I still assume that the chapters will release in December, it seems like something Toby would do considering December Holiday
Especially since Chapter 4 seems like it might be Christmas themed, between the last newsletter mentioning a Ginger Guard in the translation section, and this one showing Noelle in a dark room with Christmas decorations, which is likely a screenshot from after the fountain is closed in that room. It’s an extremely fitting fountain to be looking for Dess in, and likely reveals that it was made by Noelle too, because as well as reflecting the objects in the room, dark worlds also reflect the will of the lightener who opens it.
That's probably the goal, but I think Jan-Feb is going to be the result.
@@jacobpamplin6449 I’m not so sure. The previous newsletter implied they were just finishing up with Chapter 4 and only STARTING one translation and console porting, but now they have a decent draft of Chapter 3’s translation and have made progress on console porting. From what Toby said, all the work that he is capable of doing is done, so it’s now being split into several separate teams, meaning they aren’t really hindered waiting on the work of others. In fact, he’s so confident on these two chapters going smoothly that he’s tasked the rest of the team with beginning on chapter 5.
I’d say both chapter translations will be done and fully passed through by Halloween, console porting will have had a first pass for Chapter 3, and the current issues with splitting chapters 1 and 2 will be fixed.
(my theory is that his problem is due to the room count decreasing by splitting the game files, causing the same error he had when he added the dog check room, offsetting all the save files. This COULD result in save files being incompatible from the demo version to the new one, but my guess is that they’ll develop a system to check if the save file is from the demo and then offset all the room numbers appropriately).
All of these major teams can work independently, so the longest wait will be the time it takes for the longest task to be complete, plus a final pass on each platform, so I think it will be entirely possible for December if not sooner (but December is thematically appropriate)

If it does release in 2025, I think Valentine’s day/February 14th would be a good date. It’s the same date we got the mysterious letter after all.
But yeah, I’m hoping for this December. I don’t know anything about video game testing or console porting so I have no idea how long it’s gonna take.
Honestly, with the pace of development, Feb 14th seems super likely actually. It's a good chunk of time from now to get all the loose ends tied up.
Also it'd be funny if it released on a significant Silksong anniversary.

Growing up, I actually have eaten spaghetti almost exclusively from a bowl! It's a lot more contained that way. I only have my pasta on a plate at restaurants.
I'm pretty sure that depends on a person/culture, I often eat spaghetti on a plate, but I also eat in in a bowl because it's more convenient when I want to eat on my bed without the desk, or when I mix the pasta with the sauce, I don't know why, but I just like it
Both are commonly used as far as I'm aware. Im pretty sure italians tend to eat it in a pretty deep plate

I personally don't think this year is likely because of the console ports alone. Those things take time, and even after they're done there's a whole second round of bug testing and fixes that need to be done on those versions to ensure they're 100% accurate to PC. The JP translation literally just being the same as PC isn't a problem though, and neither is the new gamemaker feature as that would easily be finished by the time console ports are. I see an early 2025 release, should everything go to plan, probably some time in January or February, with us getting a release date trailer in December for the thematic aspects. Maybe a 2 month gap is too much, but if the trailer is dense then we can just pull a silksong and tear apart every pixel of that trailer until the release date, lol

I'm not sure of January or February, because from a sellers pov no buys games or any consumer products during this time as people have less money to spend after Christmas and new year
@@amser7 I could see it being a pre-order, honestly. Literally the only games company I'd trust to pull through with one, seeing as we've literally been drip fed information on the development process the entire way through, and know it's going well.
I forgot about other consoles. I forgot Toby only specified the PC version being complete. Although we do know he has currently moved the a decent portion of the crew over to Chapter 5.
Tbf, chapter 2's console port released one week after the pc version, but at the same time, he did say 3 and 4 are longer than both 1 and 2 so idk

I have a theory that every dark world looks like that screenshoot from ch 3 and when a new fountain is created, it adapts itself to the environment in which it was made, in this case the Dreemurr household and the TV. Maybe it looks like that in the beggining because the fountain was just created and didn't have time to adapt yet.
I think the chapter 3 intro area screenshot is the couch.
Those amalgamate shaped thingies really look like little thread pieces of a carpet/couch.
Toby and crew might finish their work, but the game_change work might become the critical path. Highly depends on the details, but in late July he said it would "release" in "a few weeks". If "release" means general availability (or whatever term yoyo uses,) and "few" means 3-5 then assuming the worst case of 5 weeks they are about 2 weeks behind schedule. However, it also could have meant released to Toby in which there's nothing to worry about. Though the gamemaker manual (in "full context" mode,) displays it as "beta" and the xbox is not currently listed as a supported platform so I'm inclined to think it's not the best case scenario.
Probably worse, it said that the initial pass of translation is being worked on for chapter 4. He doesn't say which phase, but translation for chapter 3 started sometime between Halloween 2023 and Winter 2024. So, at best, it took 8 or so months to finish chapter 3's localization. I'll let you do the math on Chapter 4.
So yeah, between these two things I highly doubt it would come out this year. But hey, would be pleasantly surprised to be wrong.

