I have been using thisas a handy reference book ua-cam.com/users/postUgkxGQVgV21bQ7B9b9duQ1ByImyT9xHbjOKq . I read through the book and enjoyed the little glimpses of examples. I love that this author believes in rescue dogs. The tips and training has been invaluable and gave me moments of.... "how simple why didn't i think of it" so it's been a great tool. Thank you!
I am a retired Military Working dog handler ( 12 years with dogs).....I went through the evolution of the training spectrum. I like where your going and what your doing.
@@unleashedpotentialK9 We live in York, Pa and my wonderful 19 year old daughter purchased and brought home a 9 week old puppy (I thought the daughter was moving out lol) but to my surprise, there is a new puppy in my home. My question to you sir is: do you know anyone in my area to help with training this little guy? Thank you for your time, B
Got my pup this morning, 8 weeks old yesterday and she already sits on command 7 times out of 10 and knows her crate means bed time! Shes my first gs and im just amazed at how brilliant and loyal they are even at such a young age!
It must be in the blood lines, because my German Shepherd would always look to me for commands, and that was at day one. I would walk him, and he'd always be looking up at me for instructions. What a good boy he was, he was so easy to train! I took him to dog school with other dogs, and he was not distracted at all. He knew all the words, sit, stay, heal, shake, down, and it was so natural for him.
I watched this video years ago when it first came out and thought "Wow! I could never do that!" Years later and I'm training dogs - pups and adults - how to engage with me with great success. Awesome video!
My German Shepherd was so easy to train, he almost self trained himself. Its uncanny how they zero in on your body language. He was the best dog I've ever had and I had lots! I sure miss Ol' Max!
They are super smart , I have had my boy for almost a year now and I taught him how to play dead with fingers and a verbal bang in ONE DAY... he is the best
I couldn’t imagine not training a dog until 6 months. By six months my dogs are pretty much completely obedience trained. They still have room to grow , but, I mean, they have a solid foundation by then.
Training my first dog from a pup and he's now 15 weeks and I'm amazed how much he's learnt in these first few weeks. Wasn't planning on cosleeping but he did for the first month or so and is now totally house trained and sleeps all night happily in his crate.
I'm a GSD owner that has had my dog through all of the AKC certifications. I love that dog more than you could imagine. She is a model of discipline, but she's still a dog. The GSD dogs are incredibly intelligent. I have to watch my habits around the house so that she doesn't catch on to my meals, etc. My girl can predict my behavior. It is stunning what she catches on to. She stands between anything she perceives as a threat (e.g. neighbors walking) and covers my shins between me and her perceived thread, walking sideways.
This guy is bad ass… Great job brother. I have a GSD Thad was abused and unsocilalised Im trying to get her used to people and pups. Have a good one brother.
They're brilliant dogs, smart as border collies, but they're not for the faint of heart or owners that aren't fully committed. They take a lot of work, but if you're dedicated, and learn about the breed, they're the best dog to have around you. I've had 4 of them in my lifetime and through experience can tell you that they're so clever, and if trained well they don't even need a leash. Plus, they'll never let an uninvited stranger into your house.
I know this comment is old but would German shepherds do well with guests that are invited? Like if you introduce them to people? Because I’m looking into getting one. And do they do well with other animals?
I have a German Shepard when I'm having company over I introduce them at the door..one time she went crazy barking at one Of my friend...couple of weeks later that particular friend was arrested for burglary and had an extensive wrap sheet. I pay attention of how she acts now
@@sarebearxo Yes. Some Cech/Dutch working line German Shepherd Dogs would not be a good starter shepherd. Their lines are bred hard for work (police, security, PP, military). But other than that, being a strong, confident and loving presence is all a GSD needs....well training, consistency (everyone in the family on board), and socializing them early and often is needed too.
Brandon mcmillan is the most gentle, thorough and effective dog i've ever encountered. My friend and i love the dog show and never miss it. So many times we've shed a tear of happiness just seeing a dog's life changed forever when proper training is applied and they go on to live their lives the way they should. I have brandon's book ua-cam.com/users/postUgkxK8-VQWpYThx4IC6MiIvb6VS1ebTzzdxq in two formats. Not only the paperback version but also the kindle version to refer to when i don't have the paperback along with me. I have used his methods with my cavalier kc spaniel and turned a non-disciplined furbaby into a companion who has traveled thousands of miles with us across the country. He is a near perfect dog thanks to brandon's methods. I don't get one cent of kickback for recommending brandon but i do it because i love dogs. They deserve to be given a chance. Brandon's mission in life - to rescue dogs and place them in a forever, happy home - is very dear to my heart. I recommend his methods to anyone who has a dog - young or old. I've seen him take even old dogs and teach them. Brandon was an animal trainer before his current mission. His parents were animal trainers. His methods are the best i've ever found. Your furbaby will thank you for spending the money on this book. Don't hesitate - it is worth every cent.
