He really struggled being away from his lovely wife (hence this song... "Burn For You"), and he also didn't want to uproot his family to another country to further his singing career. So he was content to work mostly in Australia, with just a few trips abroad. Can't fault that kind of Love, can you?

Apparently John always intended for it to be sung slowly and more of a ballad but their record company made them speed it up. I remember first time I heard him sing it on Telethon for the kids hospital here in Western Australia in early 80s.

John Farnham is Australian rock royalty. His voice range is A2 to D5 - quite a number of octaves. He can sing anything. You need to watch him LIVE in concert. He is the ultimate showman, the mike master, totally energetic and charismatic with great interaction with the audience who are with him all the way. His concerts with the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra are amazing and a number of those songs from the concerts are on You Tube. He never sort stardom in the USA preferring to be with his wife and family and disliking the corporate demands. For something the opposite ie., faster, check out "Playing To Win" at the above mentioned concerts.

Musically, his tone hits every note with perfect pitch. His runs here are filled with extraordinary control. Few singers can control that swoop from high range to Low without losing power like he did. As a professional musician, I hear a trained singer - yet he rough and tumbled around his natural talent. I suggested this here last week during the valentine day covers. So glad you picked it up. John started singing in Australia here in Melbourne in the 1960s, along with Olivia Newton John. He remade his career in the 1980s with an album called Whispering Jack. He was also in the Little River Band. His voice is amazing and at one point was in talks to front Queen after Freddie died. He didn't like touring though, as he had to leave his family behind and i think that is what this song is about. His wife was a dancer before they married. Suggest a song called Every time you cry, which he did with Human Nature.

The term you’re looking for is his falsetto when he’s gone from his main voice through his head voice which he uses just before that leap into his falsetto …. Just to let everyone know outside of Australia,John Farnham has just undergone a 12 hour operation for a Tumor/cancer in his mouth.The surgeons are confident they have taken all the cancer,where they had to take part of his jaw out to get to the cancer and have rebuilt his jaw.Prayers all will go well and recovery will take some time.

John Farnham was born in the UK the Family moved to Australia when John was 10. He Recently had part of his Jaw bone removed due to Bone Cancer. I have been a fan of his since I was a young Childhood. I am 61 now

John is one of Australia's great legends. He's the epitome of what it means to be Australian. We love our families. He chose Australia and we didn't disappoint him just as he's never let us down. He's always been a mate when we needed his aid and we've happily lifted him when he's asked for our help. The reason he's our voice, is because he is us... The Aussie battler, authentically Aussie, honest, tell it as it is with no bulls##t.

John Farnham is Australian rock royalty. His voice range is A2 to D5 - quite a number of octaves. He can sing anything. You need to watch him LIVE in concert. He is the ultimate showman, the mike master, totally energetic and charismatic with great interaction with the audience who are with him all the way. His concerts with the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra are amazing and a number of those songs from the concerts are on You Tube. He never sort stardom in the USA preferring to be with his wife and family and disliking the corporate demands. For something the opposite ie., faster, check out "Playing To Win" at the above mentioned concerts.
Oh I agree. It's best to watch John live. His stage presence is fantastic. Such a wonderful performer & a humble guy. Also has an amazing sense of humour & rapport with his audiences. It's a song about missing your significant other while your away working, travelling, gigging.
I suggested this here last week during the valentine day covers. So glad you picked it up. John started singing in Australia here in Melbourne in the 1960s, along with Olivia Newton John. He remade his career in the 1980s with an album called Whispering Jack. He was also in the Little River Band. His voice is amazing and at one point was in talks to front Queen after Freddie died. He didn't like touring though, as he had to leave his family behind and i think that is what this song is about. His wife was a dancer before they married. Suggest a song called Every time you cry, which he did with Human Nature.

Love your reaction to John (you should do more). Please try and stick with live performances. John really feeds off his audience. Others have recommended "Help" with the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra where this really shows.

The other point is that the guitar is an electric.with a very compressed clean sound …..
You need to do a song he did with another australian legend jimmy barnes, song is called : something is wrong with my baby , then a jimmy barnes with joe bonnamassa : stone cold , it has what both you love horns and piano with a great solo guitar

He is an incredible live performer and you need to see him in his true element on stage!

Ah, Farnham. A legend in Australia who is not as well known in the U.S. as he deserves. Try his stuff with Little River Band too. Songs like "Forever Blue, and The Other Guy." Further solo stuff includes "Pressure Down", "A Touch of Paradise", and "Two Strong Hearts."
If you want another good Australian voice try Jimmy Barnes solo or with his band Cold Chisel.

I've heard lots of songs by John, but hadn't heard this one before. Absolutely, beautifully stunning. Great lyrics, and the pace and emotion behind them hit me in the heart.

Just to let everyone know outside of Australia,John Farnham has just undergone a 12 hour operation for a Tumor/cancer in his mouth.The surgeons are confident they have taken all the cancer,where they had to take part of his jaw out to get to the cancer and have rebuilt his jaw.Prayers all will go well and recovery will take some time.

John Farnham was born in the UK the Family moved to Australia when John was 10. He Recently had part of his Jaw bone removed due to Bone Cancer. I have been a fan of his since I was a young Childhood. I am 61 now

They are both awesome.
John is one of Australia's great legends. He's the epitome of what it means to be Australian. We love our families. He chose Australia and we didn't disappoint him just as he's never let us down. He's always been a mate when we needed his aid and we've happily lifted him when he's asked for our help. The reason he's our voice, is because he is us... The Aussie battler, authentically Aussie, honest, tell it as it is with no bulls##t.
