Welcome to Civic Minded, where owners of any of the numerous flavors of the Honda Civic (with emphasis on the 9th generation, 2012-2015) come to mod, repair, and make their ubiquitous vehicles their own!
2013-2015 Honda Civic Automatic Climate Control Conversion
This video shows how to upgrade the manual climate control in a 2013-2015 Honda Civic LX, GX, HF, or Si; to the automatic climate control used in the EX and EX-L. For this conversion, a black box device is used to "emulate" the manual climate control on the car side and a vehicle with automatic climate control on the control panel side. The video also covers the creation of the black box in full detail, from electronics to assembly.
Aidan, whose 2014 Honda Civic Hybrid already has automatic climate control, demonstrates the assembly of the device. Zach demonstrates installation in his 2014 Honda Civic Si.

Do you know if I can use the window switch for a 2012 honda civic sedan in a 2012 hondan civic coupe? I see the pictures on the internet and it shows that the pins matched (26 pins). The part # for civic coupe 35750-ts8-a11 and the civic sedan is 35750TR0A21. The price difference is a lot.
Do you recommend switching to Mobil 1 High Mileage (>75K miles) for a 2012 Civic GX Natural Gas Vehicle. Thanks!
Can you recommend higher performance (for heat )brake upgrade kits for both the front and rear of a 2012 Civic GX Natural Gas Vehicle ? I drive in Los Angeles, where traffic is often stop-and-go on the freeways. As a result, the brakes heat up significantly, causing a noticeable steering wheel shimmy when I apply the brakes. I recently had the OEM rotors and pads installed about a year ago. I would greatly appreciate your recommendation. Thank you!
Gracias por explicar también no hablo ingles pero me ayudo mucho con los subtítulos y voy siguiendo los pasos, muchisimas gracias por facilitarnos estas tareas a los que somos nuevos en todo esto.
My mechanic telling me that this generation hybrid is using cvtf transmission fluid and there is no need to or don't have transmission fluid filter for this model. Is that tru?
The hybrid does require CVTF (not HCF-2) and the filter is non-serviceable.
What kind of wire do you use to short the OBD2 port? Great video!
@benjaminsanburn7143 Thanks! Any thin wire will do- I believe this was 22AWG stranded I picked up from an electronics store.

Apologies for the late reply, but send me an email at aidancivicminded@gmail.com!
I have a civic with 300k on the speedo and rear drums, no issues, works fine.
Just finished watching this series and I think you’re a genius, btw did you ever finish fixing the window lock features?
Thanks! I did- it requires a custom PCB but I hope to make a video on that soon.
Does this work on a 2012 civic? They’re not too different I think besides body styling.
Hi- sorry for the late reply. Theoretically it could, however, the only automatic climate control unit for the 2012 Civic in the US market was for the hybrid, which would require some extra circuitry.
Completely unrelated question, but I’m about to wire in an aftermarket radio to my LX and I had a thought regarding the reverse camera on the iMID. I want to take pins 19, 3, and 14 and move the pins to my own female molex connector, and then do custom wiring with the male end for 3 and 19 into an RCA Jack for my head unit. What I’m curious about though, would pin 14 would work fine to trigger reverse on the aftermarket radio? Not sure what signals are used to tell the iMID to switch to the reverse camera but I imagine it’s the same signal a head unit would be looking for.
It should be. It appears to be a switch from the reverse light relay. You can probe it with a multimeter, my guess is you'll see battery voltage with the car not in reverse and ground with the car in reverse or vice versa. (do this with the car in ACC 2 and with the parking brake set). Let me know.
@@civicminded2141 I've been experimenting with it and have found on a forum thread that it does work as a reverse signal wire, however the issue I was having with wiring is finding where pin 1 actually is. I bought an iMiD harness online that is originally meant to add a reverse camera to the iMiD screen for EX models and was attempting to repin it to split the camera feed and signal wire out, though blew two fuses and haven't had the time to inspect the iMiD harness since.
@@wayveyx Apologies for the late reply- I think I need a visual of what you're dealing with. Can you shoot me an email? aidancivicminded@gmail.com

Is there an online service that can print the box for you if you send them the design file?
EasyEDA does for nylon prints. Xometry and Quickparts appear to do ABS, but not sure how much it would be. I'll do some more research on that. Apologies for the late reply.
Bro, I got a Honda Civic 2013 in this video shows exactly the way to do this task. I believe only the SI models have the option to un screw from the front but any other model between 2012 and 2015. This is the way to go. Thanks for the video..
I’ve been waiting for this for a long time. This is going to the top of the list of things to do for my civic!
Dang. I bought a temp auto control from eBay a few months ago and tried to plug it into my LX 2014 civic with hopes that it would work. As expected, it did not work. I didn’t really care for auto temp, just wanted a functioning light up screen on my temp control. I was really excited to see this video posted but turns out this process is super complicated.
@Kenneth-bm5zr Zach and I are working on a way to make it work without the black box, if the Si and LX support it.
Same situation bro😢😂
Wish I saw this before I ordered mine, I plugged it in and it turns on automatically, and it unable to turn off
Hello. Are plug boots different top and rear?
@@vephkhialomashvili3732 The boots are the same. The coils themselves are different.
Thanks for the input! I really like the custom steering wheels Carid makes but when I looked at the reviews I’ve only seen dissatisfaction on their other products like the poor trim fittings. It’s good to see the only thing I want from them is actually decent 🙏
Yeah F all that, glass cleaner and a rag, rain X in a bottle lol
Do the automatic headlights happen without any further modifications for them? I figured you’d probably need the blinker stock with the “auto” position for the headlights but you didn’t really go into much detail with it here.
I think the option needs to be coded on as well. I haven't tried, but if I get a chance to CAN sniff a vehicle that doesn't have automatic headlights, I will let you know.
@@civicminded2141 Ah, Alright. I recently acquired a 2015 LX and this channel has been a good inspiration for my future mod list. I will also try to do some research and see what I come up with.
If you go to 14:07 do you know what the cap on the switch is called with the transparent white line? I have diff make car but I’m trying to add backlights to buttons no 3rd party makes a plug and play backlight one. But my caps don’t have the see through line to let light through. What’s that cap called?
That's part of the button, not a separate piece. You will need to replace the switch assembly. They should be available from RockAuto (shown).
Sure miss the days of touchscreen actually being in the dash not just slapped on top the dash 🤢
How has it held up?