You did a excellent job with him I've been trying to train my 8 week old gs I've tried the food method but he's not interested in it but I'm gonna stay at it and hopefully it pays off
"If you can get your dog to pay attention wherever you go, no matter where you are there's really no behavioural problems" - I have always said this and you have proven me right to those who have disagreed with me. My kinda trainer!
German Shepherds are so smart... it takes less than a week if you teach them early! That's what I found with my pup anyway. Takes more time if they are older. Love how attentive you got Diesel to be! My GSD Ina still runs off every now and then when she sees something interesting, haha (she does come back immediately when called, at least).
i was so tired of our lilly biting us all the time and then i used a few tips i learned from the tinyurl.com/yaq8h47b -- videos. it was like night and day; worked so well
I got my first gsd(diesel) @6.5weeks (I know now it was to early 10 years ago) by 8 weeks he was 100% house trained sit, lay, sit cute all by 8 weeks gsd are so smart if you pick the right ones!
I just adopted a 1 year old German Shepherd husky mix today and so far he is VERY smart and listens well, he just has so much energy when it's time for bed, I assume he needs more exercise and play time. He'll wanna play at 2am lol I thought about taking him for walks around the park, he's not friendly with other dogs and that's what I get worried about but in my experience with dogs it's all about the energy you as a human put out. I'm used to pit bulls so having a German Shepherd is new to me
My parents raised, trained and would show German Shepherds but I started raising, breeding, training Rottweilers just out of School. Here I am almost 74 yrs. old with MS, COPD w/Emphysema and I now have a 5 month old German Shepherd X Border Collie that I'm in the process of training to help me with balance, stairs, etc. He was a SNAP to Obedience train and boy does he have a nose on him😂. I adore him💞🐾🐾 , his intelligence is mind-blowing, so eager to work and learn. I play hide and seek games with him (hiding certain toys plus treats and then ask him to "seek") and he has, so far, found everything. We start this outside next week, we'll see how he does, alot of rabbits, squirels, birds, etc. for distractions, but I have all the faith in his abilities.
I am now on my 3rd GSD, LOVE the breed. I adopted what I thought was a black GSD only to be surprised she is/was a Belgian Malinois!! My 2 Girls were a team. My beloved Mal died last month from aspiration pneumonia. She was born with Megaesphagus & we fought it for 10+yrs. Thora was in my arms when she passed, I haven't stopped crying. God I miss her! But my GSD, Freyja is still here & will be 13yrs next month. THE BEST 2 BREEDS OF DOGS, EVER!!
My dog was a gift from my boyfriend. He potty trained himself learned commands in less than two days!! He’s so smart I can’t believe how lucky I’ve gotten. Best dogs in the world.
Hi Duke, it's so great to see the amazing work you are doing with Diesel and we were so EXCITED to see this video!! While we miss our Diesel so much, we are so happy we made the decision to bring him to YOU!!! It's unreal the progress he has made with you in this short time. We cannot wait to see what you teach him next and to see his progress in your next video. Thank you sooo much and keep up the excellent work!! THANK YOU!!!
Thank you. My mom saved a German Shepard puppy when he had Parvo. She worked very hard to keep him alive and I'm happy to say that he is a lot to this day. Though now that he is much much bigger he needs more training that my mother was expecting. So I'm trying to come in and be the person who trained him while he is just over a year old. It's hard because he has so much energy and I try my best to give him as much attention and stimulation as I can but so very hard without neutering him.
GSD is the best dog hands down....for the correct owner ofcourse. The bond with a GSD is unlike anything. I live all dogs but cant explain how we are. He knows...
I've had my puppy 4 days now, he's almost 11 weeks old. I've already got him to sit on command it can mostly be down to the dog themselves being smart enough I think
What's matters the most is socializing the young dog to anything and everything. We start at 10 weeks, take the dog everywhere. We will take the pups and set by the interstate, go in stores, give baths, clean ears, brush teeth, cut nails, loud noises, conveyor-belts, slick floors, being lifted, boxes, stairs, people, other dogs, anything and everything. If you have a dog that is NOT well socialized, you will never reach the full potential of the dog. Then we start training at 12 weeks. Starting training early you must have a "clear-headed, sound dog" to start with. You also must not pressure the young dog too much, there's a fine line. If you cross the line your dog will have issues, and most dogs don't recover 100%! I see a lot of people who train with food. Using food is a fast way to train and works. We found praising the dog when he does right, works better than food. Dogs want to please their handler more than anything in the world! When they do an action you want them to do, "Praise them, pet them act like a fool, get loud and praise them!" As a police handler, we can't use food at all, because in court the defense will say the dog alerted to food instead of the drugs! That's 110% not true, we don't use food in training so it's an issue we don't have to deal with! Great video, and a beautiful dog! If you want a good dog, you must socialize them, and start training early like in this video! You will love your dog even more if he/she is trained, and the dog loves it!
I have 4 puppies that are almost three months old. I want to find two of them good homes but where I live I dont trust anyone and I wont put them in a shelter, these puppies are spoiled rotten. Do you possibly know of people looking to adopt puppies? I live in arizona.

