    I recently bought a com headset, and love it. It really helps with communication and also protects my ears. But for 2 years I played Airsoft using earplugs. Great video guys, keep it up. 👍

      Thanks for watching! Must be a huge difference coming from earplugs. ;-) | Instinct

    I bought a pair of used Peltor Comtacs without the com setup for a favorable price. Hooked them up to a cheap but decent radiospeaker that has the option to plug in my earpro via a 2 pin to 3.5 mm cable. Works great and a optional solution to eliminate the need for the often expensive amplified ptt and boom mic and still maintain hearing protection, stealthy coms and situational awareness.

    Good piece of advice - just buy the real thing and get it over and done with. By the time you tally up the multiple "cheap" products, you're 60% of the way to having bought the "real deal", and then you end up buying the real one anyway. Total cost = all the cheapos PLUS you bought the expensive one anyway.
    Only exception to this is when you truly have a budget - in which case you picked the wrong hobby, haha.

      I had earmors, only lasted two airsoft games before I had to send them back. Then did reading up and saw all the issues. So I bit the bullet and went for 3M’s and they are worlds apart. I got second hand to make it a bit better but they are so much better!

      @@qwerty123il I think I may have gotten lucky with my Earmor's lasting so long, maybe newer versions quality have dropped off a lot? But same as you will be looking for a nice 2nd hand set of 3M's. :)

      Max Steele yeah maybe! I got mine Christmas last year. When they work they are more than adequate for airsoft for sure. The problem is that, having them consistently working. Mine used to deactivate the active side of the hearing protection every time they received a comms signal... not much use!
      But yes do it you won’t regret it

      A piece of plastic that costs $20 to replace breaks so you decide Earmor are shit so you want to spend $500 to replace them? there is literally no need to be spending so much money on real steel gear for airsoft it's just kinda dumb if the mount has broken you should perhaps look at a better set of mounts, not just buy expensive headsets that do the exact same job because some dude on youtube told you to!

    • @maxsteele20
      @maxsteele20 4 роки тому +5

      @@i-_-am-_-g1467 Your making a lot of assumptions there pal... Oh, I never said Earmor were shit...why am I still using them then after 3 years. Yes I could replace the mounts easily...but I quite fancy sourcing a 2nd hand set of Comtacs to use and I don't need some pissy American telling me what I can and cannot do. Have a great day mate. I may buy two actually now. :)

    IMO majority of airsofters don't need active earpro and people wear it just for cool looks, not knowing about significant disadvantages of earpro. Active earpro actually REDUCE your situational awareness. They amplify sounds, but you can't precisely tell the direction of this sound. Also if anything hits/touches your headset, sound levels will be significantly reduced (or even completely disabled in case of cheap replicas). You will be at a big disadvantage if you are playing airsoft in a forest wearing active earpro.
    IMO, there are 2 scenarios in airsoft when active earpro is viable:
    1. Playing a game where a lot of pyro is used (grenades, mines, UGLs, mortars)
    2. Using GBBRs which are actually pretty loud.
    Other than that, I would consider other options. I use shoulder mic + acoustic ear tube for stealthy operations, but I can always remove ear tube and use speaker on my shoulder mic if I don't have to be stealthy (moving in a vehicle, stationary defense, etc.)
    As for dualcom setups, it's a pity you didn't mention Baofeng UV-82. It's a perfect dualcom platform. Having 2 radios, 2 wires and 2 sets of spare batteries for dualcom is a nightmare.

    • @ReconBrothers
      @ReconBrothers  4 роки тому

      As for the situational awareness, what active ear pro did you use? With ours we can clearly tell what the direction of the sound comes from. Did it have 1 or 2 external mics? We don't mention Baofeng since they are mostly illegal in the EU when it comes to their specs (Unless you have a license for them, which most people don't have). I Instinct

      Depends on the earpro. Many have stereo mics and work wuite well. The cheaper ones will be mono and agree they are for hard parking larpers.

    Nice video! I have a question, I run a half mesh mask, goggles, and a Boonie hat, will these fit under the hat? if not, would they still amplify sound if I wore them outside of the hat?

    • @ReconBrothers
      @ReconBrothers  4 роки тому +1

      You can do both, but wearing it over the boonie won't provide the best sealing and it won't be easy to put the headset on your head either. Anyhow you wear them, if they are on your ears they will amplify, only blocking sound properly can be a problem. I Viper

      No experience ourselves, but we've come across a whole bunch of guys that used them. None of them were positive about Earmor products.
      A good thing to know about hearing protection is that you can only go two ways, either cheap junk or expensive stuff that does work. There's no middleway in that market, especially when it involves comms.

    Recently getting back into airsoft and there aren't many fields near me that aren't 2+ hours away so we play in the woods behind my house. It's usually a group of 4-8 of us and even the small pickup games are much fun. We talked about how good comms would be instead of yelling to eachother, exposing our position. Though I'm having a tough time deciding if I want to bite the bullet or not. Would having ear pro + comms be that much better than just using discord on your phone and earbuds or something alike?

    • @ReconBrothers
      @ReconBrothers  4 роки тому

      We only have experience with ear pro & comms, so the solution with your phone is something to find out for yourself.
      It also depends on whether you need ear pro. Do you guys get to deal with any sort of explosions? If not, I wouldn't aim for a full ear pro headset since the decent ones are expensive. In such a case, just going for a two-way radio gets the job already done. Just mount it on your shoulder or chest (very similar to what patrol policemen do) and set the volume so it doesn't reach out far but just enough for you to hear it. We've ran our comms that way for about a year and it works great.
      If you need ear pro then don't bother going for the cheap/repro/airsoft versions, because 90% of the people we know that have them only experienced problems with those.
      The phone solution you mentioned could be a good alternative as well, so it might be worth a try. I Viper

    • @ReconBrothers
      @ReconBrothers  4 роки тому +3

      Hi, I don't know about your local rules but we're allowed to use bang devices that can go up to 120-140 dB. And with those ear protection is something you best have. And since we're also intending to do milsim events in the future and want to do firearm range shooting and training courses it's a good and logic investment to go for reliable products.
      Regarding your situation: We have known a guy that had a headset that only amplified everything (don't know what it was tho), but I would be really carefull with those because if someone for example shoots a loud HPA/GBBR gun next to you, you could get ear damage as well.
      I know how it can suck to throw a €70 product into the garbage. But sadly that is just the reality of these cheap/repro airsoft type of products. We experienced this years ago and basically threw a whole kit of €1000 per person into the bin to start all over again after realizing how this stuff couldn't keep up with what we are doing and require. That's in fact one of the main reasons why we started our channel to make people aware of all this. Sometimes it's just saving up and biting the bullet, but you'll have a product that highly probably will do you a lifetime.
      We'd rather have it this way than keep complaining about things that don't work properly.
      Anyway, hope you'll find something that suits you. ✌ | Viper

    • @Tythas1
      @Tythas1 3 роки тому +1

      i went half-deaf for a full hour when a dude threw a pyro at my feet, and i'll be using ear pro ever since. i like my hearing.
      besides, the noise 'amplification' helps maintain your awareness while otherwise being required to cover your ears for long-range comms which imo is the best part about owning a headset. obviously, these methods aren't for everybody, so i think if it doesn't work out for you (or you don't need it), maybe try playing without a headset?
