Would not stay there,eat there,nor have a spa treatment there. They were offered the best advice to turn it around and completely ignored it all. Pathetic

I don't understand the obsession with wanting a "luxury" hotel when it isn't realistic. Just do a clean, good simple hotel that provides great service. Most of us don't go around chasing luxury accommodations, either because we can't afford it or because we would rather put our money elsewhere.

Currently a Best Western with 3.5 stars and a few scary reviews. People are not happy. But I don't know if the brothers still own it or if they did the sensible thing; got a handful of rooms renovated, cleaned up the grossness in all of the rooms, and sold it to someone who knows how to run a hotel.

Unlike the genuine parmesan dishes you'd find in any, and I mean *ANY* Italian restaurant.

I think he spent more time styling and moussing his hair than he did in coming up with a sensible business plan.
That was his business plan... but nobody bought it.
This hotel reno is a shocking fail. These two are so uneducated in business, not a former spa owner, not a former hotel manager, or had any education in hospitality what so ever. They worked in a restaurant on a cruise ship. I dont think this show should have even considered these two and after seeing what happened, should not have aired this video.
Ken and Barry seem to be the only smart ones here. I wonder how much they sold it for.

I'm a business owner for many decades which included a hotel and restaurant.... multiple retail stores and more....
one is on a narrow clueless path and the other just follows behind.... that is NOT a spa destination....
the place is filthy! dark, dank, out of date and more.....
every room needs to be redone unless they are going to rent them by the hour..........
the awnings were a waste.... and the color will stain easily....
if they dont change their mind sets.... they will fail miserably....
i dont give three craps if you did skin care in the past..... this is not the place to do it.... you should have gotten a building where you could do that at.... not this "hotel" its not at the level for it.... its worse than a motel 6!
This has been the most agitating, frustrating and annoying video I have watched in awhile. Rod is ridiculously unrealistic. As this aired, there is no way I would stay in that place. They would do well to listen to Ruth, instead of Rod. He is leading them astray. Yes, it is all about Rod.
I was shocked the inspector slept there. I would definitely not.
Very sad looking place from beginning to end. It needs owners with good taste, a realistic vision, and deep pockets to make the many improvements desperately needed.

yep, they had no idea. from top to bottom /inside out they were clueless and they were NOT keen to listen and NOT keen to learn from Ruth. they were lazy !!
This was a train wreck from the beginning. They should have sold their homes and truly invested in their hotel. That hotel almost needs to be torn down. These guys are not business men. They are workers in a restaurant.
6 weeks to do the spa room ? I honestly could have done the whole thing in 5 hrs

Olive oil is not to deep fry food, not only because is expensive, but because has a very specific taste that can be overpowering.
And because it becomes bitter when cooked at high temperatures required for deep frying.

You're so right & its why I have to buy Light olive oil, to avoid that taste. Plus he...lied :(

I did some searching online to see if the owners had continued to make improvements. Apparently they have. But the improvements must have happened recently, because there are some scathing reviews of the place on TripAdvisor. The fact that the hotel owners left nasty replies to those reviews does not make me think more favorably of them. And the restaurant still looks like a dungeon.
I agree regarding nasty replies. They could simply request that the customer call them and they would do an intensive review of the room for any issues and address those right away. Then offer some sort of partial refund. Nasty replies give me the impression they do not take concerns seriously.
Since I am not from the UK, if I was to visit Blackpool, I would prefer spending more and have a fine breakfast. However, if I lived in the UK and I was on Bank Holiday, I would consider a more economical place to stay.
Thanks for doing that research so I dont have to! I could see from their trial at the nice restaurant that they weren't hospitatality types. The one with the grotty goatee has no elbow grease or gumption. The other guy seems nice but sedated. No bueno.
I don’t think many in Blackpool would want luxury hotel or a spa treatment at a run down hotel. A spa hotel needs,
A pool, hot tub, massages, & beauty treatments, and these guys are never going like the other luxury hotels.
I looked online and the hotel isn't in business. The only entries on a Trip Advisor website are 12 years old and the comments are all negative.
Did they think the same customer would want to follow a "spa treatment" with a "parmesean?"

The problem is that neither man wants to run a hotel. One wants to run a restaurant; the other wants to run a spa. They need to narrow their scope, sell the hotel, and acquire facilities that will allow them to run a restaurant and a spa. Even then, they would need to do the necessary work to make people want to visit. In this case, they really needed to take the whole place down to the studs and start over with new structural, electrical, plumbing, heating, and air conditioning. That place looks like a firetrap. I wouldn't even make it to the room before I had to turn around and leave. I certainly wouldn't be able to make myself sleep there. I'd be awake, looking for the nearest fire escape.
It is truly disgusting. I felt like washing my hands just seeing the place 😂
This is why there will always be good hotels and bad hotels, not everyone is ready to listen and work on it.
I don’t recall Rod mentioning that he is a licensed esthetician when he said his dermabrasion device could penetrate deep enough to draw blood. He should have opened a spa in an existing hotel like the Cavendish, but only after he gets the esthetician’s license. It always amazes me that these folks don’t go to work learning their new trade and checking out their successful competition before jumping in risking everything.