Do you have any advise for teaching a four month old pup not to chase chickens? she is usually pretty good about ignoring the ducks and turkeys but seems to be too interested in the chickens. I will leash her up near the birds every day to try to get her used to them, and them her.
Adrian Balvanera 😊😊😊😊 Comforts me to know I'm not the only freak. My life is just animals... Have to make so much effort to even look up n talk to hooomans😂
I know this was posted 10 years ago 🥹 but Diesel being shown just a week later after some work, gave me butterflies. Nothing better than an unengaged dog doing a 180° turn in just a week. They want to please us but we must relay what we need 🦋🐾🦋
My obedience class teacher had a beautiful German shepherd and it was perfectly trained, named Stepper. Fell in love with him, fifty years ago, and he still lives on in my memories. Wonderful breed, and very intelligent. ❤️
I'm PUMPED !!! I get my GS puppy in 2 weeks!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Getting the house in order and learning everything I can to train this dog right around me and my 4 year old son. So excited to have another kid in my life haha!
That is awesome! Be sure to check out our Free Dog Training Series on www.dukeferguson.com Lots of German Shepherds shown throughout and great training tips!
Aloha! Personally I think the trainer delivered... he said he'd show you the difference of his attention when he 1st arrives and you get to see 1 week after. I am impressed... I trained horsed for 30 years... it would take days to teach someone to read the dogs body language, having dog "Hook On", etc... And I liked the Bag pipes. Lighten up fokes. Lol! :0)
I'm on to my second GSD the last one past away 9 months ago at 9 years old of cancer. Max, the 10 week old "male" pup is a lot more demanding and diffidently head strong but he has now learnt to sit, stay, down, come etc. The potty at night around 3 am can be a bit of a bummer but that's all expected. Looking forward to when I can take him out after his second lot of vaccinations.
I've never heard of the 6 month "rule". That's crazy. We're planning to get a German Shepherd in a few months and I will have obedience classes lined up before we even get him.
Always had this breed .Hardly any training necessary. But puppies need interesting things to capture their attention and imagination .I started simply commands at eight weeks .
if you live with GSDs as I have for 40 years, you see how the pack, which you are a part of, begins teaching the pups very early on. do not wait. take an obedience class. the class is for you, not the pup. Every GSD needs you to know the basics so you can continue what mom started. amazing ball drive helps to achieve goals without food rewards.
I recently adopted a German shepherd of 8 months old. She is quite obedient but pulls dreadfully on the leach and I'm 69 with back problems,do I'm dreading training her as she is extremely strong. She also digs up the soil in all of my pots and has even pooped on the carpet 🤦🏻♀️😭. But apart from that she is totally adorabile and very intelligent. She is my third German shepherd and I love them to bits.
Ive taken my daughters 7 wk old puppy german shepard, I've been working with it on the biting and it didn't take long at all now when she looks at me she just sits , loving her she is so pretty mostly black with brown on its huge feet
My German Shepherd is 8 weeks old, Ive had him for 3 days and i can already tell hes a genius since he does his business when i put him on the chuck, though still a few accidents but he's learning quickly, i only had him for 3 days. So is it good to start teaching him tricks right now?
Sorry for the late response. To any who see this now, 8 weeks is about the best age to start training your puppy. Don't teach any parlor tricks but do teach attention and keep him/her on a leash for a while training until they stay with you and are focused. Potty training, no pulling, and no more biting is what you want to aim for.
Encourage not only breeders aiming for performance and work... But also pups meant for pets only. I admire those aimed at health and maintaining the GSD as a working dog. It's as Max Von Stephanitz, the breed founder, would have wanted it. But the fact is... Many ppl want a GSD for a pet. Solely. Breeders must now start aiming for not only healthy working stock... But calm, more neutral pet personalities~ 💕
Awesome! Be sure to check out our Free Dog Training Mini Course on www.dukeferguson.com It's a great training resource and is filled with German Shepherds throughout :)
I wish I could send my 12 week old to you. He has so much potential but I'm struggling with him. I'm in Australia so I know that isn't possible but you really an amazing trainer!
12 weeks, cute!! You don't need to send a dog away, you can do it! We have video courses and live training via Zoom. With technology today we can be half a world away and still be there with you. :) If you want an extraordinary life with your dog you can start your transformation today.
Put his fav. Treat down towards his front feet, (while he is sitting) and say (or however you want to ) down while gently pressing his head and\or shoulders down. Remember to be patient, and if you have to, reward for any bit of lowering, I would also recommend only treat every so often, so your not a treat dispenser, make it a game!
Mine is only 8 weeks of age and he's a pro at paying attention and is starting to grasp difficult commands already. People just don't so their research and really don't have a clue of dog psychology and how to train/communicate with a dog. To be fair many people also don't have the time with work and things. I'd suggest a trainer in that case. I've only owned two GSD and trained them both myself, very easy and obedient breed. I've also trained a few friends dogs including a Russian bear dog, much more stubborn breed.
I watched this once before a year or so ago. I remember thinking it was impressive. But now rewatching it I realize I have a half GSD pup and love Celtic music. So I'll be subscribing to make my dog the best dog she can be through my best abilities.
How does he feel about the shock treatment ? It is funny my dog appreciates me just asking him to do something !!! They love pleasing you in turn they show you how smart they are , unbelievable . Well i will say that you are blessed to spend time with a german shepherd
Do you guys have classes? And where are you loacted? I am getting a gsd pup named destiny soon and I may need help training her ☺️ I live in California. Do you think I can get help where I am? 💕
Well your lucky I'm pretty sure there's many places in CA but you would have to look it up I'm not sure the names. My uncle lives in LA and he got his gsd training classes and now not only is his gsd obedience trained but it's protection trained also.

