Yes it does! We ran it that way a few weeks ago when were we up the hills.. We couldn't get the TS-2000 "on" for some reason, so we ran it in manual mode.
Hi Calum love these videos, they have convinced me that I really want to get into contesting if I can. I am bewildered by all the technology so was wondering what suggestions you have for entry-level radios that would be suitable for contesting and work potentially with N1MM. I am a foundation licence holder at the moment but looking to progress to Intermediate. Many thanks!
OK, almost ANY radio will work - as long as you have CAT control (USB or RS232 port) so that your radio and computer can change frequency together etc.
This is really useful, thanks! I've been considering log programs recently and this is an ideal intro to this well known logger. Logger sorted... still shack building, should be good to go for Winter.
@@DXCommanderHQ I am curious although I may have missed it on the stream , is you radio display direct input into OBS as a video stream like the 2 camera feeds?
Nice one Callum, I was wandering what it was all about and you have enlightened me to N1MM and I feel I have been missing out now. Thanks for the great video. 73 Ellis M5AEI
I'm currently looking into and studying for my ham. I've seen multiple references to logging requirements. (I'm in the States.) Although this video is informative about a logging software, I would like to see something directly about logging. What information is required? How to keep and maintain logs. How long do I have to have said logs on file? You know, the legal stuff about logging. (Obviously, it would be generalized coming from you as we're in different regions of the world and there will likely be variations to contend with regionally specific to countries and so forth.)
By the way, I have learned a lot from your antenna videos. You have helped me develop an antenna that gets me "out my front door" so to speak. I'm currently on an older Realistic 40 channel cb. Your information and theories took me from little receive on a poorly assembled dipole (horizontal) to what we call skip (over here in the states) receiving on a 1/4 wave grounded single beam vertical made from an old window covering rod. I'm not sure what kind of transmission range I'm getting but, my goal was only to talk to a buddy a couple of miles away and I'm making that trip. So, Thank you for providing the information that you give us.
OK.. In the UK it is not a requirement to log. I Think that is the same in USA however it's great fun keeping a log and it means when you bump into someone 20 years later, you can have a good laugh.
@@DXCommanderHQ Thank you for your reply. I have saw the same information here in the states too but, as recent as a few months ago, the guys that help us aspiring operators pass the test have included it as if we're still required to log. I did see one guy say that he logs to protect himself in the event of a neighbor complaint. An FCC investigator said something similar too. I suppose that could be why many trainers still tell us that logging is a requirement.
OK, that's called Self Spotting and not really encouraged.. Best thing you can do is ask someone who contacts you to put you on the cluster. Some logging programs have that - alternatively, there are some websites that interface. Just Google "DX Summit" for instance. Good question!
It CAN run without a radio, yes.. You have to type in the frequency actually inside where the callsign goes.. So if you want to be on 14.278, then just type 14278 and it will lock on to that freq.
So I always struggled getting this program set up and running on my laptop. Ive been using HAMRS for all my logs and its been great. I wanted to give n1mm a shot again and used it all afternoon and made like 20 contacts no complaints once i got rolling it was great! I went to QRZ to upload and when I was done the names were only what i input for the qso. is there an import for any of the databases? or is that just how n1mm operates?
Bill, you need to configure the export.. For instance, File > Export > By Date works and all info is exported as an ADIF file which is normally read by all other logging programs..
All of my contacts were logged succesffuly. But the "name" field only contains what i write. No last names or anything. Its not the end of the world just not what im used to seeing. Im trying to clarify that im not missing something in the various drop down, sub menu, option tabs.
Good evening Callum I really enjoyed the video and when I get into a contest I use The same program and I really like it a lot. But I didn’t know you can do so much more with it. Hope you have a great week. 73 WD5ENH Steve
If I assume there needs to be a cable connection between my TS-590SG for n1mm to react to changes in the transceiver will it be able to share the connections made to be allow wifi control from another computer elsewhere in the house/
@@DXCommanderHQ Thanks Callum, it is my intention to remote control my TS-590SG to avoid extensive coax wiring. I am living with my son and will have a ‘shack’ in a heated attached garage but want to operate from my quarters. I surmise that the connection for the computer will be shared by the Kenwood remote control software and the n1mm software and the DRV connection will allow me to connect a RSP1A as a visual waterfall.
Can i ask! Does this program show a map of the contacts reached in a set time period. Like day week month year so on. As i see many posting on Facebook showing map of world and contacts they have reached out to.. 🤷🏼♂️ thanks.
No.. For toys like that, yku can export your file and import it to all sorts.. Beyond the scope here but there are lots of toys and log programs that do this.
@@DXCommanderHQ many thanks for the reply, just starting out here had my foundation a couple of weeks and still unsure of a radio or antenna to get 🥺 I'd rather not rush than buy something I would regret. But I'm liking the FTDX10. Could you advise of a antenna that would be a good match for that radio?
