John Wick has gone from cult hit to action franchise powerhouse. Over the course of four movies Keanu Reeve’s John Wick, Continental manager Winston with concierge Charon, and The Bowery King have gone from puppycide to taking down the all powerful High Table. While the series has been an action packed martial arts heavy thrill ride including appearances by Donnie Yen as Caine and Mark Dacascos as Zero and even appearances by actors from The Raid, it’s also been a loving tribute to the action film writ large stretching back to Buster Keaton all the way to The Warriors. Here’s some of the best nods and Easter eggs.

Even the symbolic nature of John Wicks wife, Helen. In Greek mythology, Helen is depicted as a woman with unspeakable beauty, “the face that launched a thousand ships…and drove men to war”

AWESOME! While I had NO IDEA of these references, I think that's also why the John Wick movies a GREAT series! Because they used all the references in one movie, to make an even more awesome movie!

the Dragon's breath shotgun room clearing scene from the fourth movie was a tribute to Hotline Miami...also one of john's lines in the third film, "guns, lots of guns" was a nod to the Matrix....