My GSD only listens with treats and that only for the most basic commands. in a distracted area it's game over. Even if it's one on one, but a fly comes into the picture... game over. lol
My shepherd is 4 months today. She sits, lays and I'm teaching her to pay attention without using an e collar. Lots of people will use this but it takes time and dedication to get your dog healthy, playful and obidient. E collars can shorten the time but for me I'd rather not use this method.
Years ago, approx. 30, I trained and showed obedience. I never heard that you can't train your dog before six months. I did hear start early, but don't expect too much before 6 months. It was a reference of time based around development and varied according to breed, with some breeds having a short attention span before reaching 6mos. Guess you just made liars out of them. God only knows what caused me to train Springer Spaniels in obedience. Although I would start training before six months, they seemed to become a different dog around six months with their focus increasing 10 fold.
Vanetta Mosetta Food, toys, affection, walks, training, motivation, socialisation, attention. That’s basically it. I make it sound easy, and it is if you are dedicated yourself. Imagine the dog as a mirror of its owner. Show some dedication and give it time, and the dog will comply as shown in the video.
Just got a new GSD puppy today and would love to train him to his full Potential, any ideas on where I need to start and how please let me know hes only 9 weeks old!
Here guys: Put quite a few tidbits of the tastiest thing possible in your pocket (that your dog loves the most, like, goes CRAZY over). Go to an area in your house that you can start out some small fetch. Now, start getting your pup going by giving affection/playing/etc... Once your puppy is in high-drive/excited, throw the ball for him, and watch where he goes after he takes it. DONT chase him, DON'T run after him, just do this a couple tines and see where he takes the ball to and plops down/holds it at. Now that you know where he goes to as his default "play place", pull out another ball and gain his attention with it. Once he's come over to you and gets excited, toss the ball to an area that'll give you time to work your way over to that "play place" area and pick up the 1st ball before he gets back. When he comes back to that play place area with ball #2, you should already have the #1 ball in hand. Show him Ball #1, get him excited, and toss it, and repeat these steps. Now, after a while of doing this, get rid of one of the balls, and when he brings the ball back to you, immediately have one of those tidbits of meat (or w/e) in your hand, and then offer it to him. Once he drops the ball because he's paying attention to the treat, pick up the ball, then congratulate him with your "good words/marker word/or wherever you normally say), and then reward him with the small treat once you have the ball. Once the treat is scarfed down, get his interest on the ball again. Get him excited, then toss it. Once he Comes back, pull out the treat, and repeat the steps again. When you play fetch, ONLY play it this way for a little while (week or so). Then, week 2, move a little away from the "play space" and if he doesn't bring the ball to you (looking for the treat), then you need to rewind and go back to the "play space" and keep repeating the first steps to ensure he's made the connection. If he DOES bring the ball to you, that means he's learning that when he brings something back to you, he gets the treat. Continue gradually getting further and further away from the play space for the ball retrieval. Once he's reliably bringing back the ball and dropping it for the treat no matter what where you're at inside with no distractions, start to take the game outside in smaller areas and repeat. Gradually introduce more distractions, busier places, and only reward for success and NO reward when a distraction overrides him performing the task (SUPER reward though if you notice him ALMOST give in to a distraction but ultimately ignoring it in favor of finishing the task.) Then, once he's got it down pat, slowly stop giving him treats every single time and, instead, just instantly grab the ball and throw it for him. At first, start reducing the treats by giving a treat every other retrieval, then every other other retrieval, and so on, until your no longer rewarding him with treats, but instead rewarding him with playing the game. :) Another thing: pull out the tennis balls ONLY when YOU decide to play fetch. Don't just leave them out at all times for him to play with at his leisure. This will make the balls have a lot higher value and be more exiting. This will allow you to use "fetch" as a reward in the future for training purpose, due to the high value they have on the tennis balls (for dogs with decent drive). So, don't leave balls out for him all the time/unlimited access, because then they lose their "appeal" after a while because they're nothing new or "special" to them then. :) *NOTE: I'm not affiliated with Unleashed K9 or etc (although I think they're great trainers down there in Columbus), and the reason I used this method as the one I explained, is because it is safe for the "Novice DIY at home trainer" to do, without fear of anything going wrong. Ie- You're not gonna mess your dog up if you attempt this method but do it incorrectly. There's MANY ways to introduce fetch and train retrievals, such