Great video Thank you so much!!! I was also wondering whether you know where the evap temp sensor is located on this car . My AC temp sensor is reading 419 fahrenheit on my scantool and Im not sure from what sensor it is reading! My scantool only shows one pid related to my AC temp and its reading 419 degrees and 0 for its voltage .I was wondering if it was the sunload sensor needing to be replaced ?
It sounds like your evaporator temperature sensor is shorted. I believe that is located in the HVAC assembly- I can double check later.
@@civicminded2141 Mannn If you can find that out for me would be great thanks I ordered the repair manual but it takes 2 weeks to get to me!
@@joebagofdoe4762 Hi, sorry for the late reply. The evaporator temperature sensor is indeed on the HVAC. From the looks of it, it's somewhere behind the glove box.

Do you use the same plugs and coils for the bottom that you do for the top? The mechanic at the dealership made it sound like the top coils and bottom coils were different.
The spark plugs are all the same (top and bottom, same part). The coils are different between top (rear) and bottom (front): Top is 30521-RBJ-S01 and bottom coils are 30520-RBJ-S01.
@@jgizzy tyvm!
How sensitive are the brakes after completing this mod?
They're about the same, maybe slightly less. That may only be in the hybrid though, it will be different for you.
@@civicminded2141 Alright cool. I have a 2013 4D LX and I was wondering if it would increase or decrease the amount of force I have to put on the brake pedal to achieve the same stopping power, stopping distance, brake responsiveness, etc etc. After all, people usually say that drum brakes are antiquated technology compared to disc brakes. The curb weight of my car is about 2800 pounds and I got about 160 pounds of stuff in the trunk (so about 3230 pounds with me and one passenger in it). Probably not much of a weight difference compared to your hybrid.
Yo, any chance you may have come across a video online where you can replace rear fog lights?
I haven't. Sorry.
What spoiler is that on the rear, I want one for mine
I'm not sure- it came with the car.

Awesome how-to! Thank you! I followed your instructions and got an aux wired for my Honda Civic 2014. I could use advice though. I get buzzing through the speakers when I connect a 3.5mm plug from my phone to the aux input. Do I need to shield the wiring I added behind the head unit...do you know how this is done?
Does the buzzing happen when your phone is not plugged in? If so, make sure the wires aren't passing too close to any USB or high-speed lines. I tried to shield them but wasn't able to get shielded cable.
Did your steering wheel, hill start assist and vsa light came on the dash after this install? Removed the steering wheel and my dumbass yanked the steering wheel to hard it pulled the clock spring wire out with it. Managed to put it back together and all my buttons still work. However, my vsa, steering wheel and hill start assist light came on. Does it have something to do with the steering wheel angle sensor not aligned?
Maybe. The angle sensor may also be damaged, unfortunately.

Very great explication! Man my window is like downing ver fast and “beating” it could be the desregulate motor?
The regulator motor? Potentially. It could also be the regulator itself.
Welcome back! Loved your video on converting the rear brakes on an LX from drums to discs. Not very fun to do, but worth the effort. It really confused the Honda dealership when I took it in recently. Just FYI, even the gas engines suggest using full synthetic - pretty much all 0w20 is full synthetic. There ARE some that are conventional oil, so always check. In general they are the cheaper ones but not always. If you are using the IMID for your interval it is assuming full synthetic so if you somehow got your hands on conventional 0w20 then you need to change it sooner (mine ticks about every 8k miles).
Thanks for letting me (and the community) know!
Next mod idea: power folding mirrors. Civis in malasya/indonesia have that feature (also electric seat driver side)
It will be good if you can show change cvt transmission oil filter for this car model.
My horn works but none of the other buttons are working.i just had my ignition switch repaired. So the clock spring was unplugged but not removed. By unplugged I mean all of the connectors in there were unplugged 06:50 of those 3 electrical connections which is associated with the buttons on the steering wheel? I want to atleast try unplugging and plugging back in before I replace.
I believe the largest of the three is associated with steering wheel buttons.
My airbag light comes on randomly (between a couple weeks time). I bought a scanner and getting SRS code B000213 Open or Increased Resistance in the driver's airbag second inflator. Any idea what this could be? Owned since new, car never been in an accident.
I'd start by double-checking the connections to the airbag (with the battery disconnected). If those are good, I'd replace the clockspring and go from there.
@@civicminded2141 Thanks for your response. Can you elaborate which connections you are referring to and where they are located?