I think either on Halloween or Christmas we will get another newsletter (or on both) from Toby where he will confirm the progress that has been made.
I'm expecting that Chapter 3 will be done fully except the console port maybe by the end of the year and Chapter 4 will be in a similar state to Chapter 3 rn
A release in February/March seems very likely to me though obviously I want it to be sooner lol
Also Might I just add how weird it will be having 2 chapters released at once? I kinda wish they would have come like half a year apart from each other because there will be no time to theorize and dissect chapter 3 before chapter 4...
That's a weird thing to wish for after having no chapters for 3 years but it's just something I thought about
It's better to realse at once, too many games fall into theorizing traps instead of releasing as a complete experience.

It's a cheeky marketing move to get people to buy the game long before reviews come out. Preorder make sense when the game is in some physical limited edition and so the copies can end. It's still a marketing move, but there's a difference between that and a mockery.

@@davidjohansson4556 it's not a "big evil ploy to scam people", but still videogames companies want you to buy their game, some with healthy marketing moves and some with more toxic ones. Let's put it like that, what if a game has preorder like 6-9 months before release, the game probably still need polishing and bugfixing, maybe it isn't completely finished, the point is you don't know what the current status of the game is. So why shouldn't you wait until the game is out and the status of the game is confirmed. Regarding buying in a more comfortable time, saving the money and buying on release won't change your financial situation.

I'm still in the 2025 release date camp, but I now believe we're probably gonna get 3 and 4 in early 2025 rather than summer, like I initially assumed. In terms of another newsletter, I could see it coming out on Halloween for Deltarune's anniversary
Yeah, I'm slightly leaning towards the early 2025 release. I think it all really depends how quickly the latter stages of development go. If it takes a while for the LTS update to release to the public, then that could significantly delay development.
when toby said that the localisation first pass will be completed by the next newsletter (hopefully) it probably means winter 2024/5 (if we DO get a mini-newsletter for halloween like last year, it probably doesnt count) which could really release anytime during the season, although christmas is quite likely. i think, assuming a christmas newsletter, a good time period for the game would be february - april 2025

I still kind of doubt that we get chapters 3 and 4 this year. Actually i think they’ll release for UTs 10th anniversary next year.
I still am more pessimistic that it will be in 2024. My bet is September/October next year. If it's this year I would expect a Christmas release, that's as late as you can really push something like this in the year. (I guess a few days post Christmas? But if you can make that you can probably make the holiday itself. and then it's like a Christmas present. The first chapter did release on Halloween after all.

I think how it would work is that each chapter would have its own separate game folder that would be opened by the launcher program. Extra chapters may be added on via DLC or something similar.

Remember people. They still have to localize and translate the game to other languages and port to all systems so all versions are released at the same time. And of course since its now going to be paid...Remember they have to go through legal stuff and get game rated and all that jazz.

I have a low ball estimate of 9-12 months from the summer news letter. It used to be 6-9 but considering they still gotta beta test some stuff and haven’t even started on that yet, I think 9 months at the earliest.
@valhund2629 again, you're way overshooting it. A lot of the stuff they have left to do is stuff that can be done simultaneously. Testing, legal, and translation are all different roles with different teams.
Mid 2025?!? I’ve heard of not setting your expectations too high, but rly? 2025? The only language deltarune will be translated too (at least before the whole thing is out) is japanese. This take of yours is about as absurd as Halloween release date truthers. I think it will release in December if possible, but January would work as well, because chapter 4 seems to be Christmas themed located in the church (Rudy mentions going to church tomorrow, which would be the same day as chapter 4 since chapter 3 takes place overnight. Also the red church cup is seen climbing one of those “Santa ladder” toys that are sold around Christmas) and a winter release date would make a lot of sense considering a dark world with Rudy and Noelle would probably have a lot of dess lore in it as well.