as using eCollars, +R/-P, balanced approaches, and many others. But, I didn't feel right trying to spell out how to do any of those because you CAN mess your dog up badly if you screw up those methods. hehe (psychologically, physically, or put them into avoidance or etc). So, hopefully this helps some of you that'd like to try your hand at teaching your dog retreival work without fear of messing up their temperament, instilling fear into them, etc.) PSS: If your dog avoids the "play space" when you're near it, then that means they are either A) showing avoidance, or, B)Trying to play the "keep away" game because someone already accidentally reinforced how fun the "keep away game" is by running after the dog when trying to get the dog to retrieve earlier on in life, hehe. If "A" is the issue, then consult a local professional to work through that issue. If "B" is the issue, then work that out by playing "tug" with your dog and teaching him to "out/release" the tug, and everytime he successfully releases, immediately reward him by giving it back (this shows the dog that when you take away a toy, they'll get it right back, so they won't think they'll heave to play "keep away" to have fun.) Ie- when a pup steals your shoe and you run after him and take it away, he will begin to associate you taking things from him with "the fun stopped". Which, turns into a lifelong "I gotta keep this thing I just picked up away from master as long as I can, to have as much fun as possible before master takes it away for good" kinda mentality. (don't worry, we've all been there, lol). If puppy takes something and runs off with it, instead you should take a toy to them, and once they release the "no no" item, give them the "yes yes" item to play with/chew on. This way, they'll associate you taking things as "no big deal, because I still get something cool in return". :)
OSP K9 that was amazingly explained and helpful. do you train dogs regularly? Ill be needing some help training my rescued German Shepherd Belgian Malousni mix who's 3yrs
germans are the greatest breed to own. theyre both cuddly little bears and vicious K9s if need be, intruders and such. but the general training with them is a breeze, especially if you have another older german the pup can learn off of. i have three german shepherds. eldest is 8 turning 9, middle hes about 3, and the youngest just turned 1! i love them all to my core :)
Well of course he ignores you when he first experiences a brand new outdoor environment and has been in crate for a while. Give him a minute to sniff around.
This young dog impressed me right out of the crate, tho your correct he wasn't paying much attention, he also wasn't barking, pulling or reacting much to the other dog, and was just sniffing around, pretty good for a pup.. Wonderful progress in a week.. This is a great dog in the making.
I just rescued 1 year old german shepherd and she obviously had no training attempted by whoever had her before me i taught her sit and lay down in two days its just not always instant as i would like it to be i do love her with all my heart though and want her to be really trained and am trying mt best
guest user there are many tools being used in the training process. The best thing to do is to not focus on the tools in training but focus on the dog and the training method itself. 2 simple questions to ask yourself when you’re looking at a dog being trained. 1. Is the training working yes or no? 2. Are the results desired and is the dog happy and on board with this training? Never mind the tools just look at the dogs. That’s the tell tail of what’s good and not good training. As you can see great progress and learning you also see a dog that is very happy! Why does it matter about what tools are being used when the results are really good.
You can train any dog... Even the homeless strays... I taught the leader of a pack of five strays to stand in a semi circle around me n take his food... Initially he would go charging to bully the 2 females who would roll over and squeal in terror.. It took a weak to teach him to stand and wait his turn... he learnt alright! Dogs understand everything...
I realize this video is yrs. old.. Looks like he has 2 collars on. are you training with an e-collar???...Doesn't show how you even began to get his attention.By ''unleashed'' is it E-COLLAR???? NICE PUP tho! Just checked the site.... as I suspected.....E -COLLAR ! The LAZY trainers way to train!!!!. $20.000 to learn how to train with E-collars !!!! NO THANKS!!!!
Actually training with an E collar is equally challenging ^^ I train service dogs and use them. And most of the trainers dont use the cheap ones, they buy the ones $200 and up because those are the most affective.
@@tehyamoberg3942 Ive been training GSDs for 50 yrs...we didnt need ecollars ,,,There are other ways to get a pups attention other then an e collar. There are far too many BAD trainers and owners out there using ecollars who dont have a clue wth theyre doing!!
Not training playing its a huge difference, from 9 weeks onward GSD training can begin, but all training will begin with the dog sitting comfortably on the lead by your left side. From here all training begins
Thank you for sharing your video with me I was really amazed I know how to deal with my first German Shepherd he is 3 months old I hope with the training of my doing with him will be an impact from what I see how you do with your Shepherd again thank you for your video

