I have a 2014 Honda Civic and all the buttons on the left hand side of the steering wheel do not work. Do you think changing the clockspring will make the buttons function again?
thinking im going to have to do this job this weekend, have had the airbag and traction control light on now forever but just yesterday i turned my wheel and heard a crack and then all my steering wheel buttons stopped working including the horn. guessing the clockspring right?
Probably a little late, but this is exactly what happened to me. Everything is fixed now except my menu went black and the menu buttons don’t work. Not too worried, just needed my horn to work for inspection. My airbag light is still on, but that would be because I have a missing airbag in my driver seat and along the driver side top lol
My horn works but none of the other buttons are working.i just had my ignition switch repaired. So the clock spring was unplugged but not removed. By unplugged I mean all of the connectors in there were unplugged 06:50 of those 3 electrical connections which is associated with the buttons on the steering wheel? I want to atleast try unplugging and plugging back in before I replace.
Did your steering wheel, hill start assist and vsa light came on the dash after this install? Removed the steering wheel and my dumbass yanked the steering wheel to hard it pulled the clock spring wire out with it. Managed to put it back together and all my buttons still work. However, my vsa, steering wheel and hill start assist light came on. Does it have something to do with the steering wheel angle sensor not aligned?
Really good video - am unable to reset maintenance and oil reset as the down arrow on the steering wheel left side is not working. Appreciate any guidance or work around so can reset maintenance reminders?
If it's just that button and no others, I would look at that panel. I believe on all years and trims those buttons connect directly to the iMID. You can check the resistance between pins 6 and 23 on the iMID connector, you are looking for 100 ohms with that button pressed. If you don't see that but you see resistance with other buttons, replace that button panel.
I’m just getting ready to do this job. The car horn honks on its own when the wheel is cranked to the left. Particularly in hot temps. My first thought was the clock spring but are there any other wires/mechanisms to check while I’m in there?
Hey, so I completed the job. Had a bit of trouble getting the bottom black piece to sit in there right when putting it back in (pieces before the wheel). Also, when I went to turn on my car, voila! The horn worked and so did my cruise control BUT now my menu is black (which it wasn’t before the project), and my menu buttons obviously still don’t work as a result. What do you think?
@@civicminded2141yes they are. The only things not working atm are my menu screen (which worked beforehand, but the buttons did not) and obviously the menu buttons. The fix DID work on the horn thankfully, which may be all I need to pass inspection, but I don’t like that my menu doesn’t work lol
my hands free buttons come and go. for example sometimes i can use my info button to turn off my air bag warning (airbags dont work) other times i cant. sometimes my menu button acts as my info button. sometimes my source button doesnt work but my "back button" or volume increase button acts as my source button. my cruise control on button sometimes wont work. im not really sure if this is the same as what youre doing here. does it sound like i should replace the buttons each assembly or maybe software? thanks in advance!
I'd say it's more likely to be the button assembly than software. You can verify using a CAN sniffer if you have one, I am planning to make a video on how. The ability to turn the airbag light off with the info button, however, sounds like a possible clockspring fault.
@@civicminded2141 thanks so much for your reply im back 6 months later as im getting ready to hopefully fix it. i did get codes on it though. b0001-13 and b0002-13. again, thanks for your reply. going to be replacing the clock spring and hope i can get airbags back. i can deal without the buttons.
My airbag light comes on randomly (between a couple weeks time). I bought a scanner and getting SRS code B000213 Open or Increased Resistance in the driver's airbag second inflator. Any idea what this could be? Owned since new, car never been in an accident.
I'd start by double-checking the connections to the airbag (with the battery disconnected). If those are good, I'd replace the clockspring and go from there.
@@amarfarooqi03 Start with the ones in the steering wheel shown in the video. If those are good, you should be able to identify other airbag connections by looking for other yellow harnesses. They should be easy to see.
Hi so I have 2012 Honda Civic es and when I press the horn it works but the check air bag system light and notifications will come on I’m able to get the code to shut off if I mess with the horn and shut my car on and off a few times . I think this may be the clock spring I’m not 100% sure but since it’s so cheap I probably will go ahead and fix that do you think that’s what the issue is or should I try something else I do know that The previous owner of this car did get an accident where the airbags did deploy so I think it was fixed I’m not 100% sure but when I do decide to fix o’clock spring I’ll look on that make sure that I actually have an airbag but any advice or help would be awesome
@@civicminded2141 OK and one other question so my torque wrench only goes to 80 pound foot is there anyway I can get the 88 out of that or do I need to go buy one that’s 88 and thank you for all your help
Followed your instructions and replaced the clockspring in my 2013 Civic, which resolved an airbag fault - thanks!

06:50 of those 3 electrical connections which is associated with the buttons on the steering wheel? I want to atleast try unplugging and plugging back in before I replace.
I believe the largest of the three is associated with steering wheel buttons.

Maybe. The angle sensor may also be damaged, unfortunately.

@@civicminded2141 thanks - it is just the down arrow, up, right and left works. Where would I find pins 6 and 23 of iMID to measure 100 ohms?
@maverickperson5443 According to the service manual that's what you should see.

The clockspring would be my first guess given that the issue occurs when the wheel is turned.

Hey do you know what size torq screw the air bag screws in case I want to replace them
Not entirely sure of the size, but I believe the Honda part number is 90134-S6A-A80. I know the Torx bit size is T30.

I’ve got a clicking noise when I turn I see the clock spring turning all weird no other issues tho I think it’s clock spring related
Why it don’t show obd scanner ?
I didn't have any OBDII codes from this issue.
