Thank you very much. I just bought my 3000 today refurbished and i thought i got a crappy device and was disappointed. But your fix worked for me and i am golden. Thanks
Can't believe something so simple fixed my psp. I was about to smash the damn thing to vent my frustration. "YES I WANT TO QUIT FOREVER!!" Haha, thanks for the video, still helping 7 years later!
Dude you are an angel!!! I found my psp and decided to buy a game for it but it kept giving me that annoying pop up!! It’s fixed now and I’m so happy!! Thanks again 🤧
It works !! Thanks friend !! THANKS !! I am playing a PSP 2001. It happend when I reinstall the convert (to crack it) :) Now it's fixed. Thanks !! Keep up the good work!
You’re a hero, I’ve had my PSP since 2008 (I was 6 when I got it and loved it), 4 years ago I got it back out and this kept happening so I gave up. Now you’ve helped me solve it so thank you.
Just pulled my PSP 3000 out today to play some GTA Chinatown Wars and that pop up kept appearing constantly. This tutorial works a treat. Now im happily off to deal drugs and create mayhem around town!. Thank you so much!
Such a simple fix for a frustrating problem! My PSP was having trouble reading UMDs and this screen would pop up every so often. Thank you so much for this solution!
I got myself a purple psp 300 a little while ago, I have been getting this every time I play any of my umd games, one vid I saw said to lightly bent the top springs in the back cover but that didn't work, you showing to bend the ones on the bottom as well fixed the issue for me, many thanks
Ive been having the same problem with my PSP 3000. I looked inside and noticed that there is a small lever that is pressed in when there is a disc present in the tray. I put a little bit of tape on the lever to hold it down and I didn't get the "quit game" screen at random times anymore. Try this as well as you will not modify any hardware, and it is easy to romove
You rock, man. I've got a PSP-3001 (standalone) and have been getting this on various games (Crisis Core and now Birth by Sleep). Mine were pretty much straight, so bumping these out seems to have resolved the issues. We'll see ... Part of the problem may be that I seem to press against the UMD cover with my fingers while playing ...
Thanks bro my psp was not working properly from since 2013 and now I have watched your video and I tried it' worked thank you very very much there is no word to tell you a presious thanks to you bro
Unfortunately didn’t work for me… at first I thought it was the home button. Replaced the ribbon cable and it still did it.. tried this method and still.. any other methods I should try?
Ahah I wasn't even playing UMD games but I forgot I had a UMD in the tray and the 4 prongs were completely flat. I bent them a little and removed the UMD and now the Home it doesn't pop out. Thank you very much.
I have the same PSP as you and it started with this problem just within the last month or so. That damn message was popping up literally every 10 seconds and made every game unplayable. After trying your solution it has been working flawlessly, hopefully it continues to do so. Thanks a ton man!
I might have a problem playing games like SF Alpha Zero, smashing the dpad or stick might take me to the Grey window, if it's not the metal plugs, what else can cause the problem?
I Just started up my psp after 2012, and odered a new battery as the last one swelled up. It is working fine, but I'm having a very similar issue to Yours. Everytime I insert the UMD disk in, it doesn't read it unless I press on the disk case and it starts loading and it works fine as long as I keep pressing the back case tightly and shows the 'Do You want to quit the game ?' screen when I let go of it in mid game or stops reading the disk at all at the home screen. I tried lifting the prongs, but didn't help at all. The disk reader is right next to the center where it's supposed to be and Everything seems to be fine. Hope this can be resolved.
i have a question...how about if you want to exit the game but HOME BUTTON is not responsive then some say the alternate solution for that is to open the umd door while the power is on. is it possible that it could corrupt file/game(s) when doing frequently? i really need your advices for my PSP3000. thank you in advance! 🙇
@ConsumerFanatics FYI, without putting anything between and prongs I kept getting this error popping up. It got so bad today that I did some research on whether it was Birth by Sleep that was doing it, when I saw something about taping down the little 'switch.' I ended up doing that today, as well as pulling the prongs out further, and I've had no issues since. Odd odd odd.
the little black pin at the top left corner of the UMD drive u have to put something on top of it. that pin tells the psp if is close or not. i hope this helps.
I play the same thing i play god of war ghost of spartan then when my game was lag i try to quit then when i try to click the left button it doesnt work
THIS WORKS. i have a 2001 psp (vader). I starting playing UMDs after a long pause and suddenly the home button message started coming on all the time. I went to some trouble to replace the button strip and still the error message came up. Then i noticed the drive would stop when i got the message so i bent the prongs like in the video and FIXED! I should have tried this first.
Does not work. I have not only pried the 4 metal prongs up, but I have also taped down the UMD Drive Door thing and the UMD Switch that tells the PSP that there is a UMD in the drive when closed. Still get this annoying little message while playing Kingdom Hearts: Birth By Sleep (which like God of War, if you get this message in the middle of a battle it could mean death very quickly)
