Krieg in a fundamental level is the only imperial guard with artillery armor and infantry in a single regiment, they're normally all separated out of fear of betrayal. This is because of how utterly loyal Kriegs are. Additionally, Krieg training is amongst the most brutal, it makes even Space Marines blink in surprise.
Death Korps Regiments are some of the only Regiments throughout the Imperial Guard that are trusted to use Combined Arms warfare, and the planet of Krieg is even capable of producing the guns, armor, artillery, and ammo to do so. Kriegsmen aren't exactly known for a reputation of turning away from the Emperor's Light.
Baldemort’s Guide to Warhammer: Death Korp of Krieg is a great narrative introduction. Arch: Death Korp of Krieg is an excellent explanation of their history, structure and mindset.
and Arch's is filled with his wry humor, funny as hell at times. A joy to listen to. Just the way he said.. "launch codes" cracks me up every time i watch it.
In WWI (which heavily influenced Death Korps) a favourite weapon for hand to hand fighting was their shovels. They didn't get caught in ribs, as bayonets often did, and could smash in a steel helmet, with the head underneath it.
imagine a corpse of Krieg Space Marine I'm willing to bet that's the one chapter out of the all that could handle more than a thousand Space Marines aside from the Dark Angels but we don't talk about them
Chaos Marine: You have nothing! We Are To Powerful! Death Korp: We have Lazguns. Chaos Marine: One of those can do nothing! Death Korp: What about 10,000?
Krieg teach their troop to wear their mask like a second skin and they do it to their horse to because they really love to use chemicals weapon like it going out of style. if you want to know more about the Death korp wacth arch video he did a hour and 14 min talking about them.
Isn't one of the reason is because they're actually just kids, around aged 14 to 16 making them child-soldiers and that the gas-masks is to hide that from other regiments?
Do not be afraid to root for whoever you want. There's a saying I've heard to describe 40k recently: when everyone's OP, nobody is OP. Well, in this case, when everyone's an asshole, nobody is a good guy.

"Endless content with Warhammer 40k". This is the most accurate statement I've heard in ages. Also, I recommend the Ork video by the same creator 'Sodaz' called "Black Templar". Because orks iz best! (and also more Space Marines).
Probably worth mentioning that the Death Korps of Krieg wear uniforms very simliar to those worn by the Imperial Germany Army in WW1. Their tactics are inspired by those of the Entente in WW1 - costly Human wave assaults to grind the enemy down using attrition, because they can afford the losses. Their use of shovels as melee weapons is, again, from WW1. Every soldier carried a shovel as an entrenching tool, and they are perfectly capably of caving in a skull or breaking bones. Also, while the wearing of gas masks all the time is purely due to the lore, everyone (both Human and Horse) carried one in WW1 from 1915 onwards because chemical warfare was a thing.
Fun facts >They’re from a planet of traitors >loyalists eager to fight for the Imperium >Will happily give their lives if it means progress to the imperium >the loyalists nuked their own planet >they’re born and bred artificially >built to age to maturity ASAP > what you’re looking at are most likely teenage soldiers >these Teenage Soldiers are one of the most feared factions among the imperium
Ah! Favorite faction is the Orks. My reason is, that of all the factions in 40K, the Orks are the only ones that have found true happiness. Tuska the Demon Killa has essentially reached Utopia for an Ork. Check out his story. It's another awesome story in 40K.
The Death Korps are some of the only humans to willingly run into hand to hand combat with a space marine. I would argue they have the same steel balls as a space marine, they do not fear death.
My Favorite Faction: Ultramarines. Now, sorry but my English is low so let me tell you in Spanish XD: ¿Porque usan todos máscaras?
Death Korps of Krieg: step on a landmine? Congratulations! You have saved your company from a landmine! Got shot by enemy forces? Congratulations! You've drawn fire away from your company! Died to an enemy melee blow? Congratulations! You've brought the enemy into bayonet range!
