Top tip if you do not want or can’t connect to your radio you can still use it. Just type in the freq and hit enter before adding the call sign ;) and it will set the freq ;)
I've been looking to set up laptop based logbook, so this video was very useful. I know this is a popular program but it is good to see how it works first hand. Thanks, Tim!
Morning Tim, having just passed my foundation exam and been following you on here for some time. When I get my call sign I will be mainly doing mobile like you, I also have a steam powered laptop 😂 which I could use so I might try N1MM.
Thanks for the QSO in the AFS contest Tim, I was using SD and we ended up on the same QSO total. Unfortunately I forgot (I'm so used to VHF contests) that the entry has to be in much earlier and I missed the deadline. Ooops! 73 G0JLF
@@timg5tm941 wow thanks Tim for the fast reply, i have found the culprit, it was the directory, it always wanted to pop it in a "onedrive" folder, i have since uninstalled that, but it still wanted to pop it in to that folder even though the programme wasn't there anymore, (insert angry face) i have since fettled it before i had to resort to the Yorkshire screwdriver method, ...now just to figure it out, Have a great bank holiday Tim, and keep up the great vids.
Hi Tim great vid. I use a 897d and do not have a direct connection to my pc ,so I use the QRZ method you started with. Is N1m any good as a stand alone ie no connection to radio?
I'm in the same camp as Aristotle Onassis whom believed in the virtue of a humble notebook. That's how I log my contacts, old-fashioned but reliable. With the added bonus it can't be damaged by a malicious computer virus or hacked by some spotty geek living in his mother's back bedroom.
I just don't get contesting. It's just that after spending thousands of dollars on equipment and training, "talking" to someone for 10 seconds so one can write it in a book isn't really talking now is it? Why not dump all of that and just talk to people? Real conversations. I suppose I can see keeping track of different countries or continents, but 10 seconds with someone you don't know or will never meet? It eludes me.

Nice one! Good luck with the foundation
I found video lacking in info on how to use N!MM and no info on setting it up and getting it to operate. Maybe a future video on install and setup.
I'm surprised that QRZ doesn't have a decent mobile app. Anyone recommend a decent Android logger that you can export to QRZ?
I use HAMRS but that’s iOS

Nice one Tony. You fixed that far quicker than I could have. Enjoy the weekend too mate 73

Yes it can work although you’ll need to manually enter the frequency each time you move
Good use for an old laptop, I upgrade my old units with a cheap SSD and up the RAM if possible. Last for years with those modifications... J
Nice option of one of the many logging programs available. 73 Chris M0RSF
Cheers Chris!

But it could get wet and ruined, or lost. Whereas a cloud-bsaed logbook would be extremely resilient to hacking or any data loss. Just saying 😁
@@Nick_G7IZR water proof notebook and copy the information to a second.

log4om is alsow verrry nice to log and radio control
yes, that's a good program to use.
hi Tim will this work on MacBook ?
Only if you have a tool to run windows on Mac
If you don’t want to run a VM on your Mac try RUMlog - it’s available for OSX and IOS and can cloud sync across devices.
Be great to see a MacOS version
Not much content about N1MM

👍👏👏
Sounds good - must buy a transceiver first :-) .
Indeed 👍

Working new countries is my thing from contests - otherwise I can see what you mean.
