I wish my stepdad took your advice. He set up a bunch smart light switches and stuff and then promptly died so now all of that stuff is confusing and wired badly in the house
I recently learned what happens to a smart home controlled by home assistant when the ssd card dies! To simulate this situation just power off your HA for 3 days 😢
@@SmartHomeSolverI would appreciate a smarthome guide that has all the major categories and then suggestions on current best tech and processes. You could link to your videos too. Then as new tech comes out and processes evolve you could keep updating it. That’d be sweet!
One more question could you make a tutorial/video on how you automated your ring alarm to automatically arm and disarms upon device location been puling my hair out trying to find someone to explain it, thanks!
I have my Ring alarm integrated into Home Assistant. When both my phone and my wife’s phone are disconnected from WiFi then it puts our home in Away mode. You can do this multiple ways in Home Assistant like with the Ping integration. But I’m using the Unifi integration since that’s what I use for my WiFi and there’s lots of other options out there, you don’t have to use Unifi. I’ve talked about the Ring integration to Home Assistant and this stuff in more depth on my second channel so check that out if you want more info.
at first i was like dashboard only. controlling everything from my phone. then after like 2 days i got annoyed at using the app. now i almost only controll my smart home via smart buttons/ automation. and when i need to access the app it makes me feel like my smart home isnt that smart. so yeah listen to the first tip. Also living with my mom its hard to get her to understand how to use the app
This sounds good on paper. Seamlessness, WAF, and reliabilty rules fall prey to needing to be a helpdesk constantly as updates, outages, etc. impact ability to follow the rules (am I the only one?)
@@patzlVery good point! Unfortunately, that’s also kind of the problem, if that makes sense. I know a little about networking and have been planning to delve into Home Assistant but I don’t know where to start. Every tutorial I’ve found either speaks way below my knowledge or way above my knowledge. 😂 I think I’ll reset myself and go back through their documentation and see if I can get my bearings.
@@velvetjones8634 the fun of home assistant is that you can mix and match basically everything. I have started with some hue bulbs an sticked with zigbee. Good range, all devices connected to power function as repeaters, separate network from your WiFi for phones, laptops etc. If you start fresh check out thread + matter, these are the newest standards with pretty much every big player onboard

Thanks Reed. I'm following. 😊
Thanks for the support, Ron!

Take it you don’t like Arlo for cameras? What do you recommend? We have Eufy but right now the older model doesn’t seem to work with HomeKit
All good rules to live by.
Hey Reed! Did you use a vibration sensor to trigger the piano automation? Feels like it, thanks Reed!
Yes I did! It’s attached to the bottom of the piano.

You're awesome man. You're the best. I want your autograph.

I went with Google Home and or Alexa so I'm stuck. If I spend any more money My a$$ is grass
I would call these guidelines.
Rule 4, Smarthome shall be on a separate network
Is this real cuz it's like Bruce Lee stuff?
Is that what she said?
Analog is better than digital and I’ll die on that hill
Is anyone aware of an (easily followable) in-depth guide that’s available for setting up network(s) for home automation?
What kind of networks? WiFi? Zigbee? Thread?
Question is too unspecific :)
