Street ball is the essence. Referees, coaches and drunk fans only slow the game down.
No hack a shack on the black top. Truly only playing for the love. The game at its purest.
Think back to those games you played as a kid, building lifelong friendships and staying out till dark not caring you gon' be in trouble with moms.
The world only thinks they know the greatest rapper of all time, the fastest running back ever, the best dunker who ever lived... For every kid who defys poverty to make it in the professional world, there's a hundred you never heard of. A thousand you'll never read about.
Just ask the players themselves. Every one got a story about the kid from their neighborhood who was 10 times better than they were but never made it.
That's why the inspiration was coming from and1. That's were the freedom and the creativity was. And the joy and the love. Just look what it did to that scrawny kid from outside of Portland. Turned him into the Professor

Most of these ballers competed in pro leagues before or after their And1 tenure.
Like The Professor said, they were talented players, but something was holding them back (work ethics, passion, injuries, etc.)
Lonnie Harrell played three solid years in the G-League (12.3 PPG), Aaron Owens (11.6 PPG), Rafer Alston hang with the men in the show... They could play.
But, to put things in perspective, Darius Johnson-Odom averaged 22.1 PPG in the G-League!
The Professor played in the CBA (4.5 PPG), Philip "Hot Sauce" Champion competed three years in the ABA.
    They could play!

Professor, I think you said it well... you guys proved that you could play against NBA players by actually doing so. I believe that Half Man's challenge wasn't responded to by NBA players because they were perhaps afraid... nothing to gain and everything to lose in regards to reputation. And Half Man also had a good point regarding IS, BD, and their injuries... awesome video.

The NBA had its own analysis of the competition. They didn't like seeing the soon-to-be loss of fans going to see A1. They knew the level of talent coming from A1 was too good they didn't want to lose props. They hired a few guys from A1 to play in the NBA. They saw the future close up by doing this so they devised a plan to break up A1.

They don't match NBA players. ALL OF THEM tried making it pro first before going the streetball rout as a back up. You do know most played pro or semi pro ball at some point right? Professor was the worst player on his community college team and the worst player o his CBA team. You act like they only ever played streetball. They are great players, but the NBA is a whole different level. If Professor could hardly hang on his division 3 basketabll team or his CBA team, what makes you think he could hang in the NBA? Have you not seen season 2 or AND1 when Skip came back and played against AND1 and completely wrecked the whole team?

i think that the and1 players have a very high level of skillz for sure, even if some of their moves are not "legal", what they are able to do on a basketball court is just insane !!!
Saying that they have no chance against NBA player is a non sense to me, maybe they don't have the same kind of training on a physical standpoint, but i am sure that they could handle it.
In the end, both of thoses players gave us a lot of good moments and it's still fun to watch them play, so let's share some love about the art of Basketball, no matter if it's streetball or "official" basketball game, let's enjoy the game and have some fun 🤗

I do not know basketball at all. However I played triple A ball as a catcher. Ended my career by getting my knee folded back and hip dislocated. Two years removed from that I was playing adult league baseball. There was a guy who never made it to college let alone the minors playing on a team against us. He knew I was a former minor leaguer and talked made trash about testing my arm. Now my knee and hip was never the same but my arm was still elite. I could still get a 1.81 throw down post injury so I wasn’t scared of all dude trying to steal on me. Well long story short he got walked and de la Cruz’d his ass all the way home stealing every bag along the way. Best damn athlete I ever played against and he never played one day of ball in college or the minors.
So I say all that to say these guys probably had the talent to play in the NBA at one time. They probably lacked the drive/work ethic more than the talent. So I’ve always thought the And 1 guys could hold a candle to the league guys but again not my sport I don’t know.

