My dad and uncle took me to the Redskins/Bills game after he was killed. I was only 14, but I've still never seen so many grown men openly weeping before. It was like 1 huge funeral for Sean. He was every Redskins fans favorite player and it absolutely devastated the fan base. Sean actually helped them win their last playoff game in 2006. They beat the bucs 17-10 thanks to Sean's defensive TD in that game.
still my favorite player to this day. I was one of the men who cried a river when he passed away, I was 17 years old when he passed away and I wore his jersey every monday and gameday win or lose. Hell I wore that jersey for a week straight when Snyder officially sold the team.

I personally was at the ST memorial and when the reveal happened I heard so many fans cussing and questioning the so called "statue". when that happened I knew that deep down inside us fans was to not support this team until drastic changes were made. I haven't been to a game since 2012 RG3 rookie year but now I plan on at least going to a couple games this year.
Taylor was fatally shot by one of four robbers during a home invasion that took place at 1:45 AM on a monday. It's probabe the robbers didn't expect him to be home since the team had played a game on Sunday in Tampa Bay, Florida. However, Taylor was recovering from a severe injury and thus had not traveled to Florida with the team. All four of the robbers were convicted of a range of charges. One of them received life in prison, while the others received sentences of 29, 57, and 30 years. A 5th suspect was later convicted of invovlement in the robbery and received an 18-year sentence.
This sort of got overshadowed. The game after he died, his replacement sat out the first play leaving only 10 men on the field. It's a symbolic play that I only recall a few times. It's often referred to as a "Missing Man" formation, which is a formation in the Air Force used to commemorate someone lost in combat. Very touching tribute.

I’m a Washington fan and I remember turning on the tv and seeing that he passed when I got back home from middle school. My football dreams died that day. My favorite player passing, and I couldn’t understand it for a long time. My dad was a season ticket holder and seeing the Bills game after was an experience that I’ll never forget. Seeing my dad cry along with so many other grown ups changed me. Crazy to think that I’m the same age as Sean was when he passed now and I get to watch my cousin Kyle Hamilton play safety in the NFL now. He plays for the Baltimore Ravens and is going into his 2nd season now so not enough highlights yet but he was rated the #1 safety in the NFL by PFF last year. Keep his name in mind, hopefully can watch a vid on him later!
Absolutely tragic how his life got cut short by a few cowards. Taylor stood out like a sore thumb in terms of his talent- and he played at the same time as Reed and Polamalu. One of the best.
Man, even after all these years I still get choked up watching Sean's highlights. It was a very tragic day for all of us Skins fans and everywhere across the league. Ed Reed and Ray Lewis even paid tribute to him at the Ravens game. Thanks for reacting to Sean guys.
It was a tragic day for me and I'm not even a redskins fan. He was amazing to watch. I always made sure to watch his games when they were on TV. I didn't get to watch all of them but still the memories I have of watching him will never leave me. I can only imagine how the fan base and team felt. Especially his family too...
I'm a 49ers fan, and the only game I've ever been able to attend in person is the game they show here, where Sean Taylor balled out. I was a huge fan of him, and even from my seats in the nosebleed section he absolutely stood out on the field. He and LaVar Arrington just looked physically bigger than literally everyone else on the field. When he died, I cried, even as a rival fan. I miss Sean Taylor, and every year I hope to find a player who can measure up to his presence on the field.
That clip of them putting 10 guys on the field and leaving Sean's spot open made me tear up. He became legendary for all the wrong reasons. Totally devastating for his family, friends, teammates and fans.
It pisses me off that on that play where they paid tribute by leaving his spot on the field open, the opposing team immediately attacked that part of the field. That is as low class as low class gets
One of the saddest things is in recent times whenever the Redskins owner Dan Synder would get in trouble or bad press he would do some slapped together tribute for Taylor to essentially say, “see I’m not a heartless asshole.”
Something to note with safeties especially is that they may get a lot of interceptions that look easy, but the positioning for those picks are hugely impactful. They are in position for the interception for a reason, you gotta be very smart and very bold to play safety.
Sean Taylor and Ed Reed were briefly teammates at the University of Miami... played the same position... I've never seen a safety dominate a game before I saw his last game against Florida State University.
Those Miami teams had so much talent on those teams besides QB in those days. Portis, Frank Gore and WIllis Mcgahee where all on the same team at one point in Miami. Insane.
I was in the 7th Grade when Sean Taylor died. . He inspired me to play safety in High School as he inspired other kids across the country. . Man was a beast on the field on every level. . I cried like a baby when he died and i still am emotional over his death because he’s apart of my childhood growth. . That man will never be replaced. . RIP Sean 🤞🏾

