Give Larry all the same modern advanatages in terms of nutrition, training, equipment (especially shoes), surgeries, recovery techniques, medicines, vitamins, drugs, travel luxuries, no hand checking, and trigger happy whistles, BIRD would be an every year MVP candidate. Now imagine him on today's Celtics team 😂 Bird's game, because of his shooting superiority, would be a 6'10 stretch big par excellence. Think Porzingus meets Joker meets Durant. His inside game would be ridiculous. And Larry could get up and down the court just as fast as any player today except for the real speedsters. AND he would be a top ten defensive player for smart anticipation, not to mention his passing game. And then the Larry mindset. His clutch shooting, etc. In todays game Larry's career lasts six or seven more years, and his peak would have lasted 3-4 more years. And that means 1-2 championship and 1-2 more MVPs. Same could be said for Magic, McKale, Parish, DJ, Kareem, etc.

Larry would dominate in any era. For me, it's not a question of if he could play in this era. It's a question of how these players of this era would react to his trash talk. There might need to be a whole category of therapists to help them cope!

    • @thesentinelsfootballchanne3212
      @thesentinelsfootballchanne3212 5 місяців тому +3

Jordan would eat this modern league alive. Why? Because of social media. We saw how competitively nuts he is in "The Last Dance". People don't think that wouldn't fuel Michael even more, to hear Skip Bayless or some troll on social media criticize his play LOL. "And I took that personally". Michael came back to basketball because some rookie on the Utah Jazz said, "Why'd you quit? I could guard you!". It's the way these players are mentally wired that makes them great. Their body was just along for the ride. That's what modern NBA fans don't get.

Couldn't stand baseball, football, let alone golf BUT BASKETBALL IS GREAT! I started watching the Celtics during the sixties, loved them. The best was when Boston TV stations broadcast college ball with the Celtics 1978 draft choice, Larry Bird! I went to Univ. of WI-Madison in '73. I got into fights with Buck fans because I was the only Celtics fan around for miles! Got back to Boston Sept.'79 - glued to the set watching Bird! Bought Celtics shares in the 80's. Larry Bird is the BEST PLAYER EVER!!!!! Jason Tatum, Jaylen Brown, Derrick White, Payton Pritchard and Kristops Portzingas are finally in the same league as the '86 Celtics. They need another Championship to reach Legendary Status! Difficult with all of the 'Sports Betting Interests' but do-able!

We were all trying to emulate what Larry bird was doing on the playground and it was impossible for us. I lived in Houston from ‘83-‘87. I was able to go to an NBA Finals game in ‘86. Boston vs. Houston. It was the game Sampson tried to fight Jerry Schisting.
I was 9 years old at the time. To this day, and I’ll never forget this, the 2-man game Bird and Walton played with each other. The unspoken brilliance between them.
Houston had the Twin-Towers, Robert Reid, Mitchell Wiggins. They beat a Lakers team in 6 in WCF. Lakers were in middle of their dominant run.
The Celtics weren’t as physically talented as Houston. It didn’t matter. That ‘86 Boston team was one of the greatest teams ever. They knew they were going to win. Why? They were the smartest team. With the best player in the league. Larry Joe Bird.
We sat close enough where you could not just hear the guys yelling, but talking to each other Bird talked the entire game.
I remember this vividly. Coming back from a TV timeout. Bird is inbounding the ball. Robert Reid is in him. Usually the inbounded never gets the ball back. Bird looks at Reid and says “Hey RR, I’m going to throw this ball in, McHale is going to set a screen, if you jump it, I’m going to that corner right over there, and release Death on you.” In the paper that morning, Robert Reid mentioned that his mother called Bird’s jumper Death. Because he never missed from the corner.
Robert Reid turned pale, and replied, “I’ll be waiting for you to swat that shit out of bounds”
Play starts. Sure as the day is long, Reid tries to go over the top, DJ finds Bird in the corner, he waits for Reid to get close, and shoots this rainbow. As he releases the shot, Bird starts spelling out D E A T H! Swish.
The people that overheard that looked around at each other in utter befuddlement. While the rest of the crowd was cheering or booing, about 150 of us were looking at each other in stunned amazement.
After we look at each other, like in unison, find Bird. He’s backpedaling down the court right near our sideline, and winks at us!
    That’s Larry Joe Bird

Rodman came into the league in 86 and Bird cooked him by his own admission in later years. Bird injured his back and Dennis learned to be a better player. He knew Bird had a very bad back by the time the Olympics came around but despite his championships Rodman was never even brought up as a team member. The contreversy was Isiah. No one gave a thought to Rodman instead of Bird and he has admitted it hurt his feelings.