I keep getting "N1MM Logger Lost Communication with Radio 1. "Radio # 1, FT-710 on COM 6 is not responding. Restore the radio interface polling connection and click Retry below, or right-click on the Bandmap for this radio and choose 'Reset Radios' to restart the connection." What? I am stuck. Any help would be appreciated.
It's a comms error. Normally happens when the interface loses it's marbles. Could be the cable, your USB / RS232 port or the computer.. I would change the port and the cable over myself.. It's the same error you get when you switch the radio off.. So it's definitely an accurate error. Sorry I can't help further.
For some reason I cant get the spots from the cluster to show on my bandmap. Im connected to the cluster, click the sh/dx button and the spots are coming though. Also my filters are setup correctly but they just wont show on the bandmap.
Newly (back) in ham radio--new to logging software. Curious about N1MM, I downloaded and installed. Nothing I can do fixes the immediate abort w/ message like "computer has moved the subdirectory to the OneDrive Cloud." Followed the directions for the fix--spent an afternoon. Nowhere that I move, create or put that subdirectory will start the program. Gave up.
Can you show us various data fields that can be captured? for instance does N1MM calculate distance of the QSQ? On the logging pane can you control (add or eliminate) data fields for entry? POTA park, etc.
Arthur, I could do a VERY in depth video but to be frank with you, give it a go yourself. If you fire up the VHF side of things, you can put in Maidenhead Squares etc.
I've tried to get it working here with no success. I've two radios - it moans that they both have the same number yet won't give me the choice to name the 2nd one Radio 2. It also doesn't talk to my Anan 7000 even though they say to use the Flex settings. And I can't get any comms between it and the TS890 either.
Oh heck Andy.. Getting comms is the first thing.. Try again then everything will fall into place. You will need USB to Serial Port converter (ideally to make it easy) although MAYBE the Ethernet port can do it too.. Have you got the ARCP 890 software working? That's the Kenwood thingy? Drop me a line bcz your comment will be buried..

OK, that's called Self Spotting and not really encouraged.. Best thing you can do is ask someone who contacts you to put you on the cluster. Some logging programs have that - alternatively, there are some websites that interface. Just Google "DX Summit" for instance. Good question!
Thank you for this. What do you use for general logging? Was that the dx bit?
Yes it was :)
Hi Callum, does this software need to have the radio connected to the computer or can it be used separately.
It CAN run without a radio, yes.. You have to type in the frequency actually inside where the callsign goes.. So if you want to be on 14.278, then just type 14278 and it will lock on to that freq.
Thanks very much :), that should get me started
Best of luck!
I never knew how contesting works. I have never done it.
It's pretty easy. I made a video about it..
You get 2 thubs up, love the N1MM logger abd still earning it. this will help a little bit. Is there a way to automate a upload to qrz?
Automate? No - just export ADIF file and send it off.
N1MM does some stuff the 7300 can do? Nice. I have older rigs.
AH-ha! OK< good luck!
Good evening Callum I really enjoyed the video and when I get into a contest I use The same program and I really like it a lot. But I didn’t know you can do so much more with it. Hope you have a great week.

If I assume there needs to be a cable connection between my TS-590SG for n1mm to react to changes in the transceiver will it be able to share the connections made to be allow wifi control from another computer elsewhere in the house/
Yes.. It's cable to the radio and wifi to the router.. Maybe I don't fully understand but you need FIRSTLY to connect your 590 to your computer..
Callum its happens manny time
Could you advise of a antenna that would be a good match for that radio?
thank you
Just downloaded it. N1MM
Oh bugga.. Maybe drop a line to the N1MM support forum?
I figured it out, I had to set the operation type to assisted in the log properties. Thanks for replying anyway!@@DXCommanderHQ
Gave up.
OneDrive.. That's not N1MM, that's silly-billy settings in OneDrive.
Disable OneDrive
Can you show us various data fields that can be captured? for instance does N1MM calculate distance of the QSQ? On the logging pane can you control (add or eliminate) data fields for entry? POTA park, etc.
Arthur, I could do a VERY in depth video but to be frank with you, give it a go yourself. If you fire up the VHF side of things, you can put in Maidenhead Squares etc.
Thanks for sharing the knowledge :-)
Anton! :)
Must this be connected to a radio?
Must it be connected to the internet? Can I do all my contacts on paper and then afterwards input it to M1MM?
It can work while not connector to radio. You certainly do not need internet.
Hi Callum, can you transfer data from N1MM to QRZ log as I do want to keep using that too. Thanks, de M3SLU
Yes.. Just File > Export > Adif (also same in reverse)
@@DXCommanderHQ Thank you
I've tried to get it working here with no success.
Thank you Callum for a very helpful video. It's a little intimidating this program but will get it down eventually. Thanks for the guidance. 73 KL5NU 👌
You can do it!
