Holy cow, I didn’t even know these could be replaced. The rubber grip is the only part about the blocks that I really don’t like. I will definitely be doing this, thanks for showing us how.
If if still had powerblocks instead of fixed dumbbells, or if was limited on space I would definitely recommend these replacement handles. Their knurling is some of the best around!
@@TheCarterHomeGym yes sir I have had it for a over a year. Still rocking like day 1. If you get one get cerakote the knurling is the best of the 3 on the cerakote on. I reviewed the other two but never did the cerakote one
Thanks Brian! Bare Steel makes some very nice equipment. I agree that they have way more competition now. PB is still one of the better options out there but they need better advertising and maybe a refresh, collab, or new model release.
Thanks man! Yeah, good luck using straps with PowerBlocks. It's a pain in the ass 😂 I know some people don't care for the PB's design, but they're well built and have been the go-to for fast adjusting adjustable dumbbells.
@@TheCarterHomeGym the only thing I didn’t like about Pepin HDs besides the price was all those round plates I’d have to store when not in use. I would have liked to try them out and compare, but I’m happy w the IMs.
I thought about that too. After watching HGHR's video on the trulaps yesterday, I realized how compact the IMs really are with the heavy handle. I'd like to see a side-by-side comparison of the two.
I got a pair of their magnetic power pins and was impressed by the quality and robustness. Once I bought the ModBar and realized how awesome the knurling was, I knew I had to get the PB handles.
Thanks for the vid. But I don’t see why people dislike the stock handle so much. Granted the after-market steel handles are a nice option. Powerblock now sells a model or two with the option of rubber or steel handle.
@@TheCarterHomeGym Some of my kitchen appliances have a more aggressive knurl than the PowerBlock handles. It doesn't even come close to Reps hex straight dumbbells handles, and those aren't particularly aggressive. Powerblock also uses some Nickel material which never seems to get cold, making their metal handles almost feel like plastic. Granted, that might be a good thing if you live in a cooler environment. Also of note, the PowerBlock Barbell has a more aggressive than the ones they offer for their dumbbells. It still falling short of Rep hex but by far less of a margin.
Why do the New Handles need a washer but the original rubber handles don't have one? Also, if you use the washer on the new handles, then there will be less metal octagon material inside the black plastic of the powerblock.
I feel like these would be a must. Those rubber handles are terrible, and I am surprised powerblock hasn’t come up with other options for those that want something with some bite. Great video bro.
Like I said, I wish I'd done it sooner. I held off because my wife uses them and doesn't like knurling, but she gave me permission to do the upgrade lol. She'll probably wear gloves now 😂😂😂 Thanks bro!
On the website in some of the reviews it shows the elite series as a fit. baresteelequipment.com/products/powerblock%C2%AE-knurled-handles If you're still unsure I suggest you email Baresteel Equipment for confirmation.
@@TheCarterHomeGymif brother I have no time throughout my day. Work, online coaching and writing programs, working on a second book, articles are a little behind. Currently reading stuff by Brad Schoenfeld. And of course my own training. Literally no free time. Love it though. And thank you. You're still kicking my ass regarding the editing quality though lol
Yeah, the price has always been insane on these being a specialty offering, but thankfully no more. Powerblock sells knurled handles directly for $99 a pair, or you can get them pre-installed with two new handles and four added weights for just $159.
@@DampRaccoon It's about time PowerBlock wised up. The rubber handles have been an issue for people for YEARS. It's good to hear they finally offer them as an option now.
Can't believe bare steel is trying to sell their Powerblock handles for twice as much as the ones Powerblocks themselves. I know people say the ones from Powerblocks are a bit less aggressive, but still... $200 a pair seems a tad much.
Bare Steel Equipment is a small business (1) and their products are made in USA (2). Powerblock's are likely imported. Bare Steel's are also stainless steel now (3) and PB's are chrome plated steel. These are the big differences when it comes to cost. If you are military or a first responder you can get a discount through GovX or you can get $10 off by using my code "CARTER".
@@TheCarterHomeGym I suppose that's somewhat fair. You appear to be using Powerblock Exp rather than Powerblock Elite USA, making your point about wanting to buy USA made products feel a bit muted. With that said, you're probably right that their knurled handles are probably not made in the US. As for the material, the Powerblock barbells appear to be chrome plated steel, but the one's from their dumbbells are pretty clearly not. My guess would be electroless nickel plated steel.
The PB website says the handles are chrome plated steel, that's where I got that from. And I wasn't saying people should buy these just because they're made in the US, I was just making a point about manufacturing costs. I think people should buy whatever they want, within their budget. At the time I made this video, PB wasn't offering knurled handles yet. It was just a few small companies offering a solution to an issue PB seemed to be ignoring. I'm glad PB finally came around. $99 is very reasonable for a knurled handle upgrade, and it's gotta be better than the rubber handles. Bare Steel is just one option that has vastly improved my experience using my Powerblocks.

Never thought dumbbells would have rubber handles to begin with, but in a world of pineapple on pizza I guess there should be no surprise 😂
Rubber dumbbell handles are the equivalent of pineapple on pizza! Only people who don't know better like it. You nailed it!

Nope!
