You called that tool a paint scraper. I didn't know anyone used those to scrape paint. I see how they could be used for that. We used those to scrape manure out of the stalls in the barn when i was growing up. It looks like they worked good for removing the bark.
Good tip about sealing the ends of the logs to prevent checking.

That’s what I have used it for is scraping paint off of floors! It’s a useful tool overall. Thanks for the comment!

Great tips! Thanks for sharing. We hope to build a knotty pine structure using our own harvested raw timbers one day, so this goes in the knowledge bank!

What a gem of a channel I stumbled upon here!
How long do you dry (I guess pine) before using it for building? Any experience with building with wet wood?

Glad you're enjoying it, appreciate it! My understanding is that pine dries pretty quickly but the thicker the log the longer it needs. I think 6 months to a year would make sure it's super dry but we are planning to use a lot of wet wood in our building. No experience with green wood yet but I will let you know what it's like when we do. My understanding is in timber framing working with green wood makes it stronger in the long run because as it dries it shrinks around the pegs drawing the joint tighter.

@@lordsofpondland Cool thanks for your opinion. Will be chopping down some pines soon and was also planning to start building in 6-7 months. Your statement made me more confident doing so, cheers to that :)
