Many of you have enjoyed watching my videos in normal speed with no music so here is the sitting bench I made a few years back. I hope you enjoy.
Chris
Chris, you certainly take the prize for the most radical workout regime, which is only bested by the unique and beautiful piece of furniture you turned out. I am simply astounded by the whole process and appreciate the artistry involved. My hat's off to you! Thanks for taking us on this journey!
You are most welcome!
Man this is so special. You left the tool marks in too that’s what makes it so priceless 👍🏾🔥👍🏾🔥. It is gorgeous!
Thank you!
Walnut wood surprisingly warm and beautiful!!! Thanks Chris for a great job !!
Thanks!
Thanks for not letting this become a lost art. As a service connected disabled veteran who has had 2 heart attacks and open heart surgery with a quadruple bypass I don't think I could ever do this myself, but I love watching you do it.
Thank you for your service! I’ll keep going 👍🏻💪
Chris, just the man I am looking for. Just like you I only use handtools to make furniture...I love this....
Welcome!!
Hi Chris....a couple of observations: This is a remarkable (all your projects are) piece of work done with precision, thoughtful design, and utilitarian integrity; I'm happy you weren't whipsawed off the main trunk when you cut those sizable parts; the energy coupled with what seems to be your personal joy and satisfaction in your labor is something to be both admired and emulated. This is none of my business but what is the genesis of your personal drive and inspiration...I graduated from a Jesuit University and all I got was a very rewarding career....so I'm ruling out any epiphanies from Notre Dame! Best wishes my friend.
"I'm happy you weren't whipsawed off the main trunk when you cut those sizable parts" Am I the only one that was hoping for a Wile E. Coyote moment at that time? LOL
:)
I have a degree in Mechanical Engineering and my day job is a project manager. Woodworking is just a hobby for me. About 12 years ago my mom showed me a video about Dick Proenneke (look him up) and decided to try to make a bowl. It took 16 hours to make the ugliest bowl you've ever seen using hand tools but all I could think about that night was the next bowl I was going to make and then it just took off from there. I had never more than whittled a stick before that moment and then everything changed.
@@ChopWithChris Thank you Chris.....quite an inspiration. Best wishes to you and the family.
@@ChopWithChris Dick P. is responsible for many of us up late at night hoping we’d win that vintage hand plane auction on eBay! Great vid.
Bonus points for showing the pups. I think one of my favorite things about woodworking is the mixture of violence and precision.
Ha ha ha!
Chris the perfect bodger. I can't get enough.
Thanks!
The amount of skill, work and dedication that goes into these projects is outstanding!
Thanks!
Agreed. I love the rustic look all of his projects have.
Great job on that bench. Loved the puppies too!!
Thanks!!
Ho sweet! thanks for the show and of course your dog.
You are most welcome!
One thing I remember from woodwork classes at school was to rest a plane on its side.lol I enjoyed your video,it looked like a good aerobic exercise. Too.nice end result.
Thanks!
No nonsense hardcore excellent woodworking. Bravo!
Thanks!
Great job Chris, awesome looking bench and it looks like the pooch appreciated it too !! Loved the smiley face . Really enjoyed this video and glad it turned out just the way you wanted it to. Thanks for sharing with us. Fred.👍👍👏🏻👏🏻👋👋🙏🏻🙏🏻
You are most welcome!
An out-standing result; all of that hard work paid off big time. The choice of wood and the bench's design go really well with the table. Thanks for sharing your ideas and obvious skills with us. Best wishes.
You are most welcome!
Спасибо, было приятно посмотреть душевное видео)))

Thank you for sharing this with us.