They could have saved a ton of money by just stripping away all the junk and making a Scandinavian look: uncluttered and focus on making it look clean. The hallways look like a scene out of a horror movie with visions of an axe murderer hiding behind the doors.
Good suggestion to adopt the sleek, clean Scandinavian look. Northern girl, I think your hallway axe murderer works in the spa room drawing blood with dermabrasion machine, lol.
I know this look is in vogue right now but this is Northern England and I am not sure Scandinavian chic would be popular here. Not saying Northerners are not sophisticated but the folks who go to Blackpool (and I am one of them!) are decidedly un-sophisticated. I would think a simple but clean room scheme would work.
"Parmesans" - standard pub/cafe fare in Australia, called 'parmies' - which is actually short for parmigiana...They're great. Maybe some backpacker went back to England and couldn't quite remember the name.. or the proper recipe.. those Blackpool ones looked rather substandard.

The guys bought a run down flop house. Only for a spa room. He must of took/bought a mail order class on spa treatment . All I can say, nobody will go there, nobody. This episode saddened me.
Looks like the bar has been separated from the hotel and the hotel is under new owners. I looked it up and the front of the hotel is different now.

It was difficult to find info about "TB” online but from what I gathered it was taken over by Best Western at some point. It might have changed ownership more than once. There were some very immature owner responses on Trip Advisor to the one star reviews. Not sure if it was a newer owner but those brothers were really 🤯

One step into that dirty looking building for a sap treatment and I would turn and run away. Why would anyone get a beauty treatment in a dump of a building. They got it all back a$$word. Poor Ruth. Does anyone know if they actually made a go of it? They should just sell it and buy a spa if that’s what they find most important.
I love her energy so much. I am glad alex polizzi got her show, but I feel like there was room for both of them, because it's just two very different approaches

I make over 6 figures and don't even think about spa services when I travel. Growing up poor might influence my choices, but honestly, I don't think most working-class folks consider getting spa treatments while traveling. They're more likely to check out local options before they travel - if they consider them at all.
I thought it was VEAL Parmesan an Italian dish. Sad.
When advertising your skin treatments to people you DO NOT mention your equipment can draw blood if incorrectly used. You emphasize the safety and benefits it can provide and hire a licensed esthetician to manage treatments. You also need insurance out the wazoo just in case of mishaps. One lawsuit and you'd lose the entire building. And everybody's licenses need to be prominently hung.

I hate hotels that have layers of paint to diguise the old finishes. Theyr'e fooling no one on the tourism board who looked aghast at the hosts' amatuerism. The hotel needs a designer, a project manager, a construction crew and an overall down-to-the-frame refurbishment. Undoubtedly a budget and a bank loan too. But this looks more like someone's hobby than a hotel.

This is an nice idea, but not this hotel, not if still dirty.
We had a series on hotels here in the states with exactly the same type proprietors and dirty and crumbling buildings. Even with help, they remained ugly. I miss the premise of the show, but not the unwillingness of the owners. The DIY teachings were excellent.
Watching this i am nervous.

Even if they spent £1000 per room renovating 10 rooms they could then be with a decent coming in. £2000 left and they could do out the dining reception and give the stairs a coat of paint. As the money comes in they could afford to get professionals in to upgrade one room at a time. It's not brain surgery. Just common sense.

Rod needs to open a day spa and just get out of the hotel business. He is clueless, however, and I don't think he'd succeed. For the record, I used to travel a lot for work. Stayed in many fancy hotels. Never once did I use their spa facilities.

Just disgusting, filthy dirty and they are focusing on a luxury spa! To bring in professionals to do the actual treatments would negate any profit, why they insisted on focusing on this when the rest of the place was disgusting is beyond me.
The minimum requirement is a clean, spotless toilet/bathroom.
The hospitality business is for people with passion and a genuine desire to provide comfort for strangers. These guys have no experience and just see dollar signs. The place gives me the creeps. 4 star????

I looked online and they didn't make it. There is no website for the hotel online or any other information.
Looking at the trip advisor photos in 2019, you could not pay Me to stay there. Horrendous oversights. I say that from the point of view of being an excellent seasoned housekeeper from Cape Cod to Key Largo. As she says ~ cleanliness costs nothing. You need some basic knowledge of home & Hotel cleanliness standards to run one. Its a people & needs business & they weren't very good at either.

I would worry about a dermabrasion machine that draws blood…teeth whitening machine which may undermine the integrity of your teeth…and the hot stones the effect of which last for 6-8 weeks…what nonsense…how much insurance do they have? for the resulting court cases.?

An absolute fleapit..sticky-looking carpets and walls bubbling away underneath the 60s flock wallpaper..i could only see it being used as a knocking shop or a trap house

Couldn't find the web site. What I found was the domain name was up for auction. Found some pics from a travelers guide. The front is what we saw. But changed, no logo. So it clearly looks like new owners. Now spa, but a hug pool table in the dinning room. And a tiny dinning area. Some took quite a few pics of the stained ceiling panels. Rooms look much better. And pics of happy people enjoying themselves. It's a self check in and out hotel with no spa. Offers only breakfast.

The first thing I noticed in the quick glimpse we were shown, was that in the treatment room the bed was against the wall. That would never work in a treatment room. The colour wasn’t very relaxing either,
