  • Today we are replacing the PCV Valve in a 2006 Nissan Frontier. I am by no means a mechanic, however I am a guy who likes to do my own work. This valve became "stuck" in either the open or the closed position (not sure which) and probably could have been cleaned and re-installed. However for $13 it was worth it to me to go ahead and change it out.

      You’ve got to be joking right? He says the truck has 228,000 miles on it and it’s the original PCV valve, And only now he feels it’s time for it to be replaced! That would be quite the opposite of a wealth of knowledge! If he had any clue on how a modern internal combustion engine works he would not have let that valve go for that long! My advice stop searching UA-cam in hopes to learn any good information about automotive repair unless it is a real certified mechanic! Don’t believe me just Google what happens to an engine when a PCV valve is not replaced regularly! Anybody can sound smart when you’re only hearing one side! And if you were trying to save money do not let your PCV valve go for 220,000 miles! Open the owners manual in there it’ll tell you the service intervals for most items on your vehicle! The information is not there for the dealer to make money it is there to help you maintain your vehicle! If you want to know everything you need to know about your vehicle get a subscription to www.alldatadiy.com/?affiliate_id=93770&click_id=3312654394&clickId=3312654394 it will tell you every little thing you need to know about your vehicle! Recalls, TSB’s, part numbers, where are the parts are located, Torque specifications, how to replace every single item on your vehicle and how long it should take to replace an item! It even has diagrams installation procedures and more! And no I have no association with them whatsoever other than Personal use in my shop! Good luck!

      Thanks for watching! I totally agree with keeping up on maintenence and replacing parts as needed. Appreciate your thoughts. Keep in mind I AM NOT A MECHANIC, never claimed to be. The purpose of this video is more to show people a way to replace the valve themselves. Not all of us can afford to pay a professional lol.

    If you do this yourself you're saving close to $500. That's what my local shop told it'd cost because they said the intake has to come off first. Even then when I did my spark plugs I don't recall it being that bad to charge someone $500 for..... Good camera angle, thank you. My attempt #2 at this coming soon.

    hi thanks for the video. What symptoms led you to replace the PCV?

    • @AGuyandHisProjects
      @AGuyandHisProjects  3 роки тому

      For me it was leaking oil at the o ring. As cheap as they are I figured I might as well replace the whole unit rather than just the o ring. After taking this video i also replaced the entire hose as it broke on me during the replacement

    just did mine on my Xterra. I could not get back there with the tools available to me so ended up cutting the hose close to the PCV valve and put a socket over top to get the valve out. call me crazy but i think the stock PCV was 23mm and the replacement was 24mm???? With $5 bucks worth of new hose and a screw type hose clamp, next change wont be difficult to get the hose off the valve. thanks for the video!

      The old valve on my 2007 seemed larger than 23 but very loose on the 24mm socket and I had difficulty turning it. I used a 15/16" to remove it. The replacement was clearly a standard 24mm.

    If you take a pair of pliers after you get the clamp out of the way amd you GENTLY grab the hose and twist it ever so slightly and it should come right off after that!!!

      Gloves to protect the back of the hand are key to doing this job. When broke/cheap or working through a beat up truck a dap of RTV sealant and a wrap of tape will work for for the split hose ends.