That's an AWESOME piece of furniture right there!
Thank you!
Wow so beautiful! All with no glue!
Thanks!
Hi, Chris. Nice to hear from you. Amazing bench. It matches nicelly with the table. Thank you so much for sharing.
You are most welcome.
A remarkable talented man. He’s ambitious, dedicated to the traditional ways of the true process/ development from harvesting to the full completion of the project. The highly respectable craftsmanship shown here is so fascinating. For many of the younger viewers this must be a shock to see how it was done before the industrialization. I was so happy to see that there are courses available in colleges the very same process, intro into the era of the science of self sufficiency in in wood project in the country. I admire your tenacity, your wonderful work. I hope millions of people wood have the interest to do was you do and to broaden their horizons and teach their family and friends and so on. Thank you very much.
You are most welcome!
You are a true craftsman well done!
Thank you!

Благодарю вас!
What a legend! Good work Chris
Thanks!
Really admire Your hard work and Your skills! Awesome job - as usual! Keep going and take care! My respect.
Thank you!
Eye opening for me, who is somewhat at the beginning of furniture making. I've made rolling closets, bunk beds, king size beds with broad timbers, 100ft work benches, tables and so on, but never something like this. I think I romanticized the idea a little with my growing passion for hand tools. Watching you go through this (with a gorgeous canvas of wood) was an education. I learned what a scrub plane is, and questioned why you wouldn't use all Japanese saws when they cut so well and quicker (in my experience) than Western saws. If love to know why it you will. Also, do you have any larger katabas (300mm +) and have you changed your opinion on which saws work best for this kind of furniture making since making the vid? Gorgeous work Chris, that's heirloom stuff right there.
Thanks for the great comments! I guess I prefer to use a variety of tools just to show them off 😄.
Extrardinary, amazyng, congratulations
Thanks!
ooo i'm gonna make myself nice bowl o popcorn tonight and watch this longer version with a joy :) Thank you
Hope you enjoy
Beautiful!
😄👍🏻
Beautiful Bench, I Love your work
Thank you very much!
Hmm... *carefully looks the bench over end to end" You say you did it all by hand huh? "It's a little rough will you take $35?
That was my reality check when I tried to make woodworking more than a hobby lol
*edit I completely forgot to tell you how freaking nuts you are and I appreciate the enormous amount of HARD work that went in to this. It really looks like it came right out of the 1800's. Beautiful piece of heirloom furniture for sure dude.
Thanks! Yes - its hard to make a living at woodworking!
Tell them you found it in a barn and they'll pay $1,200.
@@ChopWithChris Gat Creek in Berkley Springs WV is hiring furniture makers for their factory. No assembly line. One maker-one piece-sign it when you're done. Even better they mill their own stock and deliver smooth boards to each maker so, Chris, you wouldn't need to go to the flea market for a handplane.
Ikea could make a bench for $35....
I found a walnut log by the dumpster one time. I've had a lot of fun with that log, including making a small kids bow from it. Very very nice wood.
I did something like this in smaller scale once... and above all I really admire your stamina.
"Mad Props!!"
Thanks!
Just beautiful! And the amount of time and work that went into it....wow!😊🐝❤
Thank you so much!
@@ChopWithChris You're most welcome😊🐝❤

Lovely work & skill , awesome work mr Chris 👌
Thanks 👍
Ilove your videos man!
Greetings from Brasil!
Obrigado!
I remember this video. It still impresses me. Do you have to train between big jobs to stay that fast? I can feel the lactic acid just watching you.
I try to do a light workout 4 days a week so I don't get soft.
Always love your work man, you do all kinds of handmade rustic furniture but with bigger, thiccker and heavier lumber without losing any detail. I guess you never need a gym do you?
Thanks! 💪
I bet that was hard work Chris, but you got there in the finish Buddy, great job look's good, have a nice day !!!.
Thanks!
FELICIDADES 🇲🇽👍💎💎💎💎💎💎

„Never hit an axe with a metal hammer“, that‘s what my father tought me, showing me his mushroomed tools.
Great job, man...you made my day.
Thanks!
If someone did that to one of my axes they’d be banned from my shop

Your pup seems so smug while posing. What a ham. Oh yeah. The bench is great as well.
Thanks!
love your vlogs and I'm green with jealousy i love hand tools we just cant find things like tapered awls and a lot of old timber framing tools in the uk those the i do stumble across in auction go for silly money bought antique shop owners who then mark up the price all the best
That’s a bummer!
beautiful
Thank you!
very good job, which will last for many years, longer than the yellow t-shirts :)
I have MANY yellow shirts in reserve!

