Restoration Of An Old Lost Drawknife Tool

- Hello folks! Today I want to show you a new restoration of an old drawknife. This is a traditional woodworking hand tool. I found it among the old metal. I don't have such a form of this tool, so I decided to buy it and restore it.
Firstly, I removed the old handle from the tool and realized that the object was really old. To remove rust, I used a special liquid, as usual. Then washed, dried and rubbed with oil. I treated the surface of the tool with a wire iron brush and then began to sand with sandpaper. I made a new bevel and sharpened the drawknife. The most interesting thing in the process of sanding, I found the stamp of the master. Two letters, first and last name, it was hidden under a layer of rust.
To make the handles for the tool, I used beech wood and a wood lathe. The tips are made of copper. As always, I made an interesting test for you. Thanks for attention.
Sincerely, Alex. Thanks for attention!
Good luck and health to everyone! With best wishes, Alex!

How she will be glad of this comment)
An amazing restore on a unique tool! It was good to see two videos in one week from you! 👍👍

Two restorations in one week, epic! Was such a functional tool at the end, great job!! 👌👌
Thank you)
As an American combat veteran, I struggle with emotional issues and can get depressed. Your videos always make me laugh. Great restoration as usual!
Thank you very much for your attention. I wish you good luck and good mood. I will try to convey more positivity to you through my videos. ^_^
Great video as always! You are my favorite restoration man. I watch others but you are the best. Love your humor & i notice you are speaking good English. Stay well my friend!
Thank you very much for your warm and kind words ^_^
Thanks for humor in your videos! ❤👍
Man o man, all the sanding by hand 😱 Great Job!😃👍
that was some very fine steel to hold an edge the way it did. Not a complicated restoration but definitely a satisfying result. 😁👍🇺🇸
Thank you Paul! ^_^
Never seen a drawknife quite that rounded someone must have had one hand made, for a specific reason. Great job looking forward to your next video as usual, I could watch you for hours.
Thank you so much! Glad to read ^_^
If I had to guess, I say Mrs. S&T was saying "Are you kidding me?!?!?" When you wanted to clean the drawknife. Yet another great restoration of a tool that will bring you years of service.
Hello! yeah, exactly due to she doesn't like it when I wash dirty tools there)). Thank you for attention!)
I hope you kept that one! Beauty of a tool. Always wanted a drawknife
Very good video👍
That test! Like a hot knife through butter, that restored draw knife is a beauty! Bravo, Mr Screws & Tools!
....nice to meet your wife..
Sometimes she flashes in my videos)
I knew that you had your food channel as well as this one. But, I did not know that you also were active on onlyfans 🤣
Fascinating old tool! (You could use it to peel a watermelon, too, you know.) :D Also, always love it when the UA-cam button on your wall makes an appearance!
Thank you so much! Very kindly ^_^
This little bank of yours besides the garden is diserving long time ago a restoration and a monument. It's perhaps the best friend of you and so useful as your right hand, man! 😊 As ever, I enjoyed this video. Am I right if I say that you improved your workshop? 🤔 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻 Ovations from Tucumán, Argentina.🇦🇷

Nunca había visto una herramienta así. Muy interesante
I hope that's a "Keeper" and not a "Customer" !
Nice tool, nice job.

Talent and humor 👍😃 the best Channel my Friend.... Greetings from Belgium 😉🇧🇪🖐️
Thank you so much! ^_^
Good one👌!
Was that axe haft you carved from one of the axe restoration videos? I like seeing knives and tools you restored being used in your other videos. It shows you truly appreciate the things you restore. 👏😊
Amazing work as per usual!
Very good
It’s perfect
Beautiful restoration. Also, it will prove to be very useful in making future handles. Great job.
Thank you)
Excelente trabalho
No Beep-Beep...
No Curtain Cat...
No cooking at the end...
And yet, restoration was an astounding success! How is that even possible?
Great job, as usual, I guess we'll be seeing this drawknife in upcoming restoration videos.
Hahah)) Thank you! I just forgot!)) It won't happen again