@ConsumerFanatics how much would you say you bend them? I just barely tapped them with the back end of an art razor (best long thin tool i had on hand) and it seems like it still does it, though not as much. Should i do it a bit more? You mention to do it lightly so i did it very slightly the first time
I did that but it still keeps happening... When i open the psp where the disk go in and the "Do you like to quit the game?" stops appearing pls help...
mines do the same, I have the green mgs one, while playing, pressing the dpad area or the stick I get the Grey home thing, I just did this, let's see how it goes, I'll be back
I also ran into this issue with my PSP (its the FF7 Crisis Core version so I can't get any warranty done on it in Canada). Afaik those metal prongs shouldn't be bent over 30 degrees as it might wear out the metal faster. There is also a black cushion near the top left corner of the UMD Door (it will be on your right depending on how you hold the PSP. But on another video here I read that you can either remove the cushion out or move it up/down as that cushion is part of the "Door Lock" thing.
I just bough a psp and it had this problem. To start with I would put the game in and it wouldn't even read it. I adjusted the prongs really far forward and it read the game and I was able to play for a bit but then it started doing it again. I downloaded a demo and it did not do that at all. I'm guessing it's not a sticky key but the UMD Port itself. Do you have any advice?
did what you said and it worked, now if I press really hard in the dpad area it will take me to the Grey screen, any help on that? maybe the casing is loose?
+ConsumerFanatics at times it doesn't do it but playing fighting games it does do it, I'm guessing if it's the area where dpad is, maybe the casing is loose, home button is not stuck
Seems to have worked on my PSP. Had to fold the springs up fairly far, but it will hopefully work. I also recommend, if you can, leaving a resting PSP upside down if it has a UMD in it, to keep it from flattening the springs again.
@ConsumerFanatics same thing happened to me, i was playing street fighter and every second i played it the "do you want to quit game" kept showing up, at first i thought it was the umd but then i realized that my psp door is a little loose and doesn't close properly.
I have the same model as you. I never used it much, but now am starting to actually play it and am getting this problem Its pissing me off a lot. Im thinking of trying this out, but am a bit worried. This shouldn't damage it should it? I also hear something about messing with some kinda white tab thats the door sensor switch but i cant find a good video on that. Would you sugest trying something with the tab or just giving this a shot? I just dont wanna damage my system since its basicly new
WOW ! Thanks a'lot man! I have a PSP 2004 and got this problem ( i have my consolve over 3 years by now) and was driving me mad. Greatings form Portugal, keep it up!
Hey! If this doesn't work, try to make the backdoor as tight as possible by taping it to the top of the PSP with tension. I had the same problem with a brand new PSP from the store. I tried this and it helped for a while but then the stupid screen kept popping up again! Then I tried taping the door shut tight and its been hours without the problem!
Thank you sooo much! This problem kept getting worse and worse for me until games that required any intense button pushing were unplayable. Now all is fixed! Thanks again for making my life easier :Db
Can someone help me? I play a psp game and I start to get bored so when I press the home button, it wont let me move or when I play a PSone game I can't edit the settings, all I can do is move up and down. Please help me......
I do have the same problem and it is very annoying... but the problem is, Im not using UMD a downloadable games so what am I suppose to do with it? heheh
@ConsumerFanatics Happy to report that after my last 'tweaks' of taping that 'switch' down and pulling out the prongs a bit more I had no further issues. Thanks again for posting this video!
This actually worked but it was only temporary. I'm going to have to exchange mine because it keeps doing it. But thanks so much for putting this up :D
@strivinglife You could try placing something between the tray and the prongs. Maybe piece of double sided tape and small sliver of a sponge or something that has elasticity in it. Just enough to give the prongs some absorption. If Sony was smart, they will upgrade those prongs with a spring mechanism.
@ConsumerFanatics Damn. Happened again this morning while I tried to sneak some time in before work. However, I'm pretty sure my middle finger was pressing against the back of the PSP. It appears that the metal is still bent out, and since it only happened the once in about an hour of play ...
My most recent spur of rage at repeated(5 times in a single minute) turned my resort to smacking the psp. I didn't hit it very hard, more like a hard pat, but it seemed to "fix" things for about an hour.. still not pleased to encounter the situations. I may as well have picked up a pspgo since theres no trouble w/ dl games. -.-
@ConsumerFanatics It was pretty funny, actually. I set the PSP down on the edge of my couch and watched the message popup again and again. This was after I had tried to replicate the issue by playing with my power cord and the front panel, and after I watched this video. Really should have recorded it flipping out ... :D Since I have a couple more UMD games in queue, I'll definitely let you know what it does long-term. Thanks again!
Thanks for watching and commenting.

