Yes, the major downside of silent recording using IR’s. One thing I will do (can’t recall if I did it for this one or not) is also run to amplified cab in addition to the direct interface input / IR. This allows me to capture the feedback aspect which is really needed for proper sustain in drone.

Something I’m curious about as well. They discuss the frustrations of overdubbing and using reamping in this interview: www.guitarworld.com/amp/features/sunn-o-black-hole-sunn
@@DoesItDoom I'm shocked to see Sunn apparently recorded clean and reamped, it seems like the amount of feedback-driven sustain and the importance of tonal character would make playing it clean pretty challenging. Guessing that they played through big amps while tracking and just split the signal, because otherwise that sounds like a recipe for disaster.
Only thing is to be careful of putting a bass head through guitar speakers. Often times, bass heads push way more power than guitar speakers are rated for.
@@joshua.merrill I was thinking of buying a bass amp, not a head on a guitar amp. I mean, simply speaking, a guitar on a bass amp should sound thicker and hopefully not muddy. No?
@@DaimonosUlv Apologies for the impending info dump, but hopefully it helps out: What I'm saying is that bass amps can get upwards of 800 watts pretty easily. A lot of bass cabinets/speakers are going to be rated for 800+ watts. Guitar speakers/cabinets tend to be rated for 60-120 watts, sometimes 240 watts. If you take a bass amp/head rated for 800 watts and put it on a guitar speaker/cab rated for 120 watts, you will burn up those speakers. So, I'm just saying to be aware of the power ratings for the speaker and amp combination so you don't accidentally destroy your speakers. Also the Ohm/resistance rating is important so you don't burn up the amp, but bass amps tend to have low Ohm ratings, so it's a lower risk that you'll burn up a bass amp. As far as sound goes, a bass amp tends to have a more clear low-end, which reduces some of the muddiness. I will say that my bass-oriented gear sounds better with my bass than with my drop-tuned 7 string. I think the thickness of the bass strings works better for the bass gear, but experimentation is definitely the only way to do something unique. I would say to bring your guitar to a music shop and try out different bass amps to see if it does what you want before dropping any big money on an amp. My 7 string sounds better on the $100 Orange Micro Dark than my $1000 Ampeg PF-50T, as an example. Same thing with pedals, the 7 string doesn't sound as good on the Darkglass Alpha Omicron as it does on the Guardian of the Wurm or Acorn amps MindKiller.