Excelente! Saludos desde Argentina
The drawknife could be for making barrel staves.
Very nicely restored!
Greetings Tino
Thank you)
tidy job and another excellent addition to your toolbox, should be very useful to you
Thank you)
I was wondering for the whole video "what is it used for?" Now I see you could build a log cabin with this - it's like a giant version of a spokeshave. PS love the lathe! They are awesome!!
helow there to your wife..nice work.
Very cool.😊
Thanks)
Great restoration. With the radical amount of curve in the blade, I was wondering if this tool might not have been used in bowl making, like dough troughs and the like.
I wondered at that too. Perhaps he had it upside down?
Hello, thank you for attention. This model of drawknife it will be convenient for various operations in carpentry: precise fitting of logs to size, quick removal of material, as well as sampling of recesses.
@@ScrewsAndTools I saw your demonstration, and was impressed at the ease of debarking your piece. I would have used the simple convex one for that, but your result was much the same..and I love the feel of the old hand tools like that. Has more soul or character or something. Maybe my ancestors whispering to me?
@@mred8002 I also like it when you feel old vintage worn handles and not polished metal)
@@ScrewsAndTools Yes! Unless a handle is damaged beyond repair, I’ll glue and clamp to save them. But the ones that have been polished by generations of hands are the best. Character. Metal ones don’t have the same feel.
Ficou maravilhoso
yep, a sandblaster would really be helpful here
Im starting to think you have a plan for that rust! Great job as always however, think it's going to be useful in future projects!
Thank you for attention!)
Gostei da ferramenta. Camarada, como conseguir um desses seus adesivos,??? 👏👏👏🇧🇷
Olá, obrigado pela vossa atenção. Você tem Etiquetas do logotipo? (Usando o Tradutor)
@@ScrewsAndTools sim eu gostaria 👍👍
👏👏👏👏
Imagine doing your business, meditating while you wash the dishes, when a goddamn Kavkaz viking storms in with a chunk of dirty metal and tries to occupy the sink😂😂
Excellent work man, you ground and sanded it to a near perfect state. Your lathe skills are not half bad either! I could imagine that if you manage to keep this drawknife sharp it would be useful even at delicate work while shaping wood.
Have you considered using a wirebrush extension for a drill for initial cleanup? It would also allow for the rust jar to get filled more quickly 🤔
Hi, thanks for your attention and for the joke it was funny)) To be honest, I didn't think about filling the jar quickly. For some reason, I like to fill it manually, slowly using improvised tools, as if removing a layer of rust.
Can you do tranch knaef 😁👌🏽
I am curious what he will do with the Rust of History once the bottle is full. Thumbs up if you think he has a recipe for it :).
Good question, I don't know myself. Although yesterday I renamed the jar to (The Rest Is History). My subscriber and viewer from America advised this. There is such an expression as he said.
👍👍😉
I have a straight and a convex blade drawknives, but have never seen one with that acute curve. Might be suited for a spokeshave for wooden spokes and rims? Did you find out what it was used for?
Hello, thank you for attention. This model of drawknife it will be convenient for various operations in carpentry: precise fitting of logs to size, quick removal of material, as well as sampling of recesses.
😀😀😀i am the first person to make a comment on your video bro.......
What, no beep-beep this vid? Still a good resto.
I forgot, sorry))
@@ScrewsAndTools I'll forgive you...this time.😁
@@pfadiva Thanks))))
👋👍✊
i don't speak the language, but i'm pretty sure she said something like "you're not using my sink, buddy...out of my kitchen!'..lol
She said, you kidding me?)))
This drawknife Form is, as I recall, for barrel making
🤣🤣🤣
I was sure we were going to see our favorite tool restorer get his butt whipped today🙂
hahah))
Where is cooking time? You should make a carrot soup. 😀😀😀
Hahaha))) nice idea!
4:50 what is that glue?
Regular two component epoxy glue