Brotha Black, people are forgetting to tell you in the comments, that the reason they all look alike is because they use cloning to maintain their numbers, which is a highly dubious techology, but the Imperium overlooks its use as the Krieg regiments are so useful to the war effort. That's why they use gas masks, all of them, so the other allied units do not realize what is going on. They are also not named, only use numbers and numerals to designate the guardsman, because they are so expendable.
Of all the imperial guard, The Death Korps are the most feared. The basic rundown of their backstory is that they had a planet-wide civil war which ended in a nuclear holocaust. After living underground and still fighting, Kriegers were given a chance by the Imperium and now request to be sent to the worst warzones in the universe. Entire battalions will launch themselves at the enemy to die for the emperor or die trying. They're also masters of wars of attition, hence the ww1 aethetic. Also, the entrenching tool is kind of an inside joke among 40k fans in that Krieg marines don't use blades for melee, but shovels. That, and during the Herasy, a Krieg marine managed to kill an Astartes with one.
Since no one else seems to have gotten the reason right yet I'll sound off on it. The death corps and their mounts all almost always wear not only a gas mask but a full nuclear, biological, and chemical protection suit because they (among other things) specialize in contamination warfare, both caused by the enemy and themselves (they are rather partial to some nasty gas grenades and gas artillery). They also specialize in tunnel warfare and as others have mentioned attrition warfare. They have perfected these by having 500 years of constant bloody war on their home world in tunnels under the surface and massive battles on the heavily irradiated surface.
If you wanna know how badass Kriegers are; Siege of Vraks - this imperial guard army held back demons - literal demons - chaos space marines - hell they took on Titans. And if you think Space Marines are nuts - in lore Titans are "Machine Gods of War, capable of ripping continents apart".
Fun fact, alot of the chaos marine armor resembles space marine armor from before the Horus heresy when they turned traitor. They aren't apart of the imperium so they don't get the new armor designs current space marines have
Favorite Factions: 1) Imperial Guard 2) Space Marines 3) Sisters of Battle Favorite Space Marine Chapters: 1) Raven Guard 2) Blood Ravens 3) Dark Angels (The Space Marines in this video) 4) Space Wolves 5) Black Templar 6) Grey Knights
My favorites? The Orks. They run in headlong giving no fucks if they live or die like Kriegsman, but for them, it's all for fun. A galaxy full of war is just one big pub crawl for them. Baldemort has a whole 'Kronan the Kunnin'' series bout how they roll.
your guy in the red who wiped the tunnel fighters, that's a World Eater. they specialize in melee combat and graphic violence like nothing you've ever seen before. they have brain implants that scorch their nervous system so they can ONLY feel seething rage, that ONLY lets up in the throes of hot combat and drives them COMPLETELY "war wacky"
Your reactions are just so honest and heartfelt. And it is funny you mention the love the community has for it, here we are 5 months later and GW has totally kicked the fans to the curb. GW has driven the creator of this video away, he will never make another video for 40k again. That is how the love is repaid :(
He’s actually pretty good lore wise for being new to the lore and uhhh about the gas mask thing wellllll krieg basically is fallout 4 but an entire planed and 100 times more irradiated
@@archdornan4389 The universal language is DAKKA. The language of the guardsmen is the thundering roar of artillery cannons firing and the earth's crust cracking.
I believe the gas mask wearing character models are from a different game. But I'd say the reason to wear them and for the horses is either (Planet is Krieg, which is a wasteland with harsh conditions) or the are (Fighting Chaos Marines of Nurgle, who is the Chaos God of Plague and Pestilence) he uses viral and plague weaponry often and the masks might help. But then again it could just be because its easier to animate and copy instead of facial features for all the models
The tank in the video is called a leman russ main battle tank, named after the primarch of the space wolves aka the vulka fenryka aka space Vikings, imagine a Bradley IFV with the firepower of an Abrams. There are patterns of this tank that can destroy titans, there's even knight commanders famous for doing exactly that. The loyalist marines are dark angels who are the rivals of the space wolves and their primarch is lion l Johnson, and considering all of these units are deployed means that this is a crusade which is the warhammer term for a military campaign. I recommend you watch the dawn of war opening. And that is called a chainsword which is primarily a weapon for psychological warfare and like all of those weapons it's impractical but it's effectiveness far outweighs that
The Death Korps is the only unit of the Imperial Guard where the Comissars exist to restrain their impulse to sacrifice themselves for the Emperor. The Death Korps, sometimes they win, sometimes they lose, either way they die. And they're fine with that.
