You're so pretty Becca and I love your channel. I'm usually a silent viewer, but I like to comment once and a while. Thank you for working so hard for us.
R. tetrasperma is one of my favorites. In my collection I have 2 and I think they are so charming. I bought my original plant in 2019 from a local nursery for $15. I live in a high desert environment but it doesn't seem to mind the low humidity (unlike my Hoya Matilde) It is hit or miss when I try to propagate it but interestingly they are usually in stock at home depot/lowes in my area every year.
Am I the only one who remembers Dioone edule having a moment? I don’t remember exactly when, but probably 5-ish years ago. I looked them up recently because I remembered there being a little fuss around them-many people were sharing their newly germinated seeds with one or two leaves, and everyone calling them “Jurassic plant”-but it was like that little moment never happened. I will also say that R. tetrasperma does occasionally appear around here. We’re a little behind the times in terms of what’s available in shops, so people locally are still into it, or sometimes just newly into it. I had decided long ago not to get one because I didn’t want to devote space to one when I preferred most Monsteras, as well a R. decursiva. But then a friend gave me a tetrasperma, and it has won me over. It’s so effortlessly robust and happy!
Loved this walk down memory lane. I’ve also been collecting since 2018 and completely forgot about the TC tetrasperma debacle. You could do a series with this! Birkin, Thai Con, ROF, and Florida Beauty all had a fall from grace!
This was a super interesting topic! I started collecting houseplants in 2021 and admittedly never owned any of the plants on this list. I do hear about the variegated R. tetrasperma now. Not sure how OG they are but ponytail palms, P. birkin and Syngoniums would go on my list.
My friendship plant is the easiest big mama ever. I moved her into a 2 gallon pot and she loves it! She put out 11 pups this year. She lives in the northeast-facing bay window in my kitchen and I rotate her a quarter turn every time I water to keep her growing upright.
I still have my Rhaphidophora Tetrasperma from years ago but now that ya mention it, I stopped seeing them around hardly at all until a couple weeks ago. I actually stumbled across some at Lowe's from costa farms I believe!
Got my rhap at ikea at the start of my plant journey. Has no idea how popular/hard to find it was at the time. Especially since it was labeled as a Philo. Still have her 🤗
You are on point with all that you mentioned. I was one of those that was desperate to buy a Pilea when they were going for insane prices, but waited until the craze slowed down and I still have it,still love it,it is so easy to look after,it should be called a "friendship plant"😅 as I’ve given so many pups away.still have my original tetrasperma as well, love it like crazy,I don’t really see them around anymore as well, even in Australia. Never got into the moss ball, but my planty son did,but he had to wait for his birthday as it wasn’t cheap, have to ask him if he still has it! We collected some duck weed at a local pond, put it into our pond and before we knew it,it was overtaken by water snails or could even have those pesky things that you showed. I’m always responsible about disposal of any plant matter in the wild. I’ve seen enough devastation to the wildlife on ppl disposing of plants that overtake the natural environment. I think the reason why they stop selling the trendy plants from couple of years ago is there’s always new ones coming out. I don’t follow trends anymore,I can wait a few years for the prices to drop 😅 Good topic Becca. 💚🪴🌿
I have a huge Raph tetrasperma and I love it so much. I have taken soooo many props and shared with so many people. I’d have to check to see if they’re around locally
Oh gosh good video with some interesting messages. I had a Pilea peperomioides and it died and that was so sad it was one that was in a sale rack and I thought that I could get it to survive so I am going to try and get one that isn't on sale just really good looking and healthy, I loved that plant and was so sad when it died because I was trying my best to take good care of it. I have never had a tetrasperma but wouldn't mind getting one. Well I wish you a great rest of your week, sending love and hugs, bye!! 😊🥰😍💕💜💜💜💜💜
Ok so the first two are some of my favourite plants 🤣 the pilea I got a pup of my sisters plant and it’s gone wild and so easy care, I also have a splash varigated one so pretty and just as easy going. My rhaphidaphora tetrasperma is so easy going and grows wild in my house great to prop and give as gifts. Moss ball I don’t get but my local garden centre sells them I am in the uk x
I also have Marimo moss balls. They are boring and more like decor for me. I have them in a small glass globe with pretty colored rocks setting on a shelf and I just find them adorable and apart of my decor. If I ever get rid of them, I will definitely do so responsibly 🥲
I have a R. Tetrasperma and I LOVE IT. It’s a favorite. It’s growing like a weed around one of my windows. It’s too big for a normal pot. It’s literally an amazing plant
Rhaphidophora tetrasperma is one of my favorites. I have one and it is the most tolerant plant ever. I also still have an older peperomioides. I find them tempermental. Some years it does well, other years not so much.