Thanks for your service brother! I just got a German Shepherd and named him Benno after a dog KIA that belonged to the U.S Army Rangers.

very true
They are super smart , I have had my boy for almost a year now and I taught him how to play dead with fingers and a verbal bang in ONE DAY... he is the best
Awww Max ❤
Love the Scottish sounding triumph music once the dog starts paying attention
Bag pipes..
I couldn’t imagine not training a dog until 6 months. By six months my dogs are pretty much completely obedience trained. They still have room to grow , but, I mean, they have a solid foundation by then.
Same here, those puppies will drive you insane without training, manners and guidelines!
@@sarebearxo yes as long as there well socialised and are givimg time to get to know the person, animal
Ok! Thank you
I have a German Shepard when I'm having company over I introduce them at the door..one time she went crazy barking at one Of my friend...couple of weeks later that particular friend was arrested for burglary and had an extensive wrap sheet.
My GSD is my service dog. Saved my life more times than I can count.

Have you tried using treats? ...
Weird, it works fine for dull husbands who think jokes like these are funny
CyanAnn It doesn’t work on stagnant pieces of shit who need to lighten up and laugh a little, though?
Hahahha love your comment. You are in the dog house now.
My GSD Ina still runs off every now and then when she sees something interesting, haha (she does come back immediately when called, at least).
trained my 6week old in 3 days.
i was so tired of our lilly biting us all the time and then i used a few tips i learned from the tinyurl.com/yaq8h47b -- videos. it was like night and day; worked so well

I'm used to pit bulls so having a German Shepherd is new to me
You got his attention. That's the key. A relationship hierarchy has to be established.
My GS is now 5 months old and I really like how you taught him that much in a week. I need to start training him asap
So sorry for your loss..They are family members. We miss ours, too.
What an adorable dog. I love his big ears.
I know this is years later but how is he now??? Beautiful dog
Doesn't work for pet scorpion.

have you tried using treats?
or things it likes?
Haha maybe in 230 years you can have a "trained" fallout pet scorpion. After being froze question is what would you name it?

