The film looks amazing. Maybe lacks some plot realisms but it still told amazing and important stories. Same for Black Hawk Down. Top 5 favorite films. Hell, I like Fury a lot as well, similar plot realism issues but still tells stories reminiscent of those of real men who fought and died. This past October my father and I met a man with a WWII vet hat. Had to be 97+. He was D-day plus 3. I choked up hearing him tell the story, you could see his face change as he reached back a lifetime in his memories, into some dark memories and told us of the machine gun nests they dealt with and his injuries, got sent back to England twice for injuries after D-day. I had tears in my eyes getting to meet this man.
My grandma married a fella before I was born. Knew him all my life. When he passed I was a pallbearer. I was an adult and a veteran myself before by accident I learned he’d served in tanks during WWII (another relative brought it up). He’d never even mentioned being in the army. I tried to ask him a question about it. He just looked away and acted like I hadn’t said anything. It was the strangest thing at the time and it was never mentioned again.
While watching Saving Private Ryan, my dad, a Vietnam veteran, said that the smell of decaying human flesh was the worst thing you could possibly smell. He also said that the worst thing you could ever hear was a grown man screaming for his mom.
My grandfather was a WW2 veteran that ended up carrying 2 Guns as one was a sharpshooter rifle. Only really heard a couple of small stories but really wouldn't say much about it. I had heard my uncle heard a couple of other things but very little was said about it even when you asked him. This was part of what made them the greatest generation
Band of Brothers was about a specific company in a specific regiment, but yeah he was likely involved in most of the same stuff depicted in the series. St. Mere Eglise was mainly an 82nd operation, but the 101st was involved as well.
I'm just here to listen to Rip tell the story about going to the store and seeing a guy wearing a mask. I love that story and he tells it on every podcast. 🤡
We have a difference of values and worldview. What you consider oppressive is the exact opposite for us. That said, you're regurgitating propaganda that is completely false. Most conservatives are anti-censorship these days
@@chuckmartel1874 keep telling yourself that. All the evidence that I’ve provided points to conservatives regulating speech. Oh let’s not forget the Espionage and Sedition Acts, and the first and second Red Scares. On the other hand, you have yet to provide a single piece of evidence of leftists restricting freedom of speech.

D Day was supposed to be the 5th, but was postponed due to weather.
I heard a veteran once say the only thing missing from Saving Private Ryan was the smell.
The diesel, yes?

God bless your father and his sacrifice for our freedoms. And thank you for your knowledge and teachings.
Great anecdote.
So your father was in the Band of Brothers? Episode 2 they mention that same town you mentioned he landed in

None of you knew June 6th was the date?? 😮
The jumpers went the night before, so that was presumably the 5th.
All I know is don't watch Saving Private Ryan with Kevin Spacey.
Fucking awesome brave soldiers !
Rusty with a cheeky Mac shack soda
Hey Rip, on reddit I found emails of you talking about finding bulls for your wife and that stuff, is that really you ?
And aaaa…..
I'm just here to listen to Rip tell the story about going to the store and seeing a guy wearing a mask. I love that story and he tells it on every podcast. 🤡
The irony of Rip’s shirt. Conservatives regulate expression more than anyone else. FCC, book banning, supporting mandatory prayer in schools, etc.