I got my raph tetra earlier this year. I had been wanting one since I started collecting in 2020, but just never saw the right one at the right time. This girl was enormous, super full and lush and already on a pole. I recently chopped her and I have around 30 cuttings currently rooting in a sphag and perlite mixture. I also have a peperomia, but I really love her sister, the raindrop peperomia. Super thick glossy green leaves that come to a point at the bottom.
I still have tetrasperma 🙋🏻♀️Its a favortie in my collection tough as nails and a beauty. Any props I sell locally go quickly. I have seen them in big box stores but don’t come across them in my favortie plants shops. Agree with your choices, thanks for the video 🙌
I still have my raphidaphora tetrasperma, its come back many a time from just nodes in a prop box after events such as sunburn, raccoons toppling it over, and root rot. At present I have a bushy full container, soon to be ready to take props :D
I had several moss balls in my aquarium. It seems to give a Japanese vibe when used as a houseplant. I enjoyed watching my snails, shrimp, and fish interact with them.
They still sell tetraspermas in the Netherlands. Such a unique beautiful plant. Fell in love with it (thanks to mama botanica) at the start of my plant hobby, bought one, but unfortunately killed it. Never bought one again. But I see bug lush plants at the shops with relatively large leaves. Love it!
I had a HUGE tetrasperma that I loved so much. It was growing up moss poles in a cone shape and over 3 feet tall. Then it got thrips and I tried for weeks to treat it in isolation but I couldn’t help it.
I have two R. Tetrasperma that I combined. I never saw them in stores in 2021 when I started plant collecting. I got mine online from BWH and Gabriella’s. They are prolific growers and I have them specifically bc I enjoy the fenestration but not the size of M. deliciosa.
I love tetrasperma a lot, it's my favourite right now. I got my first one in 2020 and grew beautifully, it died when I got sick in 2022 and didn't take care of my plants for a while. I was devastated and I looked for another one for a while and it was hard to find. I ended up getting a one-leaf cutting from someone else and it's now bigger than the first one ever was. It's gorgeous and growing in all directions. I was looking for a second one for a while and just got it this summer, but it was so easy to find in 2020 that it was shocking that it was so hard now.
I have 2 planted aquariums with marimo moss balls. My shrimp and fish love picking food out of them! Other than that I would not have them as a designated "houseplant" in my collection.
I've never heard of the moss ball, not that one anyway. I still have the tetrasperma and the pilea. The pilea and I have a complicated relationship - it has not been easy. Love my tetrasperma. I've had both for 3 years or so, maybe more.
I have a Rhaphidophora tetrasperma, but I did noy buy it, I got it as a gift through my Buy Nothing group. I like it OK. It's on a moss pole and makes a nice filler in a corner where I need something thin and tall. I would probably not mind swapping or gifting it. I also have a Pilea peperomioides, also a gift, and I like it a little better, perhaps because of its unusual look and the generosity with which it makes babies. I much prefer it when it's a young plant. Once it matures and starts getting gangly, I like it less. The Marimo I have never seen being sold anywhere, and after your explanation of the invasive species of mussels, I'm glad it never entered my radar.
I have these, except the moss ball. But like you said, I haven’t seen a R. Tetrasperma in any shops recently. I got mine at a plant swap event. Maybe the cuttings are worth something as rare plants now. 😆
I have a theory about the pilea peperomioides. I think it was never hard to get here in Europe. Maybe they were mostly grown here, and it was hard to ship them to America, and maybe it took a while before propagating the plant over there caught up with the demand on your side of the sea! Just a theory, I don't know the 🌟facts🌟.
I think the rhaphid t. (baby ginny) went out because they are climbers. Climbing plants become very hard to handle very fast if you're not familiar with poles and trellises. I had one for awhile but never could get around to giving her something to climb and she just looked straggly. I hate the idea of moss poles and stuff, although i'll have an odd small trellis for a hoya because they are not a huge deal.
i dont see Rhaphidophora tetrasperma like ever anymore🤔 I still have mine, but yeah I think people are probably over it because there are so many new fancy fenestrated leaves from new monstera cultivars. I think people are just gravitating to the new.. also I don't know how well they size up in leaves? could be another reason?
Yep 10 years back I had 2 moss balls in my Betta tank. Anyone seen a Aglaonema chocolate lately???? I swear they were everytwhere for 2 years and now nowhere to be found.
I’ve had my tetrasperma since 2020! Used to be 6 ft tall until my cat knocked over the pot. I started it over with cuttings this last winter and it’s already 3 ft tall again!
Please do more of these videos. I started outdoor gardening in 2019 and only started with indoor plants last year.
As an invasive species specialist, thank you so much for talking about this issue!
You're so pretty Becca and I love your channel. I'm usually a silent viewer, but I like to comment once and a while. Thank you for working so hard for us.
Thank you so much for saying that! :’)