Been a Redskins Dan since birth (1978) and Sean Taylor was my absolute favorite player ever. For the day or 2 that he lingered I was checking the news every 30 mins to see if there was an update on his condition, and it broke my heart when he passed. He could've been the best to ever do it. When they ask Safeties who enter the draft "Who was your inspiration, many still say Sean Taylor." He was an incredible talent. He had the body of a linebacker, the speed of a corner and the ball skills and intelligence of a safety. He was special and was taken way too soon.
Wish everyone understood that that’s EXTREMELY high praise for Sean, given that many excellent Skins players had outsized personalities during that time period -Army brat, moved to the DMV in 89/90, got to experience the glory days under Gibbs

Sean Taylor's short career was the brightest spot in the cursed Dan Snyder era. He was the best player the Redskins have had since the early 90s. As a Washington fan, I can confidently say he is one of most loved and missed Redskins of all time.
Glad you guys covered him. I’ve watched a lot of football players and there has been no one on the level spectacular like Sean Taylor. So much potential taken away way too soon.
My favorite thing about Taylor is that his most memorable play for me was in a pro bowl(all star game). Even when the game was meaningless he was out there giving it 100%
That first clip was Sean Taylor slamming into the Bills' punter Brian Moorman -- in an _exhibition_ game. He never turned it down. (Moorman ran up to him after the play and shook his hand, for what it's worth.) The first game after he died was against the Bills also and... firstly I wonder if it ever occurred to Joe Gibbs (head coach of Washington) to tell Dick Jauron (head coach of the Bills) what he intended to do; when the Broncos played the Lions and honored their retired star wide receiver, the recently deceased (and also gone too soon) Demaryius Thomas by lining up on offense with 10 players, they took a delay of game... and Dan Campbell _declined_ the penalty for the Lions. At least we didn't call a pass play. (Ironically it was the first start of one of the sentimental favorites for Bills in the drought years, undrafted running back Fred Jackson, aka "FredEx".) It absolutely breaks my heart that the Bills _won_ that game as well; Joe Gibbs accidentally committed a bench unsportsmanlike conduct penalty against the Bills and basically got the Bills within field goal range as well. (Rian Lindell was our placekicker that year. He was probably the worst kicker we had from distance since Scott Norwood even if he was automatic within 40 yards.) We didn't need it, there was no catching the Pats that year (that was their 16-0, 18-1 overall year), our draft position would have been slightly better without that win and Washington _did_ need that win that day.
@@paulfrancis9129 Well technically the Pro Bowl WAS an exhibition game but now that I think about it, it was _more_ relaxed than a preseason game. (If anyone doesn't know, and some might not, I say the Pro Bowl _was_ like that because it's basically eliminated due to nobody caring about it.)
Sean's fiancee is the niece of actor Andy Garcia who lived a short distance away. Sean was prepping for his fiancee and daughter to stay with her uncle while heading to an away game because there had been a rash of burglaries targeting athletes' homes. Robbers hit their house thinking they were already gone. Recently The Redskins presented a Sean Taylor memorial at the stadium that was so poorly executed that fans and teammates alike demanded owner Dan Synder to sell the team!
If you do NCAA running backs, one that always seems to get overlooked is Troy Davis from Iowa State, the only back in NCAA history to rush for over 2,000 yards in back-to-back seasons. Great channel - keep up the good work.
I had the honor of being at his last game he ever played. When your watching these stars play in any sport. You kinda make them out to be superhuman and in a sense they are. But the last thing you’d think when watching in person, is that your favorite player is about to be murdered in a few days. It just goes to show that there’s evil in this world and nobody’s safe really.