Worked for me! Mine weren't completely flat, but I bent them up a bit and now the disc doesn't move inside. Thanks man.

It works!!! It's 2024 man, can't believe it. Thanks a lot!!
I just bought an used one to replace my stolen PSP and found this issue, but it seems that your solution worked. Thanks a lot!
It worked perfect for me. I just bought it at a garage sale for $20. So happy it was that easy. Thank you.
+David D Thanks for watching, glad it helped!

Oh my gosh... Oh man.... My psp is fixed. It works! Thank you. I upset bcs the problem is so easily solved. Thank you again.
Thanks for the video. I was about ready to throw out my PSP!
Unfortunately didn’t work for me… at first I thought it was the home button. Replaced the ribbon cable and it still did it.. tried this method and still.. any other methods I should try?
omfg, I tried everyhing from opening the psp itself to mashing the home button out of frustration. thank you for this

the little black pin at the top left corner of the UMD drive u have to put something on top of it. that pin tells the psp if is close or not. i hope this helps.
can u tell me what version of fireware u have? i have problem when i use boton home... i cant select option of YES...

@Foxkoun you mean in MGS: Peace Walker, right? how do you get the missions anyway?
I just bough a psp and it had this problem. To start with I would put the game in and it wouldn't even read it. I've done the prong method, I still get home-missiled during umd play though :/
SAME HERE! I’ve been trying to figure this out. It’s really annoying me at this point
Sorry, I don't know English well. Can you explain what needs to be done under my comments pliz
How much must I bend this metal prongs?
I actually thought of this, and it does not work for me. works for a short time, then i start getting the message every few seconds again >.
Thats is my problem in my psp 3000..but I use memory stick not a umd sir.. How can I fix that sir. Pls help me...
Same problem rn I guess we need to open the device and clean it or sth
If I pull the power down to hold than it doesnt appear so it must have sth to do with the buttons below
I have the same model as you. I never used it much, but now am starting to actually play it and am getting this problem Its pissing me off a lot. Im thinking of trying this out, but am a bit worried. It worked! I was afraid the dear PSP that kept me company through college was done for, but it lives on yet!
thank you! Bought a new PSP and thought I'd have to return it within half an hour of playing... this helped greatly. thank you!
WOW !
Thanks a'lot man! I have a PSP 2004 and got this problem ( i have my consolve over 3 years by now) and was driving me mad.
Greatings form Portugal, keep it up!
Great to hear. As long as you're able to play even a little, I think it's a win.
What about on ISO?
most likely your home button is messed up if its happening with isos
Hey! If this doesn't work, try to make the backdoor as tight as possible by taping it to the top of the PSP with tension. I had the same problem with a brand new PSP from the store. Thanks, man. You really helped me a lot! Subscribed and liked!
+aXe dr4k3L Thank you. I don't produce many videos, but I will try to put out helpful / interesting stuff once in a while.
I do have the same problem and it is very annoying... but the problem is, Im not using UMD a downloadable games so what am I suppose to do with it? heheh
did you fix it?
how about if i am not using UMD games :D ?? .. Could this work ?
Even I bent it gently, it doesn't look the same as the older look, and most of my umd can't start the game even though the hing is fix
how about if i dont have umd disc?
@SeraphTheTroll Thanks for watching and I'm glad it worked for you!
thank you alot my psp is now working again 😃 i can continue playing dirt 2 😃😃😃😃😄😄😄😄😄
Got a brand new one having this issue and i rage every time it pops up on street fighter. Thanks for the video, ill try it.
my psp 2001 was doing this all the time and now it not thanks to you , Thank you for video.
thebighat99 so glad it helped!
@ConsumerFanatics Happy to report that after my last 'tweaks' of taping that 'switch' down and pulling out the prongs a bit more I had no further issues. Thanks again for posting this video!
Where we need to tape?
Thanks for your comment. This definitely isn't a guaranteed fix for everyone
Awesome, thanks for the fix. Just got a PSP 2003 and this was happening to it.
Can someone tell me how to do it i have the same proble in my psp 1000 please need your help
one question, will this violate warranty?
thank you mate. basically you just helped me repairing mine, which i got for 20€ with 8 games. haha. thank you alot!
+zanyyyproduction Great, thanks for watching!
Thanks for watching, glad it helped.
WORKED! Fixed 2 of my PSPs! Thanks!
This has pissed me off so much. Thanks for the fix
I just did this and until now I didn't get the problem again, thank you very much man!!
Daymn. Thanks man, appeared to have worked perfectly!
Thanks man I just bought a refurbished psp 3000 from gamespot and same thing happened to me . I bent the x prongs a bit and works great
Awesome stuff, I was getting annoyed by that situation. Fighting a tigrex and getting spammed by the exit grey screen is hairy stuff.
I hope it works, though I don't even use UMDs to play :/ (I used them a lot before but not now, don't know if that counts)
How about with psp go?
@ConsumerFanatics It was pretty funny, actually. I set the PSP down on the edge of my couch and watched the message popup again and again. This was after I had tried to replicate the issue by playing with my power cord and the front panel, and after I watched this video. Really should have recorded it flipping out ... :D Since I have a couple more UMD games in queue, I'll definitely let you know what it does long-term. Thanks again!