That's awesome man !! What did you finish it with tungoil
Thanks. Natural color Danish Oil.
Another nice job. What is the bowl being used for, lettuce salad serving bowl for 10 people ? Or, in our family, lots of garlic bread 🍞🍞🍞🍞
Ha ha ha! It’s my back-up canoe.

Hello if you were new at this and wanted to get started what tools would you buy
What projects are you thinking about?
Hey what tool should I use to turn a log into a planter?
Like to dig a trench in it
Adze
Did you really let pass a whole year to dry the wood?
Absolutely Amazing!
Yep!
This is just my 2nd or 3rd video of yours. I'm afraid to say that I have your same "attack" style with wood. I didn't realize it until I see your videos. Compared to other online wood workers, we move like competitive wrestlers. (I'm only half your size, and probably twice your age. I have yet to get all the successful products and results as you, but I sure do relate to your pace and focus.) Stay safe and healthy! I feel like I would have been competitive in your "league" and style of tree-wrestling! :-D
I've never seen some of the tools you use - Slick Chisel - Wow! That's a big boy. I saw you use a hand adze, and then a bigger adze with longer handle, roughing out the bench legs, I think.
You seem to switch between half a dozen or more saw blades too. Please educate us on the varieties of wood you use, and reasons for your choices. Looks like you're in Mid America, maybe between Chicago and Michigan? Lots of trees, woods, varieties. Thanks again. 1-2-2022
Hey, what was the official looking certificate up against the wall on one of your work tables or desk? Graduate degree in Tree Wrestling? I'll have to check it out in high resolution maybe.
Ha ha ha! Thanks for all your comments! The certificate was the official US copyright for the name Chop With Chris.
Yay
Thanks!
Do you ever use any electrical tools or do you always do it with hand tools???
Either way your work is gorgeous
Thanks. I only use hand tools.
@@ChopWithChris And a few shop lights and cameras....
Great work. I've done some hewing but nothing that big yet.
🌲🦅🌲 thank you for sharing your videos today🌲🦨🌲🦌🌲
You are most welcome!
plenty of elbow grease in your projects! what makes you use hand tools only ? nice job
I just enjoy using my hands to create things. Its good for the mind, body, and soul,
If i don't have a big fancy saw could I use an old time chain saw?
Sure!
You really can't call this guy lazy
Thank you!
When do you acquire all your antique saw and tools ?
I go to flea markets on weekend to find a restore old tooks
You working so hard to make sure that you take cares yourself and your life, and families good men blessed in Jesus name amen
Thank you!!
The amount of elbow grease in the video is incomprehensible
No doubt!
Dr. Frankensteins brainchild. But beautiful in its own way.
Thanks!
Chris, where ya been? Miss seeing new videos. Hope all is well with you and your family.
All is well. Working on something special.
@@ChopWithChris awesome. Looking forward to it.
I'm still waiting for you Chris, when you start building a new Egyptian pyramid ... you already have all the primitive tools necessary for this at your fingertips!
Ha ha ha! No doubt!

Thats the joy of video editing!

Ha ha ha! Perfect!
I still think you need a hand plane or two. ;)
👍🏻
I know this was a couple years back... how many ticks did you and dog have after? That hewing axe looks a bit too heavy in the head- requires a lot more effort to lift, especially given how tired you probably were from the cutting and splitting.
It was the neighbors dog so I don't know. I had none. I've got a light broad axe now.
@@ChopWithChris I've got the gransfors bruks 1902 hewing axe and love it.
Wow! Nicely done!

Did you learned with Big Z?
No
I hope you're a pacifist, because if you're not, I can only think you could rip a man in half with that strength... Just kidding. Great work and great craftsmanship