I'm a Dallas fan but I remember his death hitting me pretty hard, it was such a sad story. We had Roy Williams at safety at the time, another hard hitting safety, so it was always a good argument with rival fans about who was more badass lol.
He won a rivalry game vs Dallas on the very last play when he intercepted the ball and drew a face-mask penalty on the return. The clock had expired but the game cannot end on a penalty so we had 1 play and kicked a game winning field goal. Sean Taylor 21 carried that team
the best safety I have ever seen play, given the chance he would have been in the hall of fame as the greatest. The story behind the shooting was that he had a birthday party for his niece i think, who invited her friends. They saw the house he lived in and what they could steal and planned on breaking in while the Redskins were on a road game to New England I believe... but Sean was injured and stayed at home. When they broke in, not expecting him to be home, he grabbed a bat and attacked them to protect his wife and baby girl. They shot him in the leg and hit his femoral artery and lost too much blood. I still remember where I was when they announced his death. It was quite a shock since they announced just before that he was recovering. Just so sad on so many levels
Glad you boys checked out one of the Miami Hurricanes' great ones. He played in the same secondary as Ed Reed when he was a Cane. It was fun to watch those guys play for The U. RIP Sean.
There's no doubt he'd have gone down as one of the best safeties of all time. Heck, hes already mentioned among them & he didn't even play 3 full seasons. He was elite of the elite.
It's worth watching how that season progressed for Washington. Big comeback to make the playoffs. The number 21 popping up a lot too. The biggest what if of Washington fandom. 😢
Terrible shock to lose a great player and person such as this, but honestly, not a shock to lose a young man to gun violence in the United States. That's the way it is here.

Unbelievably tragic story. Probably would have gone on to be one of the best ever at the position. Not that this has anything to do with the events that cost him his life, but unfortunately the Washington franchise under Dan Snyder was a horribly mismanaged, toxic environment that could barely do anything right during his ownership. It took them nearly 15 years to retire Taylor’s number and when they finally did in 2021, they did it as a gross PR stunt to try and deflect the bad press they were getting over leaked emails that emerged showing the extent of the reprehensible workplace misconduct that was, and had been, going on in the organization. It was painfully clear that they were using Taylor’s tragic passing all these years later to try to cover up their misdoings, evidenced by the fact that the number retirement ceremony was announced soon after the e-mails leaked and only 3 days before the actual ceremony was to be held.
as a receiver.... you would have second thoughts about extending your arms and catching the ball when Sean Taylor was in the area, just like you would have second thoughts about swimming in an area where great whites were spotted. You know something bad could happen at any second. Striking fear in your opponent is a big part of being a safety. The QBs also didnnt want to throw in your direction, to protect their receiver and not throw an interception.

The team he played for was the "home team" where I grew up. I never was a fan of any of the home teams outside of the Baltimore Orioles. But I respected talent. Sean Taylor was a beast. It's sad that he left us so soon.
always hard to see someone young lose life so early, I wasn't a fan of Washington but the way Sean Taylor played football, the swagger, the toughness, the skill, the passion made me a huge fan. Was devastated to see him go so soon, glad you guys got a chance too watch this
You guys should check out Chad Johnson. Very underrated player, mostly because of his antics overshadowing his playing ability and he played for a bad team, still led the league in receiving for two years straight.
It's so unfortunate because he could have been the best safety of all time IMO. Everyone saw his potential from day 1 and he lived up to it and kept getting better. They don't mention it in this video, but the people trying to rob him weren't trying to kill him and knew him quite well. It was a party and they grew up in the neighborhood with him. They shot him in the leg, but it hit his artery.
People don't rob their friends dumb@$$ 🙄 I can just picture how the interaction unfolded... "Hey friend we just want the money, we mean no harm. We know each other remember? We will shoot you in the leg real quick so it's legit and we can have a beer after, no hard feelings?"

An absolute beast Sean Taylor was, the one hit the hardest on the team was Clinton Portis (they both went to the same college The University of Miami (aka The U) I believe he was in the same draft as Troy and I wanna say Ed as well in 2004. Jus gone too soon an automatic HOFer in my book he had the talent and skillz (yes with a z to emphasize his abilities)

It is absolutely classless that the Bill actually ran a real play when Washington did a defensive snap with 10 men. If you’re gonna do that, run it straight up the gut or do qb sneak. Don’t exploit the fact that they don’t have a safety by bouncing it outside.
Sean Taylor was one of my favorite players growing up. I started watching football because of the hurricanes and they had everyone. The day I heard Sean Taylor died I legit faked being sick so I could miss school and legit bawled my eyes out.

agreed and even ray Lewis and ed reed was saying Sean was ahead of them in terms of how their career was going they even mentioned he would have reached the hall of fame before them and i think wed win 1 sb if he was still with us
Been a while since his passing, but he was kinda long and loping with his stride... Met Sean a couple times in my late twenties... I'm 6'4 and he was probably about the same height? Not far from it
The best part of that very first clip is that it was in the Pro Bowl; the NFL's all-star game. As is the case with all-star games, the level of competitiveness is usually lighter and the you usually don't see a lot of heavy contact or hard hitting but Sean was way too much of a competitor for that.
21 was a freak athlete not sure he would play saftey in todays game with more money available at other positions and a generalized disadvantage to defenses in the modern game. Rip

Thank you so much for responding. I’m a disabled veteran and I live in a world by myself so it’s nice to watch you guys. It’s almost like I’m watching something with somebody. One thing you should look into is goalies before they were allowed to wear masks. Gerry Cheevers was the first so he wore a white mask and painted it every time he got hit with a puck in the face he would put what looked to be a scar on the mask. Whenever the PR heat was on Snyder his go-to move would always be some Sean Taylor tribute. And more often than not he'd fuck it up.

