i always thought under-pouring and watering down drinks is illegal.
got to agree with others on this, this video doesn't make you look great..

No, under pouring is not illegal! Bartenders have to get alcohol certified. Over pouring is what can get you in trouble.

If I noticed anything like this, the first thing I would do is report it to weights and measures and the Bar could get inspected and closed down.

As an employee of the hospitality industry, if you go to a table in a restaurant or bar or wherever and see that glasses are empty/low but still wine in the bottle, the BASIC service standard is to top up/refill the glasses. It shows professionalism and iniative to anticipate the requirements of the guest.

If you've ever worked customer service , you know that he's not just being a dick. Nice can only go so far & some people truly are astonishingly rude.
Honestly , I give him props for sharing all these things. It gives us the power to be more aware & a reminder not to be a jerk.

The way you explain it sounds like its from personal experience. If someone is being obnoxious or unruly, you refuse service. If they continue, you call the cops. If someone stiffs you, get over it, don't sacrifice your integrity for cheap spite.

I have had a bartender give me a soda water instead of a vodka and lemonade &took about 10 mins to fix the problem. Pretty much the full management didn't believe me and had a sip.. Like the fucking glass was full.. Hardly bullshitting.

I have done most things mentioned in the video on a few occasions to very annoying and rude customers but the key to doing these things is the type of bar or environment you're working in. I previously worked in a nightclub for 4 years where the majority of the crowd was made up of very drunk and rough locals. this is where I learned to get my own back on customers who were just plain rude or absolute pricks.. I had a guy one night who came in and had won quite a sum on a lottery ticket but he thought because of his new fortune that the world revolved around him. it was a busy night and he thought that whenever he arrived at the bar that I should stop what I was doing and cater to him because he was leaving me with big tips(which he was doing so just to show off his wealth to impress drunk girls) he was drinking double vodka redbulls which costed 14.60 a go and then was buying shots for whatever group of girls were at the bar at the time hoping to score one of them, the girls were creeped out by him and he was pissing me off looking to get served every 3 minutes at a very busy bar (I was the only barman at the time serving to 250+ people on a bar with 3 sides) in general a shot is priced at 5€ per shot so knowing he would leave me with whatever change was leftover( he would pay with 50's or 100's) I would make him the 10 shots he asked for but I would make them with 4 shots of tequila, 1 shot curacao syrup, lime juice shaken on ice. this meant I could charge him 5€ per shot=50€ that cost only 20 to make(30€ tip for me) his double vodka redbull on top is 64.60 he pays with a 100 bill and tells me to keep the change(35.40) so I got 64.40 through one transaction off of him multiple times in one night but he never knew. I've also punched a customer in the face on one occasion it was a highly stressful and busy night, our small club(usually containing 2-4 hundred people) was filled with up to 600 hundred people and we were flat out on the bar which was about 4 deep(with three sides) as I was serving a female her drinks a very intoxicated male in his late 30's grabbed my shirt and pulled me over towards him(he completely caught me off guard and caused me to drop like 30€ worth of spirits) he starts shouting his order at me so I immediately clocked him between the eyes and put him out, I then got my radio and got a doorman to remove him.. the key is I could get away with these things in a nightclub because the customer is too drunk and stupid to know better. I now work in a bar/restaurant connected to a 4* hotel where you can definitely not do these kinds of things and definitely not punch a customer. what I'm trying to point out is not all bars are the same if you're on a bar that promotes high standards of service you have to bite your lip and agree with a customer but if your in a nightclub/bar that is full of intoxicated assholes that have no comprehension of what they are doing and won't remember a thing in the morning you can basically do what you please with them. and btw if you haven't worked in the bar trade and you're commenting that all this is illegal and very unprofessional you should try step into our shoes and see what we have to put up with, working in a bar with drunks is very different to working in retail with people who are grocery shopping of course you wouldn't short change to someone who is actually capable of reading their receipt.

If this guy is still working in the trade he should be removed from the industry right now! I've been within the industry for over 5 years now working as a waiter, bartender, supervisor and manager in all forms or bars, clubs, restaurants and cocktail bars. Every single one of these points are irrelevant to a bartender, if a customer pisses you off you have every right to not serve them, but if they aren't over the limit then get someone else to serve them instead, if you over charge someone you have broken the law, if you have shortchanged someone that is breaking the law, if you have under poured a spirit that is breaking the law. When someone has been admitted into the bar and you do not have door staff then yes it is your obligation to ID that person, BUT once that person had been ID'd and it has been confirmed that this person if legal to drink then you CANNOT ID that person again, it is simply bad for the customer bad for the staff and makes you look like a bunch of assholes.

You can tell who the people that never worked in a bar and get royally annoyed bu customers are. Guys you don't realise how horrible/annoying some customers are. Real talk though, I just refuse service. I'd rather they just fucked off somewhere else than have them in my bar.

its easy to underpour. Just use a speed pour without the jigger. Pour both the spirit and the mixer together, stop hen the glass is full.

Bartenders are customer servants as many others. Customer is always right? Doesn´t apply to bartenders? Someone in the supermarket would never over charge or anything like that, why bartenders have freedom to do everything they want wtf? Sry for bad english

+Trafalgar Law hahaha agreed, yeah right the costumer is king... i heard that one before :-P, but remember the bar tender is emperor, and the chef is god, at least in the bar, and those 2 stick together like glue.
but the trick is to let the passant feel royal, so they tip and buy more, but if the passant try's to revolt, we have the power to ruin your evening, and no yelp comment wil stop us.

I totally get all these same ideas in my head when serving an ass hole at the bar. I don't carry them out though 'cause I just wouldn't expect that if I were drinking. Bad times though when you pour someone a drink and they aren't convinced it's a double when you've poured it right before their fucking eyes!

*A good bartender can under pour whilst a customer is looking at the measure*
a good bartender can free pour so the customer doesn't know what is and isn't poured right ;P

    • @AttitudePark
      @AttitudePark 9 років тому

+Rob Camp That's why I free pour. Well, I mean, where I live there is no legal measures anyway so the standard single shot is about 50ml, but because I free pour I could easily just get bigger ice cubes or a skinnier glass just to make it look like a large measure

My rule is, always be nice, unless they aren't doing their job or are lazy. If the bartender would rather shoot shit with his buddies for five minutes before serving me, guess what, no tip. If I've been waiting for five minutes and you serve someone before me, guess what, no tip. Shit goes both ways.

I'm a bar tender and yes under pouring is illegal. Watering down a drink is not ok either. If you are a good bartender then you know to serve all customers a glass of water with their drinks. Not beer or shots... Any drink should come with a glass of water. Especially if their drinks are on the rock with nothing else added to the liquor.
I have seen two of your videos... And you piss me off more then a drunken out of hand or even rude customer. Take pride in what you do. Yes you can have stressful days where you are busting your ass behind the bar and everyone is complaining about your time and speed. A good bartender knows when to ask for help from a bar back and knows how to keep their bar happy and clean..... Man up....
