Brian Dawkins is what every safety wants to be. He got involved in every aspect of defensive football. He was great in coverage. He came up to play against the run. He rushed the passer. He had the mentality to play any position on defense. It just so happened that his physical talents lent itself best to playing safety.

Even as a Steelers fan, Brian Dawkins was a force and an excellent safety. (I imagine him and Ray Lewis on the same team givin a speech before the game….I think I would run thru a metal door for those dudes)
Brian Dawkins is the reason I fell in love with the Eagles as a kid. There have been safeties who put up better numbers over their career, but I've never seen a more relentless player at the position ever. Players will sometimes PAY other players to keep their numbers consistent from team to team. If #20 on team A goes to team B and there is already a #20 on the roster they'll either write it into their contract to keep the number or they'll politely ask the new teammate for the number. It's not uncommon for players to pay another teammate to give up their number. Some players though are so respected people wouldn't dare hold out. Hall of Fame bound players don't usually have to ask. Egos get in the mix sometimes. But if a Tom Brady or Payton Manning came to your team, they wouldn't usually give up their number. The polite legends offer to pay for the right to wear the number and the polite teammates defer to the legend. Sometimes they jsut want to be asked and not have it presumed. But if' you've spent your entire career with a particular number--maybe since age 5--it's hard to give it up even to a future Hall of Famer. It's a tacit admission of your place in the pecking order.
Good explanation. I’d add that, on certain occasions, they may not get the number because the team has retired it, in order to honor a previous player.
When a Hof type player comes to ur team if ur not 1 of the top guys on that team and a b dawk joins yall u give that number up out of respect. But yes other than that u sell it. But I guarantee b dawk paid for nothing
13:40 changing teams and picking your number is a tricky one in the NFL. It's according to how big of a player you are talent and publicly, if your number is being used by someone you can ask for it, pay for it, or just pick a new number. NFL also has "inventory protection" from players changing numbers and the players have to buy the back stock of the old jersey.
There were honestly so many great safeties in that era. Made me absolutely love that position. Ed Reed was the best ever in my opinion, but my guy is Rodney Harrison, an all time great. Thanks for the videos, guys!

So glad you guys reacted to the PHILLY LEGEND B DAWK! Watched him growing up, I remember playing madden always playing as him hitting that hit stick button! Much love
That stat where you are asking what FF (Force Fumble) stands for, since he's mainly plays defense, there was plays that involved him on offense. Like the stats said, he got a touchdown while playing on offense, and interception, a sack, and a force fumble in a single game. Doing a single one of those is hard enough but he did it all in a single game.
Thank you for covering, as a eagles fan we were devastated when the eagles organization let him walk. He was the soul of the team, he will always be revered in Philadelphia which is a blue collar city that is hard on its athletes, once you prove your a no excuses kind of guy the city has your back. The didn't cover the Weapon X/ Wolverine persona he had two lockers, one was Weapon X he used on game day. He would come onto the field in crouching and lunging motion to the cheers of the stadium, using this as motivation to hit the field. He has sometimes been present in the locker room since his retirement for motivational speeches. He lives in Denver now though, because his kids have settled there with friends, we lost a great neighbor when he was traded and moved from the area. Also he was slighted by the Hall of Fame, he was not a first ballot pick but had all the stats. He was picked the next year, him and Ray Lewis went in together.
He was also slightly insane. He loved football so much he couldn’t practice with the team a lot because he hits too hard even in practice. He was truly a force to be reckoned with!
Most guys will do it financially if they want to get their old number at their new team but it all depends on whether or not the guy will give it to him usually they do
you mentioned Dawk keeping his #20 when he went to Denver - that's usually been more common than not, especially for a star player. usually if there's already another guy wearing the number when the team brings in a star, it's customary for the younger/lesser player to offer to give up the number and the star player to repay the favor either in cash or a fancy gift. recently there seem to be more and more players changing numbers though. there used to be strict rules about which numbers each position was allowed to wear, but in 2021 they significantly relaxed the rules, so lots of players are taking the opportunity to wear single digits or other numbers that were previously off-limits to them
You guys should done this with the weapon x highlight video it was so so much better. You guys should definitely watch that one even if you don’t do a reaction video for it. But you guy’s reaction videos are still great to watch!

