are called brake blocks, asbestos is outlawed, so usually some type of carbon friction material. Couldn't see clearly but the shoes looked like Rockwell q's.
You need to clean the surface before you weld aluminum with a stainless steel brush and again after every time you stop. Aluminum is very sensitive to contamination. Fun videos to watch. Thanks
You can also stick a piece of carbon steel behind it and that will help to absorb the heat and you won't burn threw or if you do u will be able to weld on the steel and then when you are are done the aluminum weld won't stick to the steel
Adjust your power and feed speeeed guys. Just like any other welding you can weld hot and fast or cold and slow ( well relatively speaking ). Cant blame Eric though for trying to dial i his technique on what seems to be a previously unused (to him ) welder. At least give the man some scrap to practice on before you set him loose on the truck!
🤣 With aluminum you need to Push and if you put a piece of steel behind it it will absorb the heat and be easier to weld. Also a flap disc works very nice with aluminum, makes it look all pretty😁
That’s a lot of equipment to shuffle. You guys all do a good job. Theres always something to do around a farm. Take care and have a good one guys 👍👍👍❤️
The fog in the quadtrak in beginning of video is remnants of the moisture from big swede tears,, The semicircular steel part of brake shoes is the shoe, the material adhered to or riveted to it is "lining". Yes Chet ,, pads are brake parts used with disc brakes. *

For quick repairs like that on thin aluminum just put that gun on a 45 degree or more angle to the part your welding, pull the trigger push the gun not drag and go, don’t worry about making the motions on thin stuff, just a tip that might help you out
You and the Big Swede should ask Dougo why he did not buy the Metro dome tarp and build one huge storage shed. lol No more moving machines to winter storage. All it needed was a patch. Hide from the DOT until you get new pads. lol I hear a slight twitch of animosity from Erick. lol Pop riviets for the alum. fenders. Don't do it Erik!!!!!!!!!!!! Told you so Erik. Dougo they call them bushings. Love your videos from south central Minn..
when welding thin sheet you need to do it bit by bit. do lots of little spots about an inch apart and keep doing that until its all welded up. you need to allow the material to stay cool
Hey Guys, that weld looks fine from where I'm sitting here in Nebraska. Who knows, you may decide to trade off that truck before you ever fix it better.
Good thing Toby is there to supervise or someone might try burning down the shop to keep warm. lol Ohhhhh.... and don't forget to swap out your summer air for winter air in all the tires. Heard it makes a world of difference for traction. LOL You guys are great. Is it time to plant yet?!
Chat you may have made wrong decisions in the past but having the big Swede weld aluminum was most definitely not one of them at least as far as quality UA-cam content goes! That was hilarious!!!
I love the "downtime" videos just as much but maybe a little more than the "GOGOGOGOGO" harvesting videos. That being said...when do we start planting?
set up gimbaled camera stand for doing work on equipment. Put camera mounts on and in cabs of tractors, equipment so you can film you work without having to hold a camera.
Excellent video as always! Pretty good welding for beginner. I would have burned through the fender, through the tire and melted the wheel. You guys are awesome!
Get you some fresh coffee grounds. And put them in your tractor. Even your new loader tractor. It will help get the smell out. That's how we used to clean the smell out of our reefer trailers

Aluminum welding, the bane of every farmhand.

Do not breathe the air in that space and wear safety glasses and gloves.
After 24 hours the odor should be gone and you can wipe the surface clean with soap & water.

I came here to say the same thing.
Also have to push aluminum can't pull it
How about turn down the amperage so you don't burn through
With acetone also idk if i spelled that right
You can also stick a piece of carbon steel behind it and that will help to absorb the heat and you won't burn threw or if you do u will be able to weld on the steel and then when you are are done the aluminum weld won't stick to the steel

It is relatively easy to remember, when a vehicle has disc brakes, it uses brake pads. When a vehicle has brake drums, it uses brake shoes.