GSD is the best dog hands down....for the correct owner ofcourse.
The bond with a GSD is unlike anything. I live all dogs but cant explain how we are. He knows...
So true. Every GSD I've been around, even a mixed breed just gets along with me. I love them so much.
I've had my puppy 4 days now, he's almost 11 weeks old. I've already got him to sit on command it can mostly be down to the dog themselves being smart enough I think
Jack O Donnell same here, he got it way to quick I was expecting a little bit more of work
This is patched in the 2019 update
LMFAO
Yeah, but only if you buy the service pack.
There’s a glitch you can do after patch 28.8.2020 where it works but it’s a lot harder to teach them tricks
2020*
I don’t get it
What's matters the most is socializing the young dog to anything and everything.

I know this was posted 10 years ago 🥹 but Diesel being shown just a week later after some work, gave me butterflies. Nothing better than an unengaged dog doing a 180° turn in just a week. They want to please us but we must relay what we need 🦋🐾🦋
Hi Lettie how are you doing today
I really appreciate you not raising your voice or yelling at the dog, I feel too many people think the only way to train is yelling at their dog
My obedience class teacher had a beautiful German shepherd and it was perfectly trained, named Stepper. Fell in love with him, fifty years ago, and he still lives on in my memories. Wonderful breed, and very intelligent. ❤️
Didn’t see anything to keep my pup from using our arms/ leg as a bone . Still biting us at 5 months . Ugh
Lol! :0)

Hello 👋
I'm on to my second GSD the last one past away 9 months ago at 9 years old of cancer. Max, the 10 week old "male" pup is a lot more demanding and diffidently head strong but he has now learnt to sit, stay, down, come etc. The potty at night around 3 am can be a bit of a bummer but that's all expected. Looking forward to when I can take him out after his second lot of vaccinations.
I've never heard of the 6 month "rule". That's crazy. We're planning to get a German Shepherd in a few months and I will have obedience classes lined up before we even get him.
Yeah Nice
Hello
Just got a 12 week puppy he doesn’t do anything when I call him so this is helping me a lot
That is the most awesome and appropriate background music track! Awesome video, too! That Diesel IS a good boy! A lot of change in 7 days.
Awesome.... I just got a a 6weeks GSD today hope I can start training with these tips
You can do it!
That video I just watched was amazing. The guy was training a 17 week old german shepherd, and his methods were really great.
She is my third German shepherd and I love them to bits.
it's a sweet dog well socialized , liked

Can you actually teach the owners to stay motivated and keep the training consistent? I’m not cutting on you thats a struggle I have as a dog trainer.

Shay Perez is he still alive
xXPro GamerXx Bruh really 😂😂 its less than a year old
Casen Thompson dude maybe he died you never know
Sorry for the late response. To any who see this now, 8 weeks is about the best age to start training your puppy. Don't teach any parlor tricks but do teach attention and keep him/her on a leash for a while training until they stay with you and are focused. Potty training, no pulling, and no more biting is what you want to aim for.
My dog is 8weeks as well need help here !
I'm so jealous ....help help help this is what I want and my dog needs.
I LOVED this video! These training tips were so practical
Good to see I had a dog she was 14 years old when I showed her to do a trick and she did it
Encourage not only breeders aiming for performance and work...
I have a German Shepard she’s starting to listen really well. We have only had her 3 months. We would like to take her a little bit further.
Awesome! Be sure to check out our Free Dog Training Mini Course on www.dukeferguson.com It's a great training resource and is filled with German Shepherds throughout :)

Put his fav. Treat down towards his front feet, (while he is sitting) and say (or however you want to ) down while gently pressing his head and\or shoulders down. Remember to be patient, and if you have to, reward for any bit of lowering,
I would also recommend only treat every so often, so your not a treat dispenser, make it a game!

Celtic wind by rosalind richards.

I've also trained a few friends dogs including a Russian bear dog, much more stubborn breed.
super awesome, I think my boys ready for some training!