Dawkins is just a well rounded safety he literally does it all like people don’t realize how insane it is to have so many sacks as a safety, yea you could argue they sent him on blitzes a lot to get those sacks but still it takes amazing talent coming from someone who’s played safety and corner before hes a beast and a big inspiration!!

i respect that you guys are truly trying to learn the sport, like stopping the video and reading the little headers at the bottom. you guys are from england, i want to know what the NFL fandom is like in england? what teams do most people cheer for?
to answer the question "do players often keep their numbers while changing team": It really depends on the player, some will go to a new team and look to change their number, and some want to get their number back. Tom Brady: When going from the Patriots to the Buccaneers he asked receiver Chris Godwin (who had 12) for his number. Godwin actually changed his number to allow Brady to have 12 again As a note about changing your number after you've already been on the team, my understanding is that player has to pay the league an amount of money that would buy out their currently printed merch (shirts, jerseys etc), so changing your number costs a very different amount per player. These piece of information were just gathered by listening to players talk about this process, particularly Bobby Wagner was asked about changing his number, and said it costs too much to buy out his old jerseys
How did the people who put the original video together not show a SINGLE entrance?!? Dawk was every bit as famous for the way he entered the field at game time as he was for how he handled himself on said field during the game.
For the jersey number thing, it depends on how popular the player is. Players usually will buy a number off of another player if someone on the new team already uses it.
On keeping the same number: a lot of times a player will sell their jersey number to an incoming player so they can keep it. I’ve heard of a player giving another player a car to get their number
I’ve enjoyed (99%) of your various videos, but this one regarding Brian Dawkins was especially enjoyable due to his career but particularly his genuine humility.
My FIRST favorite player! As far as size, yeah safeties are typically smaller, but Dawkins was small even for his position. Great video and even better channel
REC = reception so REC TD = receiving TD. FF = fumble forced. FR = fumble recovered. sometimes as a defender you can get the trifecta of sack, FF, and FR on the same play.
@DNReacts Brian Westbrook is an amazing rb who played with dawkins and McNabb they had a chance to win a super bowl but lost to the patriots bc Terrell Owens lost the game for them
When star players get traded, it's usually for a salary dump, the age of the player/veteran leadership to a young team, or because they are changing things/need to upgrade different positions within their system. When a player goes to a new team, number will usually depend on who has the number in that location already or if that team has retired jersey numbers.
Usually players try to retain their same number. If a player already has the number, they would give that player a certain amount of money to give them that number if they agree to it.