You should see Arch's video on the Death Korps of Krieg. Wich coincidentally is the first part of a looong series where the Korps lays siege to a Planet
The one Chaos Marine towards the end in the red armor? Dude's a Khorne Berzerker. Basically, the four Chaos Gods are Tzeentch, Nurgle, Slaanesh, and Khorne, each an embodiment of one or more concepts... Khorne is basically pure rage, bloodthirst, and violence. So his devotees are already terrifying in close-quarters combat, but Berzerkers are on another level. In a one-on-one melee battle, there's few even among the Space Marines who could stand up to Berzerker without some sort of significant advantage, because these guys go *that hard. I don't know how they are in the latest edition of the tabletop game (I can't imagine massively different, since Chaos hasn't gotten a new army rulebook yet so they're still using last edition's), but they're one of the few units where it's actually probably better to just abandon ranged weapons entirely and just stick to melee weapons, since if you can get them into melee range they can shred most enemy infantry like tissue paper.
krieg being apart of the imperial guards in general is definitely one of my top 3 favorite factions, i also really like the imperial fists with their primarch Rogal dorn and the death guard chaos marines.
Im just putting this here since i think noone does but, in the lore while there is comisar(like comander thay cheer the group and execute Deserter) The Krieg Comisar were there To Stall/Slow down their advancement Because since krieg doesn't fear Death they basicly Run Through allied Artillery Bombardments just to kill Enemy and Serve the emperor by Dying
While comments may give you info, I'd check out Baldemort's Guide's channel. He has a voice acted backstory to the DKoK. but a little bit of info, every Imperial planet pays a tithe of some sort to the wider Imperium to help galactic war efforts, whether it be Regiments of Guardsmen, tanks, supplies, food, etc.. There are..iirc, ten levels of tithes. The death world of Krieg is subjected to the most extreme tithe, and they fulfill it gratefully. Each year, the planet of Krieg produces 50 million guardsmen with their own supporting aircraft, armor, artillery, uniforms, etc. to be sent- at their request- to the most hellish battlefields. Their debut was on the planet of Vraks, which was a siege that lasted 17 years.
Gotta give my man props he's the first newbie 40k reactor I've seen notice the grenade lance

Additionally, Krieg training is amongst the most brutal, it makes even Space Marines blink in surprise.
Not entirely, Armageddon also Fields Atrillery, Infantry and Tank regiments, using the excuse that they are all "Mechanized" regiments
I imagine Lamenters wince at the sight of Krieg Guardsmen. Dark Angels wouldn’t mind them though.
You may have permission to die only when the emperor decrees it and not a moment sooner.
-krieg.
In WWI (which heavily influenced Death Korps) a favourite weapon for hand to hand fighting was their shovels.
They didn't get caught in ribs, as bayonets often did, and could smash in a steel helmet, with the head underneath it.
The Death Korps of Krieg. In a heavy metal fictional universe, they manage to be the most metal of all.
Metal? They're the entire fucking periodic table.
The story of Kreig is a great story. The Death Korps are hard AF.
fun fact those horses are more like grizzly bears in terms of toughness they can and will tank bolter rounds
Arch made a huge series on the Siege of Vraks, which shows the brutality of the lads from Kreig.
Kriegsman gets stab “ah ha you have fallen in my trap”
imagine a corpse of Krieg Space Marine I'm willing to bet that's the one chapter out of the all that could handle more than a thousand Space Marines aside from the Dark Angels but we don't talk about them
The red Chaos Marine was tearing them Krieger's to pieces! Epic stuff.
