- We broke out the “fuck Chris Barnes” chants. Corpsegrinder gave a wholesome response. Then the beginning of Fucked With A Knife.

I honestly kinda feel bad for Chris, even though he's been a fucking asshole to these guys. But you gotta think about it from his perspective too man. Sucks he had to become such a dick in these latter years of his career. It seemed like on the Cannibal Corpse DVD that they didn't really have any animosity for each other.
I am sure there is no animosity, but it was a documentary, and not like they needed to be together for it.
Judging by where Chris is now as a vocalist though, they did well getting rid of him as they wouldn't be where they are now with Chris there, which is evident by basically anything SFU has done.

I saw Chris Barnes with CC in 1994 in the Rat Trap, Glasgow. One of the most violent pits I ever saw, shows used to be dangerous, as were cities in general. No cameras and anything could happen. Safe to say CC's rep attracted extra crazies. It was hard to purchase the music and the scene was truly underground.
Our time today is weird. Social media has made a lot of young men childish, resentful, insecure, bitter and overly concerned with the opinions of their peers. Terrified to go against the herd and risk total social isolation. Big mouths online behind anonymous avatars, and hyper-cautious nerds in real life. Even in metal. They've grown up with cameras ever present. Physically safe but psychologically stunted.
Such a weird thing to pile on a singer because he didn't make the cut and didn't go on to great things. I can't imagine Maiden fans chanting 'fuck Paul Di'Anno'. It's punching down.

You said it. He *was* the first singer. And was there for 5 out of the 35 years the band has been together (from 89 to 94) while Fisher has been stable with them for almost 30 years now. If anything, Barnes is that crazy ex that gave good head but also tried to cheat on you and Corpsegrinder is the longtime wife.