Glad you guys covered him. I’ve watched a lot of football players and there has been no one on the level spectacular like Sean Taylor. So much potential taken away way too soon.

My favorite thing about Taylor is that his most memorable play for me was in a pro bowl(all star game). Even when the game was meaningless he was out there giving it 100%

That first clip was Sean Taylor slamming into the Bills' punter Brian Moorman -- in an _exhibition_ game. He never turned it down. (Moorman ran up to him after the play and shook his hand, for what it's worth.) The first game after he died was against the Bills also and... firstly I wonder if it ever occurred to Joe Gibbs (head coach of Washington) to tell Dick Jauron (head coach of the Bills) what he intended to do; when the Broncos played the Lions and honored their retired star wide receiver, the recently deceased (and also gone too soon) Demaryius Thomas by lining up on offense with 10 players, they took a delay of game... and Dan Campbell _declined_ the penalty for the Lions. At least we didn't call a pass play. (Ironically it was the first start of one of the sentimental favorites for Bills in the drought years, undrafted running back Fred Jackson, aka "FredEx".)
It absolutely breaks my heart that the Bills _won_ that game as well; Joe Gibbs accidentally committed a bench unsportsmanlike conduct penalty against the Bills and basically got the Bills within field goal range as well. (Rian Lindell was our placekicker that year. He was probably the worst kicker we had from distance since Scott Norwood even if he was automatic within 40 yards.) We didn't need it, there was no catching the Pats that year (that was their 16-0, 18-1 overall year), our draft position would have been slightly better without that win and Washington _did_ need that win that day.

@@paulfrancis9129 Well technically the Pro Bowl WAS an exhibition game but now that I think about it, it was _more_ relaxed than a preseason game. (If anyone doesn't know, and some might not, I say the Pro Bowl _was_ like that because it's basically eliminated due to nobody caring about it.)
Sean's fiancee is the niece of actor Andy Garcia who lived a short distance away. Sean was prepping for his fiancee and daughter to stay with her uncle while heading to an away game because there had been a rash of burglaries targeting athletes' homes. Robbers hit their house thinking they were already gone.
Recently The Redskins presented a Sean Taylor memorial at the stadium that was so poorly executed that fans and teammates alike demanded owner Dan Synder to sell the team!
If you do NCAA running backs, one that always seems to get overlooked is Troy Davis from Iowa State, the only back in NCAA history to rush for over 2,000 yards in back-to-back seasons. Great channel - keep up the good work.

I had the honor of being at his last game he ever played. When your watching these stars play in any sport. You kinda make them out to be superhuman and in a sense they are. But the last thing you’d think when watching in person, is that your favorite player is about to be murdered in a few days. It just goes to show that there’s evil in this world and nobody’s safe really.
His story is so sad. One of the best to come out of The U, and that’s saying a lot!

He is the only player to be voted into the pro bowl posthumously. Also you can see alot of other safeties modeled their playing style after him.
I'm a Dallas fan but I remember his death hitting me pretty hard, it was such a sad story. We had Roy Williams at safety at the time, another hard hitting safety, so it was always a good argument with rival fans about who was more badass lol.
He won a rivalry game vs Dallas on the very last play when he intercepted the ball and drew a face-mask penalty on the return. The clock had expired but the game cannot end on a penalty so we had 1 play and kicked a game winning field goal. Sean Taylor 21 carried that team
Still one of the best endings to a game I've ever seen. That game was amazing.
It was really a sad day for football fans when he passed.
the best safety I have ever seen play, given the chance he would have been in the hall of fame as the greatest. The story behind the shooting was that he had a birthday party for his niece i think, who invited her friends. They saw the house he lived in and what they could steal and planned on breaking in while the Redskins were on a road game to New England I believe... but Sean was injured and stayed at home. When they broke in, not expecting him to be home, he grabbed a bat and attacked them to protect his wife and baby girl. They shot him in the leg and hit his femoral artery and lost too much blood. I still remember where I was when they announced his death. It was quite a shock since they announced just before that he was recovering. Just so sad on so many levels
Sean Taylor would have been the greatest saftey of all time imo if he stayed on the same path.
Glad you boys checked out one of the Miami Hurricanes' great ones. He played in the same secondary as Ed Reed when he was a Cane. It was fun to watch those guys play for The U. RIP Sean.