Well Kriegs goal are to die so its a Win win
@Andrew Whiting I mean that's also pretty elite for krieg standards apart from the watchmasters
@@Razgriz_01 no it because krieg love to use gas weapon and a way to freak out ememeny because you can't tell what differnt between people.
I love the fact 40k is becoming increasingly popular and new fans are created every day. Hope you get into it dude, Warhammer is SERIOUS!!!!
Thank for the positive look on 40k
It is a joy to hear that someone likes it from any of its many stand points
im a sucker for the Thousand Sons to be honest, love the blue and gold
When they get to fight, they make happy gas mask noises...
Do not be afraid to root for whoever you want. There's a saying I've heard to describe 40k recently: when everyone's OP, nobody is OP. Well, in this case, when everyone's an asshole, nobody is a good guy.
The Jokaero is tho
And so is the Enclave
Yeah man, he only took a rocket through one heart. Hes fiiiiiiine.
Arch has a video that goes in depth on the death corp of Krieg. It's about 75 minutes long, and definitely a language warning.
ua-cam.com/video/I8pJ4PgKFVM/v-deo.html
Really good resource as well for WH 40k and WH Fantasy lore
Krieg horses aren't so much horses as they are grizzly bears pretending to be horses
Props to the reaction. Welcome to the 40k world
from what i have seen over the years the warhammer 40k (or just warhammer in general) is a very welcoming community with so many lvls to it you got the guys who love to play and collect the table top pieces for there army's you got people making some beautiful fan films and you got the guys who love to comb over every piece of warhammer lore
Honestly seeing this man react to 40k brings me so much joy because it reminds me of when I first found the hobby
In Life, War.
In Death, Peace.
In Life, Shame.
In Death, Atonement.
"Krieg means 'War'"
Of course it means war.
There is only war.
And yeah the animation perfectly captures the death korps attitude
First mistake of the Opfor
they let the Death Korps of Krieg on the planet
Second mistake of the Opfor
they made trenches, the natural Habitat of a true Vetgrown Kriegsman
Third mistake of the Opfor
they retreated, meaning only more opportunity to charge at the enemy
Archwarhammer did a good lore video on the Death Core of Krieg
"Endless content with Warhammer 40k".
This is the most accurate statement I've heard in ages. Also, I recommend the Ork video by the same creator 'Sodaz' called "Black Templar". Because orks iz best! (and also more Space Marines).
one reason they wear gasmasks, a lot of them are about 14-15 years old. but the main reason is their home planet is a radioactive hellscape
my favorite is the imperial, but specifically the Salamanders Legion of the space marines Vulkan Lives!
Favorite faction, and the army I currently play... Death Korp of Krieg. That's what brought me here!
The planet broke before the gaurd did.
So it literally mean Death Corps of War. It kinda sounds weird now
Probably worth mentioning that the Death Korps of Krieg wear uniforms very simliar to those worn by the Imperial Germany Army in WW1.
The Death Korps of Kreig Almost NEVER remove the gasmask. They think of it as a second skin. Considering their home world is a radioactive death ball.
Yes. Yerres. Every willing recrut is welcome. Join chaos Brother JOIN CHAOS!!!!!

Are my favorite. Tuska The Demon Killa is my favorite being in 40K. That guy, his waagh, his whole story is fucking hilarious.
Fun facts
>They’re from a planet of traitors
>loyalists eager to fight for the Imperium
>Will happily give their lives if it means progress to the imperium
>the loyalists nuked their own planet
>they’re born and bred artificially
>built to age to maturity ASAP
> what you’re looking at are most likely teenage soldiers
>these Teenage Soldiers are one of the most feared factions among the imperium
Guardsman this is a suicide mission!
DC of K (happy gas mask noises) FINALLY I CAN DIE.
