Maryland too, we’re obviously mostly Ravens fans, but we usually have D.C. as our team for the NFC. Sean represented everything about the Ravens defensive mentality back then without even being on the team. We loved him too.
I still remember that day too, seeing that he had died on the news, I cried my eyes out that day. He was one of my idols, so young and he was just gone like that.
And I’m not exaggerating when I say I have never seen so many football jerseys in school as there were the next day after the news broke, just an ocean of Sean Taylor jerseys everywhere. Some of the kids who didn’t have one were going as far as wearing white t’s with 21 and Taylor written on the back with markers.

‘On November 18, 2007, burglars pried open a window to Taylor's empty home and rifled through a desk and safe. On November 26, Taylor heard noises in his house and, while investigating the cause, was shot in the upper leg by an intruder. Taylor's femoral artery was severed, causing extensive blood loss, and he died the following day. On November 30, four men were arrested. • @Bozemanjustin
    @Bozemanjustin 3 роки тому

If a player slips and falls to the ground he is still a live player and can get up and run
But if contact with the opposing team caused him to hit the ground that is a tackle
Even if it was just the slightest bump from someone's shoulder, that caused you to misstep a few steps and then fall to the ground. That is down by contact
A player can make himself down by taking a knee
But any other action does not down the player.
So if somebody catches the ball and slides on their stomach and then stands up and starts to run, but trips and falls onto their back and then stands up and runs again they are still alive player
This is why the opposing team will run over and touch the person that's laying on the ground to make it an official tackle, otherwise they could get up and take off at any moment

I just had so many comments so sorry for the manuscript of a comment here...
0:00 That was against Bills punter Brian Moorman in the _Pro Bowl,_ which typically has rules on how hard you can hit because it's basically an exhibition (nowadays it's been downgraded to a flag football game, meaning NO hits).
2:55 Chad Johnson is better known from when he changed his name to Chad Ochocinco (as in Eight and Five in Spanish, his jersey number being 85). He was a character, when he and Terrell Owens were on the Bengals together he dubbed them the Dynamic Duo. (The Bills wide receiver Stevie Johnson declared that he was The Joker... and in Cincinnati against the Bengals he scored a TD and raised his jersey afterwards to show he'd written on his undershirt, "Why So Serious?". /aside)
3:20 The rule is that either a receiver has to be sent to the ground by an opposing player, or if he falls to the ground himself (or theoretically _herself_ -- there are a few college players that are female, almost all of whom are kickers) they have to be touched by an opposing player while they're on the ground.
10:53 Reminds me of when the Broncos did a tribute to Demaryius Thomas a few years ago. They got the ball, and lined up with 10 men on the field, and took a delay of game penalty letting the clock run down to zero. And Dan Campbell of the Lions declined the penalty. I wonder if Joe Gibbs (coach of Washington) had gone to Dick Jauron (coach of the Bills), would he have done the same thing? Unfortunately, and I mean this even though I currently and probably for all time will have the Bills logo as my icon, the Bills won that game when Joe Gibbs committed an unsportsmanlike conduct penalty by taking two timeouts in a row to freeze the kicker (you're only allowed one) and Rian Lindell (who was well known by Bills fans to not have the range for a 51-yard attempt) hit a 36 yard field goal to win. The Re-Skins needed that win more than THAT Bills team needed it, it meant nothing to the playoffs or to draft position at ALL.
Finally... there's really nothing I can say about this guy that hasn't been said a million times. He was one of a kind.

2004 could’ve been the single greatest year of D.C. drafting history.
Skins took Taylor, who had he not been killed would’ve been the centerpiece of that team for years and possibly one of the greatest safeties of all time.
Meanwhile the Capitals took Alex Ovechkin, who went on to be (and still is) one of the greatest athletes ever and brought on a new era of dominance for the caps and for himself. Which so far has included him winning 3 MVP’s, 9 Rocket Richard trophies (an NHL record) and a Stanley Cup among many other awards, records, etc.
2 icons of their respective sports drafted in the same year, in the same city.

Sean Taylor was a freak of an athlete and Safety. At 6'3" 226lbs, he could cover, play in the box, play LB, DB or whatever you wanted him to. He played running back in Highschool too. He left it all on the field and wouldn't have it any other way. He would've been a Hall of Famer if he wasn't senselessly shot in the upper thigh which caused him to bleed out. By the time he got to the hospital he was as good as dead. I hope those punks who robbed him rot in hell for taking away a potential HoF'er. RIP #21

I was at the game after he died, which was only a few days later. It was absolutely surreal, and I admire his teammates for even being able to lace up their sneakers (okay, “trainers”) and play the game. Just look at some of their faces on the sideline.
I have a photo of the team on the field lined up without him for the first play. A grainy photo from my flip phone, which I will treasure! My dad and I each have the #21 towel which I will keep forever.
Sean has got to be considered an all-time great safety.

Cowboy fan but Sean Taylor was scarry good, like you didn't want to face him, they didn't show the hits. He would merc receivers going over the middle. For years Everytime I saw the Redskins it was painful that he wasn't out there where you knew he should be. He would have been one of the best ever no question. A lot put him there after just two years anyway. It was obvious to all who watched him play a game.

I wish you guys would react to some Brett Favre highlights or one of the little "documentary" type videos they have on him with all the good highlights on it lol. Or if there was just one game highlight from the whole NFL in general i could recommend it's the Packers vs Raiders night game the day his dad passed away and they absolute perfect game and precision he had that game was absolutely amazing honestly.

If a player falls down but isn’t touched by the opposing team, he can get back up and keep running. That rule is only exclusive to the NFL though, in little league, high school and college, the play is dead once you fall. No matter if you were touched or not.

He was injured and did not travel with the team, stayed home to rehab. Was murdered protecting his girlfriend and new blown baby, a shot to the leg hit the main artery and he bled out. If he wasn’t in such great shape he wouldn’t have made it the 24 hours he did. His Jersey was just retired this year. I was at the game against the Bills after his death, it was like a funeral. Worst game I have ever been too, but also the most memorable. At the time of his death he was leading the league in interceptions, but his hits and presence horrified wide receivers across the middle. Even though he only played for 3 years he may be the most beloved redskin ever. RIP Meast

Chad Johnson aka Chad Ochocinco is one the leagues all time best characters and he was a hell of a WR in his day. You blokes should react to him. His Mic'd up segments are always entertaining.

Yeah, in NFL a player can get back up again, unless he's touched by a rival player. And at that - the player with possession of the ball is considered down if one of his knees touches the turf.

3:20 in the NFL, you have to be touched by a defending player while you're down to be considered down. In college football, if any part of your body other than your feet or hands touch the ground, you're considered down.