There's no doubt he'd have gone down as one of the best safeties of all time. Heck, hes already mentioned among them & he didn't even play 3 full seasons. He was elite of the elite.

I'm a Steelers fan but Sean had it. One of humanity's worst moments.
Absolutely *ZERO* doubt he would've achieved a Hall of Fame worthy career if he hadn't been murdered.
Unbelievably tragic story. Probably would have gone on to be one of the best ever at the position. Not that this has anything to do with the events that cost him his life, but unfortunately the Washington franchise under Dan Snyder was a horribly mismanaged, toxic environment that could barely do anything right during his ownership. It took them nearly 15 years to retire Taylor’s number and when they finally did in 2021, they did it as a gross PR stunt to try and deflect the bad press they were getting over leaked emails that emerged showing the extent of the reprehensible workplace misconduct that was, and had been, going on in the organization. It was painfully clear that they were using Taylor’s tragic passing all these years later to try to cover up their misdoings, evidenced by the fact that the number retirement ceremony was announced soon after the e-mails leaked and only 3 days before the actual ceremony was to be held.
This was football in the early/mid 2000s. Run the ball, stop the run, play defense , and if you have to - SCORE on defense.
as a receiver.... you would have second thoughts about extending your arms and catching the ball when Sean Taylor was in the area, just like you would have second thoughts about swimming in an area where great whites were spotted. You know something bad could happen at any second. Striking fear in your opponent is a big part of being a safety. The QBs also didnnt want to throw in your direction, to protect their receiver and not throw an interception.

2) DC has always been a fractious political environment, this football team was the ONLY thing everyone could agree on
3) Sean Taylor’s death (RIP) happened ~1/3 of the way into Dan Snyder‘s ownership; one of the top 10 worst owners of any sport team ever, maybe top 3 worst
The team he played for was the "home team" where I grew up. I never was a fan of any of the home teams outside of the Baltimore Orioles. But I respected talent. Sean Taylor was a beast. It's sad that he left us so soon.
always hard to see someone young lose life so early, I wasn't a fan of Washington but the way Sean Taylor played football, the swagger, the toughness, the skill, the passion made me a huge fan. Was devastated to see him go so soon, glad you guys got a chance too watch this
You guys should check out Chad Johnson. Very underrated player, mostly because of his antics overshadowing his playing ability and he played for a bad team, still led the league in receiving for two years straight.
It's so unfortunate because he could have been the best safety of all time IMO. Everyone saw his potential from day 1 and he lived up to it and kept getting better. They don't mention it in this video, but the people trying to rob him weren't trying to kill him and knew him quite well. It was a party and they grew up in the neighborhood with him. They shot him in the leg, but it hit his artery.

An absolute beast Sean Taylor was, the one hit the hardest on the team was Clinton Portis (they both went to the same college The University of Miami (aka The U) I believe he was in the same draft as Troy and I wanna say Ed as well in 2004. Jus gone too soon an automatic HOFer in my book he had the talent and skillz (yes with a z to emphasize his abilities)

It is absolutely classless that the Bill actually ran a real play when Washington did a defensive snap with 10 men. If you’re gonna do that, run it straight up the gut or do qb sneak. Don’t exploit the fact that they don’t have a safety by bouncing it outside.
Sean Taylor was one of my favorite players growing up. I started watching football because of the hurricanes and they had everyone. The day I heard Sean Taylor died I legit faked being sick so I could miss school and legit bawled my eyes out.

Been a while since his passing, but he was kinda long and loping with his stride... Met Sean a couple times in my late twenties... I'm 6'4 and he was probably about the same height? Not far from it
The best part of that very first clip is that it was in the Pro Bowl; the NFL's all-star game. As is the case with all-star games, the level of competitiveness is usually lighter and the you usually don't see a lot of heavy contact or hard hitting but Sean was way too much of a competitor for that.

Thank you so much for responding. I’m a disabled veteran and I live in a world by myself so it’s nice to watch you guys. It’s almost like I’m watching something with somebody. One thing you should look into is goalies before they were allowed to wear masks. Gerry Cheevers was the first so he wore a white mask and painted it every time he got hit with a puck in the face he would put what looked to be a scar on the mask. In no time that mask was full of scars. Check it out and thanks again for responding