This is a tough conversation and things that it mainly depends on is the officiating and the rules which because the problem is Streetball has some illegal moves and some that are technicals and then we have the issue of flopping. If we put Streetballers against the entire NBA, all eras of it mixed together, NBA claps for sure, they teach Bill Russell modern defence. Oh lord, that’s going to hella hard to get pass. James Harden with his flopping. Steph with his shooting. Jokic, Jimmy Butler, Kobe, MJ, Larry, etc. And keep in mind, the refs are going to call in favour of the stars most of the time, which is going to make it extremely hard for Streetballers to win. However, if we split the NBA up, decades by decades, then Streetballers win, assuming we have a ref that isn’t biased to the stars during the game. Another thing you have to consider is that NBA players have Olympic level experience, which is going to be hard for Streetballers to get passed. A thing I see people mentioning is that the NBA started with Streetball, completely irrelevant. We’re talking in a terms of a basketball match, not in terms of who’s the most iconic or who’s the favourite. It depends on a lot of factors and there’s isn’t any true winner of this without those conditions and factors of a perfect ref, all of the guys having good days, none of them sick or dead or tired, all of them at their absolute best in their prime, their coaches being at their best. Both organizations and everyone at their best, this, that, etc.

This is delusional. Skip made the NBA, but we saw how much better he was than the rest of AND1 when he came back and played them and destroyed the whole AND1 team. Professor played organized ball several times and he was never good at a semi high level (or even highschool)

I think it just depends on the player Also every player has talents on what they are good at yk. I also feel like NBA players and street ballers should respect each other's game yk. Like ya'll both play the sport and if a NBA player loses or a street baller loses it is like okay respect for the other player for winning, Yk what I saying. I truly believe the NBA should give street ballers a chance not only to get into the NBA but, to prove themselves. That is my opinion . ... U the man Professor live 🤘🏼🔥. Shout-out to NBA players and street ballers yall do u .

Bruh, I played at my gym a few weeks ago and I had a random dude on my team about the professors height drain about 30 three points shots missing maybe one. I watch the best shooter I’ve ever witnessed and played on his team. Needless to say I watched the best 3 point shooter I’ve ever witnessed on or off tv and he’ll never get a shot bc he’s not nba material. He looked like a short white middle aged dad.

I don’t think there’s any question offensively and1 can score against NBA players. My concern for And1 is could they really play enough defense to keep NBA players from scoring ant will and could they be consistent enough at the mid range shot? Lastly would the conditioning be good enough against NBA players who do high levels of conditioning? Would have loved to seen it!

AND1 kinda got exposed when they moved indoors and started playing better teams. They got smoked actually. Most of the AND1 players grew up trying to make the NBA. Most have played in pro or semi pro leagues. Their offense and defense is WAY behind what is needed. A good example is Skip. He played in the NBA to some level of success. He came back and played against AND1 in season 3 and completely destroyed the whole team

Look it comes down to discipline and consistency. Doing the same thing at a high level its has very little to do with talent or skill. Timing and a bit of providence is also what separates the 2.

It's such a shame that AND1 and streetball in general are so often insulted by NBA fanatics.
I think people have a hard time taking streetballers seriously because of the moves or sometimes the broken rules for the show.
They mistakenly think that streetballers just have fun and don't care about the game, don't train often and never lift weights (even though Wemby from my country proves that being bulk isn't everything).
AND1 players had REAL skills as basketball players, that's a fact. And they were certainly strong enough to make it in the league even if it would kill people to recognize it. I also think that there is the "official" side which will give NBA players the legitimacy to play high-level basketball, while on the other hand, (AND1 and street players of nowadays like in Ballislife etc…) would automatically have no right to even show their skills on a mixtape without someone on the internet to tell them that they sucks and that an NBA player would cook their ass etc…
And we must not forget that the NBA would not be what it is today without the influence of streetball. The playgrounds also saw the birth of some of those who later walked the NBA floors. Even some moves that the old uncles call: the "fundamentals", come from the street. The league necessarily misses out on many talents. Not all players are lucky enough to be seen by a scout who was hungry and went to get a sandwich (hi Ja Morant).
Streetball will never die, And1 forever