Also
I AM Alpharius
I've been a Dark Angel since 1991 :)
You're alright bro, fun reaction.
I appreciate that
I've loved Warhammer 40k for over two decades and it's good to see folks show interested in it.
Ah! Favorite faction is the Orks. My reason is, that of all the factions in 40K, the Orks are the only ones that have found true happiness. Tuska the Demon Killa has essentially reached Utopia for an Ork. Check out his story. It's another awesome story in 40K.
I LOVE Arch's vid on Tuska, utterly hilarious.
Baldermorts guide to 40k. He covers so much lore
Favorite faction. Currently Necron. But I do have Blood Angels, orks, Chaos Undevided, and a few Eldar figs.
The Death Korps are some of the only humans to willingly run into hand to hand combat with a space marine. I would argue they have the same steel balls as a space marine, they do not fear death.
My Favorite Faction: Ultramarines.
Now, sorry but my English is low so let me tell you in Spanish XD:
Death Korps of Krieg: step on a landmine? Congratulations! You have saved your company from a landmine!
Got shot by enemy forces? Congratulations! You've drawn fire away from your company!
Died to an enemy melee blow? Congratulations! You've brought the enemy into bayonet range!
Death Korps are what got me into 40k
Thanks for the reaction. You’re really grasping the milieu. Good job!
*Only in Death, does Duty end.*
Welcome to the 40k family brother.
May the emperor watch over you always.
Vat grown humans in artificial wombs. They aren't clones.
In life, war. In death, peace. In life, shame. In death, atonement. Death Korps of Krieg
They have perfected these by having 500 years of constant bloody war on their home world in tunnels under the surface and massive battles on the heavily irradiated surface.
yeah chaos marines are dope
If you wanna know how badass Kriegers are;
Siege of Vraks - this imperial guard army held back demons - literal demons - chaos space marines - hell they took on Titans.
And if you think Space Marines are nuts - in lore Titans are "Machine Gods of War, capable of ripping continents apart".
Fun fact, alot of the chaos marine armor resembles space marine armor from before the Horus heresy when they turned traitor. They aren't apart of the imperium so they don't get the new armor designs current space marines have
Favorite Factions:
1) Imperial Guard
2) Space Marines
3) Sisters of Battle
Favorite Space Marine Chapters:
1) Raven Guard
2) Blood Ravens
3) Dark Angels (The Space Marines in this video)
4) Space Wolves
5) Black Templar
6) Grey Knights
"Do they speak?"
Only when spoken to.
They speak the universal language, Artillery.
@@archdornan4389 The universal language is DAKKA. The language of the guardsmen is the thundering roar of artillery cannons firing and the earth's crust cracking.
The world of Krieg ships out 50 million fresh Death Korps every year
that is insane !
I expected a lot more
I believe the gas mask wearing character models are from a different game.
And that is called a chainsword which is primarily a weapon for psychological warfare and like all of those weapons it's impractical but it's effectiveness far outweighs that
I would say thats like a Mark 5 tank with an Abrams amount of power turret attached
And also, chainsword are technically better than normal sword
The Death Korps is the only unit of the Imperial Guard where the Comissars exist to restrain their impulse to sacrifice themselves for the Emperor. The Death Korps, sometimes they win, sometimes they lose, either way they die. And they're fine with that.
I like the smoke effect at the beginning, made me lol
You should see Arch's video on the Death Korps of Krieg. Wich coincidentally is the first part of a looong series where the Korps lays siege to a Planet
My Favorite Faction is the Imperial Guard. they're the shield of the Imperium of Man. the Emperors wall.
So I myself am also new to the Warhammer experience.
As far as I know, Krieg (the planet in Warhammer) is a WW1 Nuclear death trap.
krieg being apart of the imperial guards in general is definitely one of my top 3 favorite factions, i also really like the imperial fists with their primarch Rogal dorn and the death guard chaos marines.
I've played many different factions in 40k since the late 1980s but my favourites are my Imperial Guard, Dark Angels and Orks.
