      I actually recommend telling them to create the embouchure and blow, it shouldn’t buzz, but when you bring the mouthpiece to your lips, it will create the buzz sound, the buzz sound is not the first step. It is the conclusion of all the other steps

    How long do you get to be proficient at playing the trumpet?

    • @MSGrantMusic
      @MSGrantMusic  Рік тому

      Depends on many factors - including your definition of "proficient" - but with the right equipment and teacher(s) in an environment conducive to growth, it can happen pretty quickly!
      A college student, for example, taking lessons and learning it to fill a spot in their university band could potentially get there in less than 2 years. Usually if you're starting from a middle school beginning band setting without lessons, though, it will take at least 6 years, often more.
      Hope it helps!

    • @MSGrantMusic
      @MSGrantMusic  Рік тому

      Your teacher probably told you that because it can cause tension in the hand and on the embouchure, which makes it harder to produce a good sound. The more you focus on developing the sound itself (and the more overall experience you get as a trumpet player), the less your pinky is a factor.