I only just got a variegated tetrasperma and I love it

I was desperate for a Pilea when I got into plants and it took a while to get one. It is still my top 5 favorite plants.
It's just so cute!
Yes i got a Raphidophora Tetrasperma This summer , and i lovet it 😍
I just ordered 2 Monstera Tetrasperma from a Etsy shop in NY , will be getting them tomorrow, so excited 🎉

I agree, they are a classic,I have Pilea in so many different light situations and they all look great,it’s so easy.🌿🪴
I also have Marimo moss balls. They are boring and more like decor for me. I have them in a small glass globe with pretty colored rocks setting on a shelf and I just find them adorable and apart of my decor. If I ever get rid of them, I will definitely do so responsibly 🥲
I recently bought a R.Tetrasperma from Gabriella Plants. It's pretty.
Oh nice! :)
I have a R. Tetrasperma and I LOVE IT. It’s a favorite. It’s growing like a weed around one of my windows. It’s too big for a normal pot. It’s literally an amazing plant
I have a tetrasperma I bought a year ago at a big box store. It was on clearance and it looks great now❤️

My Rhaphi was one of my first houseplants when I began collecting in Spring of 2021. I have a TON of it in my prop box if you want some!

I agree with you on this one ❤

Tetrasperma is common in big box hd lowes etc and I got one just this summer!
I had a HUGE tetrasperma that I loved so much. It was growing up moss poles in a cone shape and over 3 feet tall. Then it got thrips and I tried for weeks to treat it in isolation but I couldn’t help it.
I love my tretrasperma! I got it a year ago and still see it occasionally for sale around me (Massachusetts.)
Oh good!!
I have two R. Tetrasperma that I combined. I never saw them in stores in 2021 when I started plant collecting. I got mine online from BWH and Gabriella’s. They are prolific growers and I have them specifically bc I enjoy the fenestration but not the size of M. deliciosa.

This is making me feel old haha
I honestly still am in search of a tetrasperma 😂 it’s on my wishlist
Hope you find one,so easy to look after.👍🏼🌿
Raphidopora tetrasperma is easily available in Poland 🙂
I have 2 planted aquariums with marimo moss balls. My shrimp and fish love picking food out of them! Other than that I would not have them as a designated "houseplant" in my collection.

I don't love my pilea but I can't get rid of it because people will buy those props all the time lol.
I remember my Pilea! I sold mine.😢 it was mature and like 2.5 ft tall. She was gorgeous! I wonder if she's still alive. 🤔
Can you tell us about your flowering maple behind you in this video please. Yours is beautiful 🎉
I think it's a Chinese Lanturn plant/Abutilon
I was going to ask the same question…. It looks great and flowering! 😮
It’s my favorite plant rn!!! It’s a Biltmore Ballgown Tree 😍🤌🏼 SUPER easy and loves this corner
I have my tetrasperma raphidfora since 2022.
I have a theory about the pilea peperomioides. I think it was never hard to get here in Europe. I have such a hard time propping rhaphidophora tetrasperma! What is the trick??
I never had luck either!!
I was a little confused at first when you started talking about zebra muscles being inside the moss balls, like what the heck, how?! 🤣
I think the rhaphid t. (baby ginny) went out because they are climbers. Climbing plants become very hard to handle very fast if you're not familiar with poles and trellises. You’re so right!! That can be a big problem. They take up a lot of space
💙💙💙
Pilea peperomiodes still flys off the shelves at my store! It’s much cheaper now
That’s great!! I’m glad it’s cheaper now lol
i literally still have all of these lmao

I have a swap coming up on Sunday and I've already pre-arranged for rhaphidophora tetrasperma 😊 I still love them
Its new name for RaphidophoraTetrasperma is mini-monstera.
That is the common name, not the botanical name. But yes it does also go by that ☺️
Yep 10 years back I had 2 moss balls in my Betta tank. Anyone seen a Aglaonema chocolate lately???? I swear they were everytwhere for 2 years and now nowhere to be found.
I'm looking for a Chocolate Aglaonema and CANNOT FIND ANY, except from Etsy vendors I don't know!
Ive been searching for a chocolate Aglaonema also. Nowhere to be found.
Hi Becca🪴💚🪴
I’ve had my tetrasperma since 2020! Used to be 6 ft tall until my cat knocked over the pot. I started it over with cuttings this last winter and it’s already 3 ft tall again!
My moss balls were destroyed by my cichlids!! Didn't make it.
Omg that’s funny!! Did they rip it apart? I grew up with cichlids, they can be soo aggressive haha
Pilea 🤢