Also he was slighted by the Hall of Fame, he was not a first ballot pick but had all the stats. He was picked the next year, him and Ray Lewis went in together.
Im a die hard born and raised eagles fans. Brian dawkins is my favorite player ever , he embodied the city of philly, he was my hero growing up
He was also slightly insane. He loved football so much he couldn’t practice with the team a lot because he hits too hard even in practice. He was truly a force to be reckoned with!
Most guys will do it financially if they want to get their old number at their new team but it all depends on whether or not the guy will give it to him usually they do
Forever a bird 🦅💚🦅
🦅🦅🦅
you mentioned Dawk keeping his #20 when he went to Denver - that's usually been more common than not, especially for a star player. usually if there's already another guy wearing the number when the team brings in a star, it's customary for the younger/lesser player to offer to give up the number and the star player to repay the favor either in cash or a fancy gift. recently there seem to be more and more players changing numbers though. there used to be strict rules about which numbers each position was allowed to wear, but in 2021 they significantly relaxed the rules, so lots of players are taking the opportunity to wear single digits or other numbers that were previously off-limits to them
You guys should done this with the weapon x highlight video it was so so much better. You guys should definitely watch that one even if you don’t do a reaction video for it. But you guy’s reaction videos are still great to watch!
At 5:29, to really understand how incredible it was for him to score there beating Ladainian Tomlinson in a foot race, you have to know about the greatness of “other” LT, if you haven’t done a vid for him yet that’s a must. Big fan of the channel, you guys are my goto after a long day at work!
LT is currently in a Discord Poll and doing very well so I think he’ll be up soon 🤝 Really appreciate that, love that we’re the go to. Thanks for the support 🙏
Hard boys from defensive secondary are next-level... Lott, Dawkins, Reed, Sean Taylor, Chancellor....
Gale Sayers - RB/Returner (Bears 1965-1971). One of the most electric runners in history. Famous for 6 TDs in one game. Blew out his knees and was forced into retirement early. Youngest player to ever be inducted into the Hall of Fame.
Great video!
Thank you, really appreciate it 🙏
this is my all time favorite player. B-Dawk was a player the offense feared. not only because he could make game changing plays but because he would break you and praise the Lord after
My favorite player ever! just found yall and enjoyin your vids!
Appreciate it 🙏🏼
One of my favorite Safeties behind Ronnie Lott, Troy Polamalu and Sean Taylor.
He is one of my favorite philadelphia eagles players of all time!
one of my favorite players all time, fun fact if you listen back he doesn't curse once and he'll make you run through a wall without a single curse word.
i respect that you guys are truly trying to learn the sport, like stopping the video and reading the little headers at the bottom. you guys are from england, i want to know what the NFL fandom is like in england? what teams do most people cheer for?
to answer the question "do players often keep their numbers while changing team":
It really depends on the player, some will go to a new team and look to change their number, and some want to get their number back.
Tom Brady: When going from the Patriots to the Buccaneers he asked receiver Chris Godwin (who had 12) for his number. Godwin actually changed his number to allow Brady to have 12 again
As a note about changing your number after you've already been on the team, my understanding is that player has to pay the league an amount of money that would buy out their currently printed merch (shirts, jerseys etc), so changing your number costs a very different amount per player.
These piece of information were just gathered by listening to players talk about this process, particularly Bobby Wagner was asked about changing his number, and said it costs too much to buy out his old jerseys
Thank you for the info, we really appreciate it 🙏
The other thing about Dawk is hes a god fearing man. He never cusses. He's as meek as a lamb off the field but on the field, he was an animal.
How did the people who put the original video together not show a SINGLE entrance?!? Dawk was every bit as famous for the way he entered the field at game time as he was for how he handled himself on said field during the game.
Brian Dawkins and Ray Lewis best motivators in the NFL that I have ever watched!
I wish they showed more of his hits
For the jersey number thing, it depends on how popular the player is. Players usually will buy a number off of another player if someone on the new team already uses it.
B dawn ed reed and Troy p are there of my favorite safety’s ever
Thanks for the video reaction! Love a great safety video
Thank you, we really appreciate it 🤝
On keeping the same number: a lot of times a player will sell their jersey number to an incoming player so they can keep it. I’ve heard of a player giving another player a car to get their number
Dawkins is a Legend in Philadelphia, we will always love him
Bdawk is my second favorite safety behind Troy. Absolutely explosive.
Loved covering the Safety position so much! Great watches these have been 🤝
Theres some bdawk momments that they left out of this video. He's definitely worth a revisit
Dawkins was a BEAST! Loved this guy when he was playing. An FF is a forced fumble.
He was great he’s a legend in the game of American football 🏈
I’ve enjoyed (99%) of your various videos, but this one regarding Brian Dawkins was especially enjoyable due to his career but particularly his genuine humility.
Love this, thank you 🤝
My FIRST favorite player! As far as size, yeah safeties are typically smaller, but Dawkins was small even for his position. Great video and even better channel
Thank you so much, we really appreciate your support 🤝
Wish there were more of his big hit featured in this one
"tonight" *giggles* 5 seconds later, ready to kill for BD
A safety you guys should definitely check out is Sean Taylor. He only played 4 seasons as he was shot during a botched robbery/home invasion.
Met Brian Dawkins in person once super cool dude
Been waiting for this one 💪
REC = reception so REC TD = receiving TD. FF = fumble forced. FR = fumble recovered. sometimes as a defender you can get the trifecta of sack, FF, and FR on the same play.
My fav defensive back ever
He’s so good!
Yes!! My favorite player of all time on my favorite football team of all time, The Eagles.
Usually players try to retain their same number. If a player already has the number, they would give that player a certain amount of money to give them that number if they agree to it.
They do often keep their previous numbers unless someone already has it or the number is retired
