  • This video showcases the key role firearm and ammunition manufacturers play in wildlife conservation and specifically highlights the Georgia DNR and the value of prescribed burns on habitats.
American firearm and ammunition manufacturers - from small mom-and-pop shops to
world-recognized brands - play a key role in supporting conservation efforts through
the Wildlife and Sport Fish Restoration Program. The program is a public-private
partnership between the manufacturers of firearms, ammunition, and archery equipment
and a network of state fish and wildlife agencies and the U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service (USFWS).
Since its inception, over $25 billion has been generated and distributed to individual
    states.
The manufacturers who pay excise taxes provide vital services such as habitat
management, hunter education, improving or maintaining public target shooting ranges,

and wildlife conservation programs. In Georgia alone, the program has supported the
management of over 50,000 acres of wildlife.
One way the funds are used in Georgia is through prescribed fires to maintain and
preserve public lands and promote wildlife habitat and population. Prescribed fires are
one of the more affordable maintenance methods, but they do require highly trained staff
and the purchase of expensive equipment such as fire-resistant clothing, drip torches,
fuel, and fire extinguishers to ensure the integrity of the forest’s understory.
“Prescribed fires help preserve the understory for wildlife. If we lose that, no one
benefits. Not our partners, the wildlife, or the outdoorsmen and -women who are
passionate about making this world a better place,” said Diana McGrath, Georgia DNR
wildlife biologist. “Everything we have on the ground is for the public to enjoy. It’s to
improve the success of the hunter and the wildlife population, not just one or the other.”

What percentage of Pittman-Robertson taxes actually goes to conservation vs. siphoned off to a general fund?

Manufacturers only care about one thing gouging the shooting fraternity. Just look at the prices, especially reloading components!
The NSSF seems to be complisent in the matter.