I love your takes on old school basketball, Michael Jordan is the GOAT period! And your right Sean , Lebron is hurting the image of the L.A. Lakers by being about himself and his own legacy when it should be about the Lakers or whoever he’s playing for! It’s a shame to see! Love the content Sean, keep up the great work!

Larry Bird was cold! One of the GOATS! And even though I love Dennis Rodman myself, he's probably trolling! Because if Nikola Jokic and Luka Donsic have similar playing styles, and they're dominating with their high basketball IQ and fundamentals, Larry Bird would kick their asses! I mean he won three straight MVPs and 3 championships in an era where hand-checking was allowed and there was no 3-second defensive rule, and load management was not a thing either! Nuff said!

My personal opinion: Lebron James is one of the best individual talents in the history of the league. A phenomenal physical specimen who has worked hard to keep his edge year after year. Denying his greatness is just dishonest.
Larry Bird is a phenomenal talent because he can’t run or jump like Lebron but dominated the league in the mid-eighties on sheer heart, determination, and fundamental basketball skills. Larry was a great shooter, but also was a great teammate. A quiet leader who was very verbal against his opposition on the court. A great clutch shooter and floor leader and was just as great a threat with or without the ball.

I love your videos. And you showing the younger generations how great old timers were. They actually used to call traveling. Unless your name was Michael Jordan. But Rodman was great. Not stable and not exactly someone you want talking to the press. This is a guy whose friends with a dictator. I think about his incredible defense and rebounding.

BIRD ONLY PLAYED IN 897 GAMES…..JORDAN IN 1072…..LEBRON AND KAREEM OVER 1500….IF LARRY TRAINED WITH WEIGHTS AND NUTRITION AND CHIROPRACTIC BACK THEN HE COULD HAVE PROBABLY PLAYED ANOTHER 5-6 YEARS…..HIS BODY BROKE DOWN…..VERY SIMPLY

Larry held the Boston scoring record at 53 when McKale scored 56 (mostly against Kurt Benson, with Bird DELIBERATELY feeding McHale's hot had due to the hate Bird had for Benson).
9 days later, Larry scored 60 vs Atlanta.

Rodman says Bird wouldn't make it today? Didn't Bird torch Rodman? I guess Rodman's saying that he'd be playin' in the playground.

I always felt that the original controversy about Bird just being “another guy” was an indictment of the media coverage of him and not his skills. It’s weirdly frustrating that this never seems to be addressed or explored

What younger people don’t realize is Bird did these things in a league that basically allowed assault and battery, just started three point arc, and it was frowned upon, and most of his career with an ever increasingly bad back.
The physicality of the NBA at Birds time was light years harder than today. Bird would easily average over 30 now, and most likely would have been far healthier with advances in treatment.

Did I hate LB back in the day? As a lifelong Pistons fan what do you think? Is Larry Bird in the conversation for GOAT? Abso-freaking-lutely.

I am a Pistons fan, so I'll always love Rodman, but it is important to note that the Celtics were to the Pistons, what the Pistons became to the Bulls. Roadblocks for championship runs in which there was lots of bad blood. Pistons learned the rough house defense from the Celts. Detroit copied the not shaking the Bulls hands from the Celts. Both of which were used on the Pistons.
I think the skill set between Jokic and Bird is what people compare. Both big guys who can shoot and pass and rebound. But aside from Bird being a different kind of mentality than Jokic, I also think Bird plays a little bit more smooth than Jokic. Jokic isn't clumsy, he's just packing around close to 300 lbs. He doesn't move in the same way that Bird did.
Still if Jokic can dominate in the "athlete" era of basketball, being a nearly 300 lb non athlete, then so could Bird.

Make a ridiculous insult to Larry Bird.
In Rodman little mind ANY attention is good attention.

It’s interesting the different generations of basketball players. Larry Bird played back then he coached he managed, etc. And he still respects today’s NBA players. Today’s NBA players have very little respect for the game back then. Very little respect for their fellow players now. Larry Bird, Magic Johnson they have class. That’s something today’s athletes could learn from them.