They are the most cutest dog when they are pups, i own 3 german shepherds and they are well protecting dogs for my family

My dog doesnt bring it back
Mine can't eather
He takes it, he runs to me and then when i want to take it he runs away again
Can Gun teach him to drop it by rewarding him with treats, slowly phase out the treats
Here guys:
Put quite a few tidbits of the tastiest thing possible in your pocket (that your dog loves the most, like, goes CRAZY over).
Gradually introduce more distractions, busier places, and only reward for success and NO reward when a distraction overrides him performing the task (SUPER reward though if you notice him ALMOST give in to a distraction but ultimately ignoring it in favor of finishing the task.)
Then, once he's got it down pat, slowly stop giving him treats every single time and, instead, just instantly grab the ball and throw it for him. At first, start reducing the treats by giving a treat every other retrieval, then every other other retrieval, and so on, until your no longer rewarding him with treats, but instead rewarding him with playing the game. :)
Another thing: pull out the tennis balls ONLY when YOU decide to play fetch. :)
*NOTE: I'm not affiliated with Unleashed K9 or etc (although I think they're great trainers down there in Columbus), and the reason I used this method as the one I explained, is because it is safe for the "Novice DIY at home trainer" to do, without fear of anything going wrong.
So, hopefully this helps some of you that'd like to try your hand at teaching your dog retreival work without fear of messing up their temperament, instilling fear into them, etc.)
PSS: If your dog avoids the "play space" when you're near it, then that means they are either A) showing avoidance, or, B)Trying to play the "keep away" game because someone already accidentally reinforced how fun the "keep away game" is by running after the dog when trying to get the dog to retrieve earlier on in life, hehe. If "A" is the issue, then consult a local professional to work through that issue. If "B" is the issue, then work that out by playing "tug" with your dog and teaching him to "out/release" the tug, and everytime he successfully releases, immediately reward him by giving it back (this shows the dog that when you take away a toy, they'll get it right back, so they won't think they'll heave to play "keep away" to have fun.)
Ie- when a pup steals your shoe and you run after him and take it away, he will begin to associate you taking things from him with "the fun stopped".
Ill be needing some help training my rescued German Shepherd Belgian Malousni mix who's 3yrs
germans are the greatest breed to own. theyre both cuddly little bears and vicious K9s if need be, intruders and such. but the general training with them is a breeze, especially if you have another older german the pup can learn off of. i have three german shepherds. eldest is 8 turning 9, middle hes about 3, and the youngest just turned 1! i love them all to my core :)
hahahaha my youngest german is also mixed so she looks like a fox/hyena/german hybrid and its epic
Well of course he ignores you when he first experiences a brand new outdoor environment and has been in crate for a while. Give him a minute to sniff around.
thats why he skipped the time to 5 10 and 15 minutes dimwit dave. fucking disgrace again...
This young dog impressed me right out of the crate, tho your correct he wasn't paying much attention, he also wasn't barking, pulling or reacting much to the other dog, and was just sniffing around, pretty good for a pup.. Wonderful progress in a week.. This is a great dog in the making.
Paying attention is the key to dog and horse training. Good video.
Does smacking your dog in the head work?
fuck no! don't hit your dog! man that will only make them scared of you
Shut up bitch it acceptable depending on the situation!
well I may be a bitch I may not be a bitch do I hit my dog no if you do that that's cool but you posted a comment and I commented on it so ya
Your cool Alexis!
you're not bad yourself there partner
I just rescued 1 year old german shepherd and she obviously had no training attempted by whoever had her before me i taught her sit and lay down in two days its just not always instant as i would like it to be i do love her with all my heart though and want her to be really trained and am trying mt best
Dude, are you using an e-collar on a 17 week-old puppy? For real???
Dude, Do you see how happy and attentive the dog is? For real!
Could be just using the beep to reinforce attention. The collars don't just "shock".
guest user there are many tools being used in the training process.
Thought I saw a remote in his hand...
@@tehyamoberg3942 Ive been training GSDs for 50 yrs...we didnt need ecollars ,,,There are other ways to get a pups attention other then an e collar. There are far too many BAD trainers and owners out there using ecollars who dont have a clue wth theyre doing!!
4:30 love how you used the chuckit to fix the backend position
Not training playing its a huge difference, from 9 weeks onward GSD training can begin, but all training will begin with the dog sitting comfortably on the lead by your left side. From here all training begins
Thank you for sharing your video with me I was really amazed I know how to deal with my first German Shepherd he is 3 months old I hope with the training of my doing with him will be an impact from what I see how you do with your Shepherd again thank you for your video